Neemia 2
1 ED avvenne l'anno ventesimo del re Artaserse, nel mese di Nisan, che, [essendo stato portato] il vino davanti a lui, io presi il vino, e lo porsi al re. Or io non soleva esser mesto nel suo cospetto.
Nowe in the moneth Nisan in the twentieth yere of king Artahshashte, the wine stoode before him, and I tooke vp the wine, and gaue it vnto the King. nowe I was not before time sad in his presence.
2 E il re mi disse: Perchè [è] la tua faccia mesta, non essendo tu infermo? questo non [è] altro se non afflizione di cuore. Ed io ebbi grandissima paura;
And the king said vnto me, Why is thy coutenance sad, seeing thou art not sicke? this is nothing, but sorow of heart. Then was I sore afrayd,
3 e dissi al re: Possa il re vivere in perpetuo; come non sarebbe la mia faccia mesta, [rimanendo] la città, [che è] il luogo delle sepolture de' miei padri, distrutta, e le sue porte consumate dal fuoco?
And I said to the King, God saue the King for euer: why should not my countenance be sad, when the citie and house of the sepulchres of my fathers lieth waste, and the gates thereof are deuoured with fire?
4 E il re mi disse: Che chiedi tu? Allora io pregai l'Iddio del cielo;
And the King said vnto me, For what thing doest thou require? Then I prayed to the God of heauen,
5 e dissi al re: Se così piace al re, e se il tuo servitore ti è in grazia, mandami in Giudea, nella città dove sono le sepolture de' miei padri, acciocchè io la riedifichi.
And sayde vnto the King, If it please the King, and if thy seruant haue found fauour in thy sight, I desire that thou wouldest send me to Iudah vnto the city of the sepulchres of my fathers, that I may buyld it.
6 E il re mi disse, ed anche la [sua] moglie che gli sedeva allato: Quanto tempo metterai alla tua andata, e quando ritornerai? E quando io ebbi detto il tempo al re, egli ebbe a grado di darmi licenza.
And the King sayd vnto me, (the Queene also sitting by him) How long shall thy iourney be? and when wilt thou come againe? So it pleased the King, and he sent me, and I set him a time.
7 Poi dissi al re: Se così piace al re, sienmi date lettere a' governatori di là dal fiume, acciocchè mi lascino passare, finchè io sia giunto in Giudea.
After I saide vnto the King, If it please the King, let them giue mee letters to the captaines beyond the Riuer, that they may conuay me ouer, till I come into Iudah,
8 Ed anche lettere ad Asaf, guardiano de' boschi del re, acciocchè mi dia legname per fabbricar le porte del palazzo della Casa [di Dio], e per le mura della città, e per la casa nella quale io entrerò. E il re mi diede [quelle lettere], secondo che la mano di Dio [era] buona sopra me.
And letters vnto Asaph the keeper of the Kings parke, that hee may giue me timber to buylde the gates of the palace (which apperteined to the house) and for the walles of the citie, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the King gaue me according to the good hand of my God vpon me.
9 Ed io me ne venni a' governatori di qua dal fiume, e diedi loro le lettere del re (or il re avea mandati meco capitani e cavalieri).
Then came I to the captaines beyonde the Riuer, and gaue them the Kings letters. And the King had sent captaines of the armie and horsemen with me.
10 Quando Samballat Horonita; e Tobia, servo Ammonita, ebbero udite [queste cose], ebbero gran dispiacere che fosse venuto alcuno per procacciar del bene a' figliuoli d'Israele.
But Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah a seruant an Ammonite heard it, and it grieued them sore, that there was come a man which sought the wealth of the children of Israel.
11 Poi giunsi in Gerusalemme; ed essendovi stato tre giorni,
So I came to Ierusalem, and was there three dayes.
12 mi levai di notte, con alcuni pochi uomini, e non dichiarai ad alcuno ciò che l'Iddio mio mi metteva in cuore di fare a Gerusalemme; e non [avea] meco alcun'altra bestia, che quella che io cavalcava.
And I rose in the night, I, and a fewe men with me: for I told no man, what God had put in mine heart to do at Ierusalem, and there was not a beast with me, saue the beast whereon I rode.
13 Io adunque uscii di notte dalla porta della valle, e [passai] dirincontro alla fontana del dragone, ed alla porta del letame; ed andava considerando le mura di Gerusalemme, come erano rotte, e come le porte di essa erano consumate dal fuoco.
And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, and came before the dragon well, and to the dung porte, and vewed the walles of Ierusalem, howe they were broken downe, and the portes thereof deuoured with the fire.
14 E [di là] io passai alla porta della fontana, e all'acquidotto del re; e non [vi era] spazio per la [mia] cavalcatura da passar sotto di me.
Then I went foorth vnto the gate of the fountaine, and to the Kings fishpoole, and there was no rowme for the beast that was vnder me to passe.
15 E risalendo per lo torrente, mentre era ancora notte, io andava considerando le mura; poi rientrai per la porta della valle, e [così] me ne rivenni.
Then went I vp in ye night by the brooke, and viewed the wall, and turned backe, and comming backe, I entred by the gate of the valley and returned.
16 Ora i magistrati non sapevano ove io fossi andato, nè ciò che io facessi; ed io fino allora non [l]'avea dichiarato nè ai Giudei, nè a' sacerdoti, nè agli uomini notabili, nè a' magistrati, nè agli altri che aveano la cura dell'opera.
And the rulers knewe not whither I was gone, nor what I did, neither did I as yet tell it vnto the Iewes, nor to the Priestes, nor to the noble men, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest that laboured in the worke.
17 Allora io dissi loro: Voi vedete la miseria nella quale noi [siamo], come Gerusalemme è distrutta, e le sue porte sono bruciate col fuoco: venite, riedifichiamo le mura di Gerusalemme, acciocchè non siamo più in vituperio.
Afterward I said vnto them, Ye see the miserie that we are in, how Ierusalem lyeth waste, and the gates thereof are burnt with fire: come and let vs buylde the wall of Ierusalem, that we be no more a reproche.
18 Ed io dichiarai loro come la mano dell'Iddio mio era buona sopra me; ed anche le parole del re, che egli mi avea dette. Ed essi dissero: Or mettiamoci ad edificare. Così presero animo a far bene.
Then I tolde them of the hande of my God, (which was good ouer me) and also of the Kings wordes that he had spoken vnto me. And they sayd, Let vs rise, and buyld. So they strengthened their hand to good.
19 Ma Samballat Horonita, e Tobia, servo Ammonita, e Ghesem Arabo, avendo udito [questo], ci beffavano, e ci sprezzavano, e dicevano: Che cosa [è] questo che voi fate? vi volete voi ribellar contro al re?
But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the seruant an Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian heard it, they mocked vs and despised vs, and said, What a thing is this that ye doe? Will ye rebell against the King?
20 Ed io risposi, e dissi loro: L'Iddio del cielo [è] quel [che] ci farà prosperare; e noi, suoi servitori, ci metteremo ad edificare; ma voi non avete parte, nè diritto, nè memoria alcuna in Gerusalemme.
Then answered I them, and sayd to them, The God of heauen, he will prosper vs, and we his seruants will rise vp and buylde: but as for you, ye haue no portion nor right, nor memoriall in Ierusalem.
