1 IN que' giorni, essendo la moltitudine grandissima, e non avendo da mangiare, Gesù, chiamati a sè i suoi discepoli, disse loro:
In those dayes, when there was a very great multitude, and had nothing to eate, Iesus called his disciples to him, and said vnto them,
2 Io ho pietà di questa moltitudine; perciocchè già tre giorni continui dimora appresso di me, e non ha da mangiare.
I haue compassion on the multitude, because they haue nowe continued with mee three dayes, and haue nothing to eate.
3 E se io li rimando digiuni a casa, verranno meno tra via, perciocchè alcuni di loro son venuti di lontano.
And if I sende them away fasting to their owne houses, they woulde faint by the way: for some of them came from farre.
4 E i suoi discepoli gli risposero: Onde potrebbe alcuno saziar costoro di pane qui in luogo deserto?
Then his disciples answered him, Whence can a man satisfie these with bread here in the wildernes?
5 Ed egli domandò loro: Quanti pani avete? Ed essi dissero: Sette.
And hee asked them, Howe many loaues haue ye? And they said, Seuen.
6 Ed egli ordinò alla moltitudine che si coricasse in terra; e presi i sette pani, [e] rese grazie, [li] ruppe, e [li] diede a' suoi discepoli, acciocchè [li] ponessero dinanzi alla moltitudine; ed essi glieli posero dinanzi.
Then he commanded the multitude to sit downe on the grounde: and hee tooke the seuen loaues, and gaue thankes, brake them, and gaue to his disciples to set before them, and they did set them before the people.
7 Aveano ancora alcuni pochi pescetti; ed avendo fatta la benedizione, comandò di porre, quelli ancora dinanzi a loro.
They had also a few small fishes: and when he had giuen thankes, he commanded them also to be set before them.
8 Ed essi mangiarono, e furon saziati; e [i discepoli] levarono degli avanzi de' pezzi sette panieri;
So they did eate, and were sufficed, and they tooke vp of the broken meate that was left, seuen baskets full.
9 (or que' che aveano mangiato erano intorno a quattromila), poi li licenziò.
(And they that had eaten, were about foure thousand) so he sent them away.
10 ED in quello stante egli entrò nella navicella co' suoi discepoli, e venne nelle parti di Dalmanuta.
And anon he entred into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
11 E i Farisei uscirono, e si misero a disputar con lui, chiedendogli un segno dal cielo, tentandolo.
And the Pharises came foorth, and began to dispute with him, seeking of him a signe from heauen, and tempting him.
12 Ma egli, dopo aver sospirato nel suo spirito, disse: Perchè questa generazione chiede ella un segno? Io vi dico in verità, che alcun segno non sarà dato a questa generazione.
Then hee sighed deepely in his spirit, and saide, Why doeth this generation seeke a signe? Verely I say vnto you, a signe shall not be giuen vnto this generation.
13 E lasciatili, montò di nuovo nella navicella, e passò all'altra riva.
So he left them, and went into the ship againe, and departed to the other side.
14 Or [i discepoli] aveano dimenticato di prender del pane, e non aveano seco nella navicella se non un pane solo.
And they had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the shippe with them, but one loafe.
15 Ed egli dava lor de' precetti, dicendo: Vedete, guardatevi dal lievito de' Farisei, e dal lievito di Erode.
And he charged them, saying, Take heede, and beware of the leauen of the Pharises, and of the leauen of Herod.
16 Ed essi disputavan fra loro, dicendo: Noi non abbiamo pane.
And they reasoned among themselues, saying, It is, because we haue no bread.
17 E Gesù, conosciuto [ciò], disse loro: Perchè disputate fra voi, perciocchè non avete pane? Siete voi ancora senza conoscimento, e senza intendimento? avete voi ancora il vostro cuore stupido?
And when Iesus knew it, he said vnto them, Why reason you thus, because ye haue no bread? perceiue ye not yet, neither vnderstande? haue ye your hearts yet hardened?
18 Avendo occhi, non vedete voi? e avendo orecchie, non udite voi? e non avete memoria alcuna?
Haue yee eyes, and see not? and haue yee eares, and heare not? and doe ye not remember?
19 Quando io distribuii que' cinque pani fra que' cinquemila [uomini], quanti corbelli pieni di pezzi ne levaste? Essi dissero: Dodici.
When I brake the fiue loaues among fiue thousand, how many baskets full of broken meate tooke ye vp? They said vnto him, Twelue.
20 E quando [distribuii] que' sette [pani] fra que' quattromila [uomini], quanti panieri pieni di pezzi ne levaste?
And when I brake seuen among foure thousande, howe many baskets of the leauings of broken meate tooke ye vp? And they said, Seuen.
21 Ed essi dissero: Sette. Ed egli disse loro: Come [dunque] non avete voi intelletto?
Then he saide vnto them, Howe is it that ye vnderstand not?
22 POI venne in Betsaida, e gli fu menato un cieco, e fu pregato che lo toccasse.
And hee came to Bethsaida, and they brought a blinde man vnto him, and desired him to touch him.
23 Ed egli, preso il cieco per la mano, lo menò fuor del castello; e sputatogli negli occhi, e poste le mani sopra lui, gli domandò se vedeva cosa alcuna.
Then he tooke the blinde by the hand, and ledde him out of the towne, and spat in his eyes, and put his handes vpon him, and asked him, if he sawe ought.
24 Ed esso, levati gli occhi in su, disse: Io veggo camminar gli uomini, che paiono alberi.
And he looked vp, and said, I see men: for I see them walking like trees.
25 Poi di nuovo mise le sue mani sopra gli occhi di esso, e lo fece riguardare in su; ed egli ricoverò [la vista], e vedeva tutti chiaramente.
After that, he put his hands againe vpon his eyes, and made him looke againe. And hee was restored to his sight, and sawe euery man a farre off clearely.
26 E [Gesù] lo rimandò a casa sua, dicendo: Non entrar nel castello, e non dir[lo] ad alcuno nel castello.
And hee sent him home to his house, saying, Neither goe into the towne, nor tell it to any in the towne.
27 POI Gesù, co' suoi discepoli, se ne andò nelle castella di Cesarea di Filippo; e per lo cammino domandò i suoi discepoli, dicendo loro: Chi dicono gli uomini che io sono?
And Iesus went out, and his disciples into the townes of Cesarea Philippi. And by the way hee asked his disciples, saying vnto them, Whome doe men say that I am?
28 Ed essi risposero: [Alcuni, che tu sei] Giovanni Battista; ed altri, Elia; ed altri, un de' profeti.
And they answered, Some say, Iohn Baptist: and some, Elias: and some, one of the Prophets.
29 Ed egli disse loro: E voi, chi dite che io sono? E Pietro, rispondendo, gli disse: Tu sei il Cristo.
And he said vnto them, But whome say ye that I am? Then Peter answered, and saide vnto him, Thou art that Christ.
30 Ed egli divietò loro severamente che a niuno dicessero [ciò] di lui.
And he sharpely charged them, that concerning him they should tell no man.
31 Poi prese ad insegnar loro, che conveniva che il Figliuol dell'uomo sofferisse molte cose, e fosse riprovato dagli anziani, e da' principali sacerdoti, e dagli Scribi; e fosse ucciso, e in capo di tre giorni risuscitasse.
Then hee began to teache them that the Sonne of man must suffer many things, and should be reproued of the Elders, and of the hie Priestes, and of the Scribes, and be slaine, and within three dayes rise againe.
32 E ragionava queste cose apertamente. E Pietro, trattolo da parte, cominciò a riprenderlo.
And he spake that thing boldly. Then Peter tooke him aside, and began to rebuke him.
33 Ma egli, rivoltosi, e riguardando i suoi discepoli, sgridò Pietro, dicendo: Vattene indietro da me, Satana; perciocchè tu non hai il senso alle cose di Dio, ma alle cose degli uomini.
Then he turned backe, and looked on his disciples, and rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behinde me, Satan: for thou vnderstandest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.
34 E CHIAMATA a sè la moltitudine, coi suoi discepoli, disse loro: Chiunque vuol venir dietro a me, rinunzi a sè stesso, e tolga la sua croce, e mi segua.
And hee called the people vnto him with his disciples, and saide vnto them, Whosoeuer will follow me, let him forsake himselfe, and take vp his crosse, and follow me.
35 Perciocchè, chiunque avrà voluto salvar la vita sua la perderà; ma, chi avrà perduta la vita sua, per amor di me, e dell'evangelo, esso la salverà.
For whosoeuer will saue his life, shall lose it: but whosoeuer shall lose his life for my sake and the Gospels, he shall saue it.
36 Perciocchè, che gioverà egli all'uomo se guadagna tutto il mondo, e fa perdita dell'anima sua?
For what shall it profite a man, though he should winne the whole world, if he lose his soule?
37 Ovvero, che darà l'uomo in iscambio dell'anima sua?
Or what exchange shall a man giue for his soule?
38 Perciocchè, se alcuno ha vergogna di me, e delle mie parole, fra questa generazione adultera e peccatrice, il Figliuol dell'uomo altresì avrà vergogna di lui, quando sarà venuto nella gloria del Padre suo, co' santi angeli.
For whosoeuer shall be ashamed of mee, and of my wordes among this adulterous and sinfull generation, of him shall the Sonne of man be ashamed also, when he commeth in the glorie of his Father with the holy Angels.
