1 OR Abimelec, figliuolo di Ierubbaal, andò in Sichem a' fratelli di sua madre, e parlò loro, e a tutta la famiglia della casa del padre di sua madre, dicendo:
Forsothe Abymelech, the sone of Gerobaal, yede in to Sichem to the britheren of his modir; and he spak to hem, and to al the kynrede of `the hows of his modir, and seide,
2 Deh! parlate a tutti i Sichemiti, e dite loro: Qual cosa è migliore per voi, che settant'uomini, [cioè] tutti i figliuoli di Ierubbaal, signoreggino sopra voi, ovvero, che un uomo solo signoreggi sopra voi? ricordatevi ancora che io [sono] vostre ossa, e vostra carne.
Speke ye to alle the men of Sichem, What is betere to you, that seuenti men, alle the sones of Gerobaal, be lordis of you, whether that o man be lord to you? and also biholde, for Y am youre boon, and youre fleisch.
3 E i fratelli di sua madre parlarono di lui a tutti i Sichemiti, e dissero loro tutte quelle parole; e il cuor loro s'inchinò a seguitare Abimelec; perchè dissero: Egli [è] nostro fratello.
And the britheren of his modir spaken of hym alle these wordis to alle the men of Sichem; and bowiden her hertis aftir Abymelech, and seiden, He is oure brother.
4 E gli diedero settanta [sicli] d'argento, [tolti] dal tempio di Baal-berit, co' quali Abimelec soldò degli uomini da nulla, e vagabondi, i quali lo seguitarono.
And thei yauen to hym seuenti weiytis of siluer of the temple of Baal Berith; and he hiride to hym therof men pore and hauynge no certeyn dwellynge, and thei sueden hym.
5 Ed egli venne in casa di suo padre, in Ofra, e uccise in su una stessa pietra i suoi fratelli, figliuoli di Ierubbaal, [ch'erano] settant'uomini; ma Giotam, figliuol minore di Ierubbaal, scampò; perchè s'era nascosto.
And he cam in to `the hows of his fadir in Ephra, and killide hise britheren the sones of Gerobaal, `seuenti men, on o stoon. And Joathan, the leste sone of Gerobaal, lefte, and was hid.
6 Poi tutti i Sichemiti, e tutta la casa di Millo, si adunarono insieme, e andarono, e costituirono re Abimelec, presso alla quercia dove era rizzato [il piliere] in Sichem.
Forsothe alle the men of Sichem, and alle the meynees of the citee of Mello, weren gadirid to gydere, and thei yeden, and maden Abymelech kyng, bysidis the ook that stood in Sichem.
7 E [ciò] essendo rapportato a Giotam, egli andò, e si fermò in su la sommità del monte di Gherizim; e alzò la voce, e gridò, e disse loro: Ascoltatemi, Sichemiti, e [così] vi ascolti Iddio.
And whanne this thing was teld to Joathan, he yede, and stood in the cop of the hil Garisym, and cried with `vois reisid, and seide, Ye men of Sichem, here me, so that God here you.
8 Gli alberi andarono [già] per ungere un re [che regnasse] sopra loro; e dissero all'ulivo: Regna sopra noi.
Trees yeden to anoynte a kyng on hem; and tho seiden to the olyue tre, Comaunde thou to vs.
9 Ma l'ulivo disse loro: Resterei io [di produrre] il mio olio, il quale Iddio [e] gli uomini onorano in me, per andar vagando per gli [altri] alberi?
Whiche answeride, Whether Y may forsake my fatnesse, which bothe Goddis and men vsen, and come, that Y be auaunsid among trees?
10 Poi gli alberi dissero al fico: Vieni tu, regna sopra noi.
And the trees seiden to the fige tree, Come thou, and take the rewme on vs.
11 Ma il fico disse loro: Resterei io [di produrre] la mia dolcezza, e il mio buon frutto, per andar vagando per gli [altri] alberi?
Which answeride to hem, Whether Y may forsake my swetnesse and swetteste fruytis, and go that Y be auaunsid among othere trees?
12 E gli alberi dissero alla vite: Vieni tu, regna sopra noi.
Also `the trees spaken to the vyne, Come thou, and comaunde to vs.
13 Ma la vite disse loro: Resterei io [di produrre] il mio mosto, che rallegra Iddio e gli uomini, per andar vagando per gli [altri] alberi?
Which answeride, Whether Y may forsake my wyn, that gladith God and men, and be auaunsid among othere trees?
14 Allora tutti gli alberi dissero al pruno: Vieni tu, regna sopra noi.
And alle trees seiden to the ramne, ether theue thorn, Come thou, and be lord on vs.
15 E il pruno disse agli alberi: Se ciò che voi fate, ungendomi per re sopra voi, è con verità, venite, riparatevi sotto alla mia ombra; se no, esca il fuoco dal pruno, e consumi i cedri del Libano.
Whiche answeride to hem, If ye maken me verili kyng to you, come ye, and reste vndur my schadewe; sotheli, if ye nylen, fier go out of the ramne, and deuoure the cedris of the Liban.
16 Ora altresì, se voi siete proceduti con verità e con integrità, costituendo Abimelec re; e se avete operato bene inverso Ierubbaal, e inverso la sua casa; e se voi gli avete renduta la retribuzione delle sue opere
Now therfor if riytfuli and without synne `ye han maad Abymelech kyng on you, and ye han do wel with Jerobaal, and with his hows, and ye han yolde while to the benefices of hym,
17 (conciossiachè mio padre abbia guerreggiato per voi, e abbia cacciato dietro alle spalle ogni riguardo alla sua vita, e vi abbia riscossi dalla mano de' Madianiti.
that fauyt for you, and yaf his lijf to perelis, that he schulde delyuere you fro the hond of Madian;
18 Ma oggi voi vi siete sollevati contro alla casa di mio padre, e avete uccisi sopra una medesima pietra i suoi figliuoli, [in numero di] settant'uomini, e avete costituito re sopra i Sichemiti Abimelec, figliuolo della sua serva, perciocchè egli è vostro fratello);
and ye han rise now ayens the hows of my fadir, and han slayn hyse sones, seuenti men, on o stoon, and `han maad Abymelech, sone of his handmayde, kyng on the dwelleris of Sichem, for he is youre brother;
19 se, [dico], siete oggi proceduti con verità e con integrità, verso Ierubbaal e verso la sua casa, godete d'Abimelec, e Abimelec goda di voi;
therfor if ye han do riytfuli, and with out synne with Gerobaal and his hows, to dai be ye glad in Abymelech, and be he glad in you; but if ye han do weiwardli,
20 se no, esca il fuoco d'Abimelec, e consumi i Sichemiti e la casa di Millo; esca parimente il fuoco de' Sichemiti e della casa di Millo, e consumi Abimelec.
fier go out `of hym, and waste the dwelleris of Sichem, and the citee of Mello; and fier go out of the men of Sichem, and of the citee of Mello, and deuoure Abymelech.
21 Poi Giotam scampò e se ne fuggì d'innanzi ad Abimelec suo fratello, e andò in Beer, e quivi dimorò.
And whanne he hadde seide these thingis, he fledde, and yede in to Berara, and dwellide there, for drede of Abymelech, his brother.
22 E Abimelec signoreggiò sopra Israele tre anni.
And Abymelech regnede on Israel thre yeer.
23 E Iddio mandò uno spirito maligno fra Abimelec e i Sichemiti; e i Sichemiti ruppero la fede ad Abimelec;
And the Lord sente the worste spirit bitwixe Abymelech and the dwelleris of Sichem, whiche bigynnen to holde hym abomynable,
24 acciocchè la violenza fatta a' settanta figliuoli di Ierubbaal, e il sangue loro, venisse ad esser messo addosso ad Abimelec lor fratello, il quale li avea uccisi; e addosso a' Sichemiti, i quali aveano tenuta mano con lui a uccidere i suoi fratelli.
and to arette the felony of sleyng of seuenti sones of Gerobaal, and the schedyng out of her blood, in to Abymelech her brother, and to othere princes of Sichem, that hadden helpid hym.
25 I Sichemiti adunque gli posero agguati in su le sommità de' monti, i quali rubavano in su la strada chiunque passava appresso di loro. [E ciò] fu rapportato ad Abimelec.
And thei settiden buyschementis ayens hym in the hiynesse of hillis; and the while thei abideden `the comyng of hym, thei hauntiden theftis, and token preies of men passynge forth; and it was teld to Abymelech.
26 Poi Gaal, figliuolo di Ebed, e i suoi fratelli, vennero, e passarono in Sichem; e i Sichemiti presero confidenza in lui.
Forsothe Gaal, `the sone of Obed, cam with his britheren, and passide in to Siccima; at whos entryng the dwelleris of Sichem weren reisid, and yeden out `in to feeldis,
27 E, usciti alla campagna, vendemmiarono le lor vigne, e calcarono [le uve], e cantarono delle canzoni. Poi entrarono nel tempio dell'iddio loro, e mangiarono, e bevvero, e maledissero Abimelec.
and wastiden vyneris, and `to-traden grapis; and with cumpeneys of syngeris maad thei entriden in to `the temple of her God, and among metis and drynkis thei cursiden Abymalech, while Gaal,
28 E Gaal, figliuolo di Ebed, disse: Chi [è] Abimelec, e quale [è] Sichem, che noi serviamo ad Abimelec? non [è egli] figliuolo di Ierubbaal? e Zebul non [è] egli suo commissario? Servite a' discendenti di Hemor, padre di Sichem. E perchè serviremo noi a costui?
the sone of Obed, criede, Who is this Abymelech? And what is Sichem, that we serue hym? Whether he is not the sone of Jerobaal, and made Zebul his seruaunt prince on the men of Emor, fadir of Sichem? Whi therfor schulen we serue hym?
29 Oh! fossemi pur data questa gente sotto la mia condotta, io caccerei Abimelec. Poi disse ad Abimelec: Accresci pure il tuo esercito, e vien fuori.
`Y wolde, that sum man yaf this puple vndur myn hond, that Y schulde take awei Abimelech fro the myddis. And it was seid to Abymelech, Gadere thou the multitude of oost, and come thou.
30 E Zebul, capitano della città, avendo udite le parole di Gaal, figliuolo di Ebed, si accese nell'ira.
For whanne the wordis of Gaal, sone of Obed, weren herd, Zebul, the prynce of the citee, was ful wrooth;
31 E cautamente mandò messi ad Abimelec, a dirgli: Ecco, Gaal, figliuolo di Ebed, e i suoi fratelli, son venuti in Sichem; ed ecco, stringono la città contro a te.
and he sente priueli messangeris to Abymelech, and seide, Lo! Gaal, sone of Obed, cam in to Siccymam, with hise britheren, and he excitith the citee to fiyte ayens thee;
32 Ora, dunque, levati di notte, con la gente ch'[è] teco, e poni agguati nella campagna;
therfor rise thou bi niyt with the puple, which is with thee, and be thou hid in the feeld;
33 e domattina a buon'ora, in sul levar del sole, levati, e fa' una correria sopra la città; ed ecco, egli e la gente ch'[è] con lui, uscirà incontro a te, e tu gli farai secondo che ti occorrerà.
and first in the morewtid, whanne the sunne rysith, falle on the citee; forsothe whanne he goth out with his puple ayens thee, do thou to hym that that thou maist.
34 Abimelec adunque si levò di notte, con tutta la gente ch'[era] con lui, e stettero agli agguati contro a Sichem, in quattro schiere.
Therfor Abymelech roos with al his oost bi nyyt, and settide buyschementis bisidis Siccimam, in foure placis.
35 Or Gaal, figliuolo di Ebed, uscì fuori, e si fermò in su l'entrata della porta della città; e Abimelec si levò dagli agguati, con la gente ch'[era] con lui.
And Gaal, the sone of Obed, yede out, and stood in the entryng of `the yate of the citee. Forsothe Abymelech and al the oost with hym roos fro the place of buyschementis.
36 E Gaal, veduta quella gente, disse a Zebul: Ecco della gente, che scende dalle sommità de' monti. E Zebul gli disse: Tu vedi l'ombra de' monti, e ti pare che sieno uomini.
And whanne Gaal hadde seyn the puple, he seide to Zebul, Lo! a multitude cometh doun fro the hillis. To whom he answeride, Thou seest the schadewis of hillis as the `heedis of men, and thou art disseyued bi this errour.
37 E Gaal parlò di nuovo, e disse: Ecco della gente che scende dal bellico del paese, ed una schiera che viene dalla via del querceto degl'indovini.
And eft Gaal seide, Lo! a puple cometh doun fro the myddis of erthe, `that is, fro the hiynesse of hillis, and o cumpeny cometh bi the weie that biholdith the ook.
38 E Zebul gli disse: Dove [è] ora la tua bocca, con la quale tu dicevi: Chi [è] Abimelec, che noi gli serviamo? Non [è] egli questo popolo quello che tu sprezzavi? Deh! esci ora fuori, e combatti con lui.
To whom Zebul seide, Where is now thi mouth, bi which thou spekist, Who is Abymelech, that we serue hym? Whether this is not the puple, whom thou dispisidist? Go thou out, and fiyte ayens hym.
39 Allora Gaal uscì fuori davanti a' Sichemiti, e combattè con Abimelec.
Therfor Gaal yede, while the puple of Sichen abood; and he fauyt ayens Abymelech.
40 Ma Abimelec gli diè la caccia, ed egli fuggì d'innanzi a lui, e molti caddero uccisi infino all'entrata della porta.
Which pursuede Gaal fleynge, and constreynede to go in to the citee; and ful many of his part felde doun `til to the yate of the citee.
41 E Abimelec si fermò in Aruma; e Zebul cacciò di Sichem Gaal, e i suoi fratelli; talchè non poterono più stare in Sichem.
And Abymelech sat in Ranna; sotheli Zebul puttide Gaal and hise felowis out of the citee, and suffride not to dwelle ther ynne.
42 E il giorno seguente, il popolo [di Sichem] uscì fuori a' campi; e ciò fu rapportato ad Abimelec.
Therfor in the dai suynge the puple yede out in to the feeld; and whanne this thing was teld to Abymelech,
43 Ed egli prese la [sua] gente, e la spartì in tre schiere, e si pose in agguato su per li campi; e, veggendo che il popolo usciva della città, si levò contro ad esso, e lo percosse.
he took his oost, and departide `in to thre cumpenyes, and settide buyschementis in the feeldis; and he siy that the puple yede out of the citee, and he roos,
44 Ed Abimelec, con la schiera ch'egli avea seco, corse verso la città, e si fermò all'entrata della porta della città; e le [altre] due schiere corsero sopra tutti quelli ch'[erano] per li campi, e li percossero.
and felde on hem with his cumpeny, and enpugnyde and bisegide the citee. Sothely twei cumpenyes yeden aboute opynli bi the feeld, and pursueden aduersaries.
45 Ed Abimelec combattè contro alla città tutto quel giorno, e la prese, e uccise il popolo ch'[era] in essa; poi spianò la città, e vi seminò del sale.
Certis Abymelech fauyt ayens the citee in al that dai, which he took, whanne the dwelleris weren slayn, and that citee was destried, so that he spreynte abrood salt ther ynne.
46 E tutti gli abitanti della torre di Sichem, udito [ciò], si ridussero nella fortezza del tempio d'El-berit.
And whanne thei, that dwelliden in the tour of Sichem, hadde herd this, thei entriden in to the temple of her god Berith, where thei hadden maad boond of pees with hym; and of that the place took name, which place was ful strong.
47 E fu rapportato ad Abimelec, che tutti gli abitanti della torre di Sichem si erano adunati [là].
And Abymelech herde the men of the tour of Sichem gaderid to gidere,
48 Laonde Abimelec salì in sul monte di Salmon, con tutta la gente ch'[era] con lui; e prese delle scuri in mano, e tagliò un ramo d'albero; e, toltolo, sel recò in ispalla; poi disse alla gente ch' [era] con lui: Quello che mi avete veduto fare, fatelo prestamente, come [ho fatto] io.
and he stiede in to the hil Selmon with al his puple; and with an axe takun he kittide doun a boow of a tre, and he bar it, put on the schuldur, and seide to felowis, Do ye this thing, which ye seen me do.
49 Tutta la gente adunque tagliò anch'essa de' rami, ciascuno il suo; poi, andati dietro ad Abimelec, posero [quelli] intorno alla fortezza, e arsero la fortezza sopra coloro [che v'erano dentro]; e tutti gli abitanti morirono anch'essi, [in numero] d'intorno a mille persone, tra uomini e donne.
Therfor with strijf thei kittiden doun bowis of the trees, and sueden the duyk; whiche cumpassiden and brenten `the tour; and so it was doon, that with smooke and fier a thousynde of men weren slayn, men togidere and wymmen, of the dwelleris of the tour of Sichem.
50 Poi Abimelec andò a Tebes, e vi pose campo, e la prese.
Forsothe Abymelech wente forth fro thennus, and cam to the citee of Thebes, which he cumpasside, and bisegide with an oost.
51 Ora, nel mezzo della città v'era una torre forte, nella quale tutti gli uomini e le donne, e tutti gli abitanti della città, si rifuggirono; e, serratisi dentro, salirono in sul tetto della torre.
Forsothe the tour was hiy in the myddis of the citee, to which men togidere and wymmen fledden, and alle the princes of the citee, while the yate was closid stronglieste; and thei stoden on the roof of the tour bi toretis.
52 Ed Abimelec, venuto fino alla torre, la combattè, e si accostò infino alla porta della torre, per bruciarla col fuoco.
And Abymelech cam bisidis the tour, and fauyt strongli, and he neiyede to the dore, and enforside to putte fier vndur; and lo!
53 Ma una donna gittò giù un pezzo di macina in sul capo di Abimelec, e gli spezzò il teschio.
o womman castide fro aboue a gobet of a mylnestoon, and hurtlide to `the heed of Abymelech, and brak his brayn.
54 Laonde egli prestamente chiamò il fante che portava le sue armi, e gli disse: Tira fuori la tua spada, e uccidimi, che talora non si dica di me: Una donna l'ha ammazzato. Il suo fante adunque lo trafisse, ed egli morì.
And he clepide soone his squyer, and seide to hym, Drawe out thi swerd, and sle me, lest perauenture it be seid, that Y am slan of a womman. Which performede `the comaundementis, and `killide Abymelech;
55 E quando gl'Israeliti ebber veduto che Abimelec era morto, se ne andarono ciascuno al suo luogo.
and whanne he was deed, alle men of Israel that weren with hym turneden ayen to her seetis.
56 Così Iddio fece la retribuzione ad Abimelec, del male ch'egli avea commesso contro a suo padre, uccidendo i suoi settanta fratelli.
And God yeldide to Abymelech the yuel that he dide ayens his fadir, for he killide hise seuenti britheren.
57 Iddio fece ancora ritornare in sul capo degli uomini di Sichem tutto il male che aveano commesso; e avvenne loro la maledizione di Giotam, figliuolo di Ierubbaal.
Also that thing was yoldun to men of Sichem, which thei wrouyten, and the curs of Joathan, sone of Jerobaal, cam on hem.
