Giosué 9

1 ORA, come tutti i re ch'[erano] di qua dal Giordano, nel monte, e nella pianura, e lungo tutto il lito del mar grande, fin dirimpetto al Libano, l'Hitteo, l'Amorreo, il Cananeo, il Ferizzeo, l'Hivveo, e il Gebuseo, ebbero intese queste cose,

And it was when heard all the kings who [were] on [the] other side of the Jordan in the hill country and in the Shephelah and in all [the] coast of the sea great to [the] front of Lebanon the Hittite[s] and the Amorite[s] the Canaanite[s] the Perizzite[s] the Hivite[s] and the Jebusite[s].

2 si adunarono tutti insieme per guerreggiar con Giosuè, e con Israele, di pari consentimento.

And they gathered together all together to wage war with Joshua and with Israel mouth one.

3 Ma gli abitanti di Gabaon, avendo udito ciò che Giosuè avea fatto a Gerico e ad Ai,

And [the] inhabitants of Gibeon they heard [that] which he had done Joshua to Jericho and to Ai.

4 si adoperarono anch'essi, [ma] con inganno; perciocchè andarono, e fecero provvisione di vittuaglia, e presero de' sacchi logori, sopra i loro asini, e degli otri di vino logori, [ch'erano stati] schiantati e [poi] ricuciti;

And they acted also they with cunning and they went and they acted as ambassadors and they took sacks worn out for donkeys their and skin-bottles of wine worn out and split and tied up.

5 e de' calzamenti logori, e risarciti ne' piedi; e dei vestimenti logori indosso; e tutto il pane della lor provvisione era secco e mucido.

And sandals worn out and patched [were] on feet their and garments worn out [were] on them and all [the] bread of provision[s] their it was dried up it was crumbs.

6 E andarono a Giosuè, nel campo, in Ghilgal, e dissero a lui e a' principali d'Israele: Noi siamo venuti di lontano paese; ora dunque fate patto con noi.

And they went to Joshua to the camp Gilgal and they said to him and to [the] man of Israel from a land distant we have come and therefore make to us a covenant.

7 E i principali d'Israele dissero a quegli Hivvei: Forse voi abitate nel mezzo di noi; come dunque faremo noi lega con voi?

(And he said *QK) [the] man of Israel to the Hivite[s] perhaps in midst my you [are] dwelling and how? (will I make *Qk) to you a covenant.

8 Ma essi dissero a Giosuè: Noi [siamo] tuoi servitori. E Giosuè disse loro: Chi [siete] voi, e donde venite?

And they said to Joshua [are] servants your we and he said to them Joshua who? [are] you and from where? do you come.

9 Ed essi gli dissero: I tuoi servitori son venuti di molto lontan paese, alla fama del Signore Iddio tuo; perciocchè noi abbiamo udita la sua fama, e tutto ciò ch'egli ha fatto in Egitto,

And they said to him from a land distant very they have come servants your to [the] name of Yahweh God your for we have heard [the] report of him and all that he did in Egypt.

10 e tutto ciò ch'egli ha fatto a' due re degli Amorrei, ch' [erano] di là dal Giordano; a Sihon, re di Hesbon, e ad Og, re di Basan, che [dimorava] in Astarot.

And - all that he did to [the] two [the] kings of the Amorite[s] who [were] on [the] other side of the Jordan to Sihon [the] king of Heshbon and to Og [the] king of Bashan who [was] in Ashtaroth.

11 E i nostri Anziani, e tutti gli abitanti del nostro paese, ci hanno detto: Prendete in mano della provvisione per lo viaggio, e andate incontro a coloro, e dite loro: Noi [siamo] vostri servitori; fate dunque patto con noi.

And they said to us elders our and all [the] inhabitants of land our saying take in hand your provision[s] for the journey and go to meet them and you will say to them [are] servants your we and therefore make to us a covenant.

12 Quest'[è] il nostro pane; noi lo prendemmo caldo dalle case nostre per nostra provvisione, nel giorno che partimmo per venire a voi; ma ora, ecco egli è secco, ed è diventato mucido;

This - bread our warm we took as our provisions it from homes our on [the] day came out we to come to you and now here! it has dried up and it has been crumbs.

13 e questi [sono] gli otri del vino, i quali noi empiemmo tutti nuovi; ed ecco, sono schiantati; e questi nostri vestimenti, e i nostri calzamenti, si son logorati per lo molto lungo viaggio.

And these [the] skin-bottles of wine which we filled new and here! they have split and these garments our and sandals our they have worn out from [the] greatness of the journey very.

14 E que' personaggi presero della lor provvisione, e non domandarono la bocca del Signore.

And they took the men some of provision[s] their and [the] mouth of Yahweh not they asked.

15 E Giosuè fece pace con loro, e patteggiò con loro, che li lascerebbe vivere; e i principali della raunanza [lo] giurarono loro.

And he made to them Joshua peace and he made to them a covenant to let live them and they swore an oath to them [the] leaders of the congregation.

16 Ma tre giorni appresso ch'ebbero fatto patto con loro, intesero ch'[erano] lor vicini, e che abitavano nel mezzo di loro.

And it was from [the] end of three days after that they had made to them a covenant and they heard that [were] near they to him and in midst his they [were] dwelling.

17 Perciocchè al terzo giorno, i figliuoli d'Israele si mossero, e vennero alle lor città, ch'[erano] Gabaon, e Chefira, e Beerot, e Chiriat-iearim.

And they set out [the] people of Israel and they came to cities their on the day third and cities their [were] Gibeon and Kephirah and Beeroth and Kiriath Jearim.

18 E i figliuoli d'Israele non li percossero; perciocchè i principali della raunanza aveano giurato loro per lo Signore Iddio d'Israele. E tutta la raunanza mormorò contro a' principali

And not they attacked them [the] people of Israel for they had sworn an oath to them [the] leaders of the congregation by Yahweh [the] God of Israel and they grumbled all the congregation on the leaders.

19 E tutti i principali dissero a tutta la raunanza: Noi abbiamo loro giurato per lo Signore Iddio d'Israele; perciò ora non li possiam toccare.

And they said all the leaders to all the congregation we we have sworn an oath to them by Yahweh [the] God of Israel and therefore not we are able to touch them.

20 Facciamo loro questo, e lasciamoli vivere; acciocchè non vi sia indegnazione contro a noi, per cagione del giuramento che abbiamo loro fatto.

This we will do to them and we will let live them and not it will be towards us wrath on the oath which we swore to them.

21 Così i principali dissero loro, che si lascerebbero vivere; ma furono ordinati tagliatori di legne, e attignitori d'acqua, per tutta la raunanza; come i principali dissero loro.

And they said to them the leaders let them live and they were cutters of wood and drawers of water for all the congregation just as they had spoken to them the leaders.

22 Giosuè adunque li chiamò, e parlò loro, dicendo: Perchè ci avete voi ingannati, dicendo: Noi [siamo d'un paese] molto lontan da voi; e pur voi abitate nel mezzo di noi?

And he summoned them Joshua and he spoke to them saying why? did you deceive us saying [are] distant we from you very and you in midst our [are] dwelling.

23 Ora dunque voi [siete] maledetti, e giammai non sarà che non vi sieno d'infra voi de' servi, e de' tagliatori di legne, e degli attignitori di acqua, per la Casa dell'Iddio mio.

And therefore [are] cursed you and not he will be cut off from you a slave and cutters of wood and drawers of water for [the] house of God my.

24 Ed essi risposero a Giosuè, e dissero: [Noi l'abbiam fatto], perciocchè era stato rapportato per cosa certa a' tuoi servitori ciò che il Signore Iddio tuo avea comandato a Mosè, suo servitore, di darvi tutto il paese, e di distruggere d'innanzi a voi tutti gli abitanti del paese; laonde noi, temendo grandemente di voi per le nostre persone, abbiamo fatto questa cosa;

And they answered Joshua and they said that certainly it was told to servants your this: he had commanded Yahweh God your Moses servant his to give to you all the land and to destroy all [the] inhabitants of the land from before you and we were afraid very for lives our because of you and we did the thing this.

25 e ora eccoci nelle tue mani; fa' inverso noi come ti parrà buono e diritto di farci.

And therefore here we [are] in hand your according to the good and according to the right in eyes your to do to us do.

26 Egli adunque fece loro così; e li scampò dalle mani de' figliuoli d'Israele, sì che non li ammazzarono.

And he did to them thus and he delivered them from [the] hand of [the] people of Israel and not they killed them.

27 E in quel giorno Giosuè li ordinò tagliatori di legne, e attignitori d'acqua, per la raunanza, e per l'Altare del Signore, in qualunque luogo egli eleggerebbe; [il che dura] fino al dì d'oggi.

And he made them Joshua on the day that cutters of wood and drawers of water for the congregation and for [the] altar of Yahweh until the day this to the place which he will choose.
