Giona 3
1 E LA parola del Signore fu [indirizzata] a Giona, la seconda volta, dicendo:
And there is a word of YHWH to Jonah a second time, saying,
2 Levati, va' in Ninive, la gran città, e predicale la predicazione che io ti dichiaro.
“Rise, go to Nineveh, the great city, and proclaim to it the proclamation that I am speaking to you”;
3 E Giona si levò, e se ne andò in Ninive, secondo la parola del Signore. Or Ninive [era] una grandissima città, di tre giornate di cammino.
and Jonah rises, and he goes to Nineveh, according to the word of YHWH. And Nineveh has been a great city before God, a journey of three days.
4 E Giona cominciò ad andar per la città il cammino d'una giornata, e predicò, e disse: Infra quaranta giorni Ninive sarà sovvertita.
And Jonah begins to go into the city—a journey of one day—and proclaims and says, “Yet forty days and Nineveh is overturned!”
5 E i Niniviti credettero a Dio, e bandirono il digiuno, e si vestirono di sacchi, dal maggiore fino al minor di loro.
And the men of Nineveh believe in God, and proclaim a fast, and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least,
6 Anzi, essendo quella parola pervenuta al re di Ninive, egli si levò su dal suo trono, e si tolse d'addosso il suo ammanto, e si coperse di un sacco, e si pose a sedere in su la cenere.
seeing the word comes to the king of Nineveh, and he rises from his throne, and removes his honorable robe from off him, and spreads out sackcloth, and sits on the ashes,
7 E fece andare una grida, e dire in Ninive: Per decreto del re, e de' suoi grandi, vi si fa assapere, che nè uomo, nè bestia, nè minuto, nè grosso bestiame, non assaggi nulla, [e] non pasturi, e non beva acqua;
and he cries and says in Nineveh by a decree of the king and his great ones, saying, “Man and beast, herd and flock—do not let them taste anything, do not let them feed, do not even let them drink water;
8 e che si coprano di sacchi gli uomini, e le bestie; e che si gridi di forza a Dio; e che ciascuno si converta dalla sua via malvagia, e dalla violenza ch'è nelle sue mani.
and let man and beast cover themselves [with] sackcloth, and let them call to God mightily, and let them each turn back from his evil way, and from the violence that [is] in their hands.
9 Chi sa se Iddio si rivolgerà, e si pentirà, e si storrà dall'ardor della sua ira; sì che noi non periamo?
Who knows? He turns back, and God has relented, and has turned back from the heat of His anger, and we do not perish.”
10 E Iddio vide le loro opere; come si erano convertiti dalla lor via malvagia; ed egli si pentì del male, ch'egli avea detto di far loro, e non [lo] fece.
And God sees their works, that they have turned back from their evil way, and God relents of the evil that He spoke of doing to them, and He has not done [it].
