Giovanni 18
1 GESÙ, avendo dette queste cose, uscì co' suoi discepoli, e [andò] di là dal torrente di Chedron, ove era un orto, nel quale entrò egli ed i suoi discepoli.
When Iesus had spoken these things, hee went foorth with his disciples ouer the brooke Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entred, and his disciples.
2 Or Giuda, che lo tradiva, sapeva anch'egli il luogo; perciocchè Gesù s'era molte volte accolto là co' suoi discepoli.
And Iudas which betraied him, knewe also the place: for Iesus oft times resorted thither with his disciples.
3 Giuda adunque, presa la schiera, e de' sergenti, da' principali sacerdoti, e da' Farisei, venne là con lanterne, e torce, ed armi.
Iudas then, after hee had receiued a band of men and officers of the high Priests, and of the Pharises, came thither with lanternes and torches, and weapons.
4 Laonde Gesù, sapendo tutte le cose che gli avverrebbero, uscì, e disse loro: Chi cercate?
Then Iesus, knowing all things that shoulde come vnto him, went foorth and said vnto them, Whom seeke yee?
5 Essi gli risposero: Gesù il Nazareo. Gesù disse loro: Io son [desso]. Or Giuda che lo tradiva era anch'egli presente con loro.
They answered him, Iesus of Nazareth. Iesus sayde vnto them, I am hee. Nowe Iudas also which betraied him, stoode with them.
6 Come adunque egli ebbe detto loro: Io son [desso], andarono a ritroso, e caddero in terra.
Assoone then as hee had saide vnto them, I am hee, they went away backewardes, and fell to the grounde.
7 Egli adunque di nuovo domandò loro: Chi cercate? Essi dissero: Gesù il Nazareo.
Then he asked them againe, Whome seeke yee? And they sayd, Iesus of Nazareth.
8 Gesù rispose: Io vi ho detto ch'io son [desso]; se dunque cercate me, lasciate andar costoro.
Iesus answered, I said vnto you, that I am he: therefore if ye seeke me, let these go their way.
9 Acciocchè si adempiesse ciò ch'egli avea detto: Io non ho perduto alcuno di coloro che tu mi hai dati.
This was that the worde might be fulfilled which hee spake, Of them which thou gauest me, haue I lost none.
10 E Simon Pietro, avendo una spada, la trasse, e percosse il servitore del sommo sacerdote, e gli ricise l'orecchio destro; or quel servitore avea nome Malco.
Then Simon Peter hauing a sword, drewe it, and smote the hie Priests seruant, and cut off his right eare. Nowe the seruants name was Malchus.
11 E Gesù disse a Pietro: Riponi la tua spada nella guaina; non berrei io il calice il quale il Padre mi ha dato?
Then sayde Iesus vnto Peter, Put vp thy sworde into the sheath: shall I not drinke of the cuppe which my Father hath giuen me?
12 LA schiera adunque, e il capitano, e i sergenti de' Giudei, presero Gesù, e lo legarono.
Then the bande and the captaine, and the officers of the Iewes tooke Iesus, and bound him,
13 E prima lo menarono ad Anna; perciocchè egli era suocero di Caiafa, il quale era sommo sacerdote di quell'anno; ed Anna lo rimandò legato a Caiafa, sommo sacerdote.
And led him away to Annas first (for he was father in lawe to Caiaphas, which was the hie Priest that same yeere)
14 Or Caiafa era quel che avea consigliato a' Giudei, ch'egli era utile che un uomo morisse per lo popolo.
And Caiaphas was he, that gaue counsel to the Iewes, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
15 Or Simon Pietro ed un altro discepolo seguitavano Gesù; e quel discepolo era noto al sommo sacerdote, laonde egli entrò con Gesù nella corte del sommo sacerdote.
Nowe Simon Peter folowed Iesus, and another disciple, and that disciple was knowen of the hie Priest: therefore he went in with Iesus into the hall of the hie Priest:
16 Ma Pietro stava di fuori alla porta. Quell'altro discepolo adunque, ch'era noto al sommo sacerdote, uscì, e fece motto alla portinaia, e fece entrar Pietro.
But Peter stood at the doore without. Then went out the other disciple which was knowen vnto the hie Priest, and spake to her that kept the doore, and brought in Peter.
17 E la fante portinaia disse a Pietro: Non sei ancor tu de' discepoli di quest'uomo? Egli disse: Non sono.
Then saide the maide that kept the doore, vnto Peter, Art not thou also one of this mans disciples? He sayd, I am not.
18 Ora i servitori, e i sergenti, stavano quivi ritti, avendo accesi de' carboni, e si scaldavano, perciocchè faceva freddo; e Pietro stava in piè con loro, e si scaldava.
And the seruants and officers stoode there, which had made a fire of coles: for it was colde, and they warmed themselues. And Peter also stood among them, and warmed himselfe.
19 Or il sommo sacerdote domandò Gesù intorno a' suoi discepoli, ed alla sua dottrina.
(The hie Priest then asked Iesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
20 Gesù gli rispose: Io ho apertamente parlato al mondo; io ho sempre insegnato nella sinagoga e nel tempio, ove i Giudei si raunano d'ogni luogo, e non ho detto niente in occulto.
Iesus answered him, I spake openly to the world: I euer taught in the Synagogue and in the Temple, whither the Iewes resort continually, and in secret haue I sayde nothing.
21 Perchè mi domandi tu? domanda coloro che hanno udito ciò ch'io ho lor detto; ecco, essi sanno le cose ch'io ho dette.
Why askest thou mee? aske them which heard mee what I sayde vnto them: beholde, they knowe what I sayd.
22 Ora quando Gesù ebbe dette queste cose, un de' sergenti, ch'era quivi presente, gli diede una bacchettata, dicendo: Così rispondi tu al sommo sacerdote?
When he had spoken these thinges, one of the officers which stoode by, smote Iesus with his rod, saying, Answerest thou the hie Priest so?
23 Gesù gli rispose: Se io ho mal parlato, testimonia del male; ma, se [ho parlato] bene, perchè mi percuoti?
Iesus answered him, If I haue euill spoken, beare witnes of the euil: but if I haue well spoken, why smitest thou me?
24 Anna adunque l'avea rimandato legato a Caiafa, sommo sacerdote.
Nowe Annas had sent him bound vnto Caiaphas the hie Priest)
25 E Simon Pietro era quivi presente, e si scaldava. Laonde gli dissero: Non sei ancor tu de' suoi discepoli? Ed egli lo negò, e disse: Non sono.
And Simon Peter stoode and warmed himselfe, and they said vnto him, Art not thou also of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
26 [Ed] uno dei servitori del sommo sacerdote, parente di colui a cui Pietro avea tagliato l'orecchio, disse: Non ti vidi io nell'orto con lui?
One of the seruaunts of the hie Priest, his cousin whose eare Peter smote off, saide, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
27 E Pietro da capo lo negò, e subito il gallo cantò.
Peter then denied againe, and immediatly the cocke crewe.
28 POI menarono Gesù da Caiafa nel palazzo; or era mattina, ed essi non entrarono nel palazzo, per non contaminarsi, ma per poter mangiar la pasqua.
Then led they Iesus from Caiaphas into the common hall. Nowe it was morning, and they themselues went not into the common hall, least they should be defiled, but that they might eate the Passeouer.
29 Pilato adunque uscì a loro, e disse: Quale accusa portate voi contro a quest'uomo?
Pilate then went out vnto them, and said, What accusation bring yee against this man?
30 Essi risposero, e gli dissero: Se costui non fosse malfattore, noi non te l'avremmo dato nelle mani.
They answered, and saide vnto him, If hee were not an euill doer, we woulde not haue deliuered him vnto thee.
31 Laonde Pilato disse loro: Pigliatelo voi, e giudicatelo secondo la vostra legge. Ma i Giudei gli dissero: A noi non è lecito di far morire alcuno.
Then sayde Pilate vnto them, Take yee him, and iudge him after your owne Lawe. Then the Iewes sayde vnto him, It is not lawfull for vs to put any man to death.
32 Acciocchè si adempiesse quello che Gesù avea detto, significando di qual morte morrebbe.
It was that the worde of Iesus might be fulfilled which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
33 Pilato adunque rientrò nel palazzo, e chiamò Gesù, e gli disse: Se' tu il Re de' Giudei?
So Pilate entred into the common hall againe, and called Iesus, and sayde vnto him, Art thou the king of the Iewes?
34 Gesù gli rispose: Dici tu questo da te stesso, o pur te l'hanno altri detto di me?
Iesus answered him, Saiest thou that of thy selfe, or did other tell it thee of me?
35 Pilato gli rispose: Son io Giudeo? la tua nazione, e i principali sacerdoti ti hanno messo nelle mie mani; che hai tu fatto?
Pilate answered, Am I a Iewe? Thine owne nation, and the hie Priestes haue deliuered thee vnto me. What hast thou done?
36 Gesù rispose: Il mio regno non è di questo mondo; se il mio regno fosse di questo mondo, i miei ministri contenderebbero, acciocchè io non fossi dato in man de' Giudei; ma ora il mio regno non è di qui.
Iesus answered, My kingdome is not of this worlde: if my kingdome were of this worlde, my seruants would surely fight, that I should not be deliuered to the Iewes: but nowe is my kingdome not from hence.
37 Laonde Pilato gli disse: Dunque sei tu Re? Gesù rispose: Tu il dici; perciocchè io son Re; per questo sono io nato, e per questo son venuto nel mondo, per testimoniar della verità; chiunque è della verità ascolta la mia voce.
Pilate then said vnto him, Art thou a King then? Iesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a King: for this cause am I borne, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should beare witnes vnto the trueth: euery one that is of the trueth, heareth my voyce.
38 Pilato gli disse: Che cosa è verità? E detto questo, di nuovo uscì a' Giudei, e disse loro: Io non trovo alcun misfatto in lui.
Pilate said vnto him, What is trueth? And when he had saide that, hee went out againe vnto the Iewes, and said vnto them, I finde in him no cause at all.
39 Or voi avete una usanza ch'io vi liberi uno nella pasqua; volete voi adunque ch'io vi liberi il Re de' Giudei?
But you haue a custome, that I shoulde deliuer you one loose at the Passeouer: will yee then that I loose vnto you the King of ye Iewes?
40 E tutti gridarono di nuovo, dicendo: Non costui, anzi Barabba. Or Barabba era un ladrone.
Then cried they all againe, saying, Not him, but Barabbas: nowe this Barabbas was a murtherer.
