Gioele 1

1 La parola del Signore, la quale fu [indirizzata] a Gioele, figliuolo di Petuel.

[I am] Joel, the son of Pethuel. [This is] a message that Yahweh gave to me.

2 UDITE questo, o vecchi; e [voi], tutti gli abitanti del paese, porgete l'orecchio. Avvenne egli mai a' dì vostri, o mai a' dì de' padri vostri, una cotal cosa?

You leaders [of Israel], and everyone else who lives in this country, listen [to this message]! Nothing [RHQ] like this has ever happened during the time that we have lived or the time when our ancestors lived.

3 Raccontatela a' vostri figliuoli; e [raccontinla] i vostri figliuoli a' lor figliuoli, e i lor figliuoli alla generazione seguente.

Tell your children about it, and tell your children to tell it to their children, and tell your grandchildren to tell it to their children.

4 La locusta ha mangiato il rimanente della ruca, e il bruco ha mangiato il rimanente della locusta, e il grillo ha mangiato il rimanente del bruco.

[I am talking about] the locusts that have eaten our crops. The first swarm of locusts came and cut [many of the leaves of the crops]; then another swarm came and ate [the rest of the leaves], then another swarm came hopping along, and finally another swarm came and they destroyed [everything else].

5 Destatevi, ubbriachi, e piangete; e [voi] bevitori di vino tutti, urlate per lo mosto; perciocchè egli vi è del tutto tolto di bocca.

You people who are drunk, wake up! Wake up and wail loudly, because all the grapes are ruined, and so there will be no new wine [MTY]!

6 Perciocchè è salita contro al mio paese, una nazione possente e innumerabile; i suoi denti [son] denti di leone, ed ha de' mascellari di fiero leone.

[Huge swarms of] locusts have entered our country. [They are like] [MET] a powerful army [that has very many soldiers], [with the result that] no one can count them. The locusts have teeth that are [as sharp as] the teeth of lions [DOU]!

7 Ha deserte le mie viti, e scorzati i miei fichi: li ha del tutto spogliati, e lasciati in abbandono; i lor rami son divenuti tutti bianchi.

They have destroyed our grapevines and our fig trees [by] stripping off [and eating all] the bark, with the result that the branches are white [and (bare/have no leaves on them)].

8 Lamentati, come una vergine cinta di un sacco per lo marito della sua fanciullezza.

Cry like [SIM] a young woman cries when the young man to whom she was (engaged/promised to marry) has died.

9 L'offerta di panatica, e da spandere, è del tutto mancata nella Casa del Signore; i sacerdoti, ministri del Signore, fanno cordoglio.

There is no grain or wine for us to offer [as sacrifices] at the temple, [so] the priests who serve Yahweh are mourning/weeping.

10 I campi son guasti, la terra fa cordoglio; perciocchè il frumento è stato guasto, il mosto è seccato, l'olio è venuto meno.

[The crops in] the fields have been ruined; [it is as though] [PRS] the ground is mourning. The grain has been destroyed, there are no [grapes to make] wine, and there is no [more olive] oil.

11 Lavoratori, siate confusi; urlate, vignaiuoli, per lo frumento, e per l'orzo; perciocchè la ricolta de' campi è perita.

You farmers, grieve! You who take care of grapevines, wail, because the grain has been destroyed; there is no wheat or barley growing.

12 La vite è seccata, e il fico langue; il melagrano, [ed] anche la palma, e il melo, [e] tutti gli [altri] alberi della campagna son secchi; certo la letizia è seccata d'infra i figliuoli degli uomini.

The grapevines and the fig trees have withered, and the pomegranate [trees] and palm [trees] and apricot [trees] have also dried up. The people are no longer joyful.

13 Cingetevi [di sacchi], e piangete, o sacerdoti; urlate, ministri dell'altare; venite, passate la notte in sacchi, ministri dell'Iddio mio; perciocchè l'offerta di panatica, e da spandere, è divietata dalla Casa dell'Iddio vostro.

You priests, put on [rough] sack clothes and wail. You who serve God [by offering sacrifices] on the altar, wear those rough sack clothes all night [to show that you are mourning], because there is no grain or wine to be offered at the temple of your God.

14 Santificate il digiuno, bandite la solenne raunanza, radunate gli anziani, [e] tutti gli abitanti del paese, nella Casa del Signore Iddio vostro, e gridate al Signore:

Tell the people that they should (fast/abstain from eating food). Tell the leaders and the other people to gather at the temple and to cry [out] to Yahweh [there].

15 Ahi lasso! [l'orribil] giorno! perciocchè il giorno del Signore [è] vicino, e verrà come un guasto [fatto] dall'Onnipotente.

Terrible things are happening to us! It will soon be the time when Yahweh, [who is] the Almighty God, [will really punish us], [when he] will cause us to experience more disasters.

16 Non è il cibo del tutto riciso d'innanzi agli occhi nostri? la letizia, e la gioia [non è ella recisa] dalla Casa dell'Iddio nostro?

Our crops are already gone, and no [one is] rejoicing at all [DOU] at the temple of our God.

17 Le granella son marcite sotto alle loro zolle; le conserve son deserte, i granai son distrutti; perciocchè il frumento è perito per la siccità.

[When we plant] seeds, [they do not grow]; they dry up in the ground, so there are no crops to harvest. Our barns/storehouses are empty; there is no grain [to store in them].

18 Quanto hanno sospirato le bestie! [e quanto] sono state perplesse le mandre de' buoi, perciocchè non [vi è] alcun pasco per loro! anche le gregge delle pecore sono state desolate.

Our cattle groan, searching for a pasture with some grass to eat, and the sheep bleat because they are suffering.

19 O Signore, io grido a te; perciocchè il fuoco ha consumati i paschi del deserto, e la fiamma ha divampati tutti gli alberi della campagna.

Yahweh, I cry [out] to you, because our pastures and our forests have dried up in the hot sunshine [MET].

20 Anche le bestie della campagna hanno agognato dietro a te; perciocchè i rivi delle acque son seccati, e il fuoco ha consumati i paschi del deserto.

[It is as though] even the wild animals cry [out] to you because all the streams have dried up. The rivers and streams are all dry, and the grass in the pastures is all parched.
