Giacomo 3
1 FRATELLI miei, non siate molti maestri; sapendo che noi ne riceveremo maggior condannazione.
My brothers, not many of you should become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.
2 Poichè tutti falliamo in molte cose; se alcuno non fallisce nel parlare, esso [è] uomo compiuto, [e] può tenere a freno eziandio tutto il corpo.
Because we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, being able to bridle the whole body as well.
3 Ecco, noi mettiamo i freni nelle bocche de' cavalli, acciocchè ci ubbidiscano, e facciamo volgere tutto il corpo loro.
Consider, we put bits in horses' mouths for them to obey us, and we guide their whole body.
4 Ecco ancora le navi, benchè sieno cotanto grandi, e che sieno sospinte da fieri venti, son volte con un piccolissimo timone, dovunque il movimento di colui che [le] governa vuole.
Consider also the ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the impulse of the pilot may desire.
5 Così ancora la lingua è un piccol membro, e si vanta di gran cose. Ecco, un piccol fuoco quante legne incende!
So also the tongue is a small member and boasts great things. Just look at how great a forest a little fire can kindle!
6 La lingua altresì [è] un fuoco, [è] il mondo dell'iniquità; così dentro alle nostre membra è posta la lingua, la qual contamina tutto il corpo, e infiamma la ruota della vita, ed è infiammata dalla geenna. (Geenna g1067)
And the tongue is a fire! The organization of wickedness, that is how the tongue is placed among our members, defiling the whole body and setting on fire the course of life, itself being set on fire by hell. (Geenna g1067)
7 Poichè ogni generazione di fiere, e d'uccelli, e di rettili, e d'animali marini, si doma ed è stata domata dalla natura umana;
Every kind of animal and bird, reptile and sea creature, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race,
8 ma niun uomo può domar la lingua; ella [è] un male che non si può rattenere; [è] piena di mortifero veleno.
but no one among men is able to tame the tongue—an uncontrollable evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Per essa benediciamo Iddio e Padre; e per essa malediciamo gli uomini, che son fatti alla simiglianza di Dio.
With it we bless God and Father, and with it we curse the people who have been made in God's likeness.
10 D'una medesima bocca procede benedizione e maledizione. Non bisogna, fratelli miei, che queste cose si facciano in questa maniera.
Out of the same mouth proceed blessings and curses. My brothers, these things should not be that way.
11 La fonte sgorga ella da una medesima buca il dolce e l'amaro?
A spring does not send out sweet and bitter water from the same opening, does it?
12 Può, fratelli miei, un fico fare ulive, o una vite fichi? così niuna fonte può gettare acqua salsa, e dolce.
Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grape vine figs? Thus no spring yields salt water and sweet.
13 CHI [è] savio e saputo, fra voi? mostri, per la buona condotta, le sue opere, con mansuetudine di sapienza.
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him exhibit his works in the meekness of wisdom, by his good way of life.
14 Ma, se voi avete nel cuor vostro invidia amara e contenzione, non vi gloriate contro alla verità, e non mentite contro ad essa.
But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and lie against the truth—
15 Questa non è la sapienza che discende da alto; anzi [è] terrena, animale, diabolica.
such ‘wisdom’ is not coming down from Above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.
16 Perciocchè, dov'[è] invidia e contenzione, ivi [è] turbamento ed opera malvagia.
Because where envy and selfish ambition exist, there is unruliness and every foul practice.
17 Ma la sapienza che [è] da alto prima è pura, poi pacifica, moderata, arrendevole, piena di misericordia e di frutti buoni, senza parzialità, e senza ipocrisia.
In contrast, the wisdom from Above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
18 Or il frutto della giustizia si semina in pace da coloro che si adoperano alla pace.
Now the fruit of righteousness is planted in peace by those making peace.
