Isaia 5

1 OR io canterò all'amico mio il cantico del mio amico, intorno alla sua vigna. Il mio amico avea una vigna, in un [luogo grasso, come] un corno d'olio.

Let me sing, I pray you, for a well-beloved of mine, The song of my beloved concerning his vineyard: —A vineyard, had my well-beloved on a very fruitful hill;

2 E le fece attorno una chiusura, e ne tolse via le pietre, e la piantò di viti eccellenti, ed edificò una torre in mezzo di essa, ed anche vi fabbricò un torcolo; or egli aspettava ch'ella facesse delle uve, ed ha fatte delle lambrusche.

And he thoroughly digged it, And gathered out the stones thereof, And planted it with a precious vine, And built a tower in the midst thereof, Moreover also a wine-press, hewed he therein, —Then waited he that it should bring forth grapes. And it brought forth wild grapes:

3 Or dunque, abitanti di Gerusalemme, ed uomini di Giuda, giudicate fra me e la mia vigna.

Now, therefore, O inhabitant of Jerusalem, And men of Judah, —Judge, I pray you, betwixt me, and my vineyard: —

4 Chi si dovea più fare alla mia vigna che io non vi abbia fatto? perchè ho io aspettato che facesse delle uve, ed ha fatte delle lambrusche?

What could have been done further to my vineyard, That I had not done in it? Why then—When I had waited that it should bring forth grapes, Brought it forth, wild grapes?

5 Or dunque, io vi farò assapere ciò che io son per fare alla mia vigna. Io torrò via la sua siepe, e sarà pascolata; io romperò la sua chiusura, e sarà calpestata.

Now, therefore, I pray you, let me tell, you, what I am about to do to my vineyard, —To take away the fence thereof And it shall be eaten up, To destroy the wall thereof And it shall be trodden down;

6 E la ridurrò in deserto; non sarà potata, nè zappata; e le vepri e i pruni [vi] monteranno; divieterò ancora alle nuvole che non ispandano pioggia sopra essa.

And I will make it a waste; —It shall be neither pruned nor hoed, But there shall come up briars and thorns, —And upon the clouds, will I lay a charge, That they rain thereon no rain.

7 Certo, la vigna del Signore degli eserciti [è] la casa d'Israele, e gli uomini di Giuda [son] le piante delle sue delizie; egli [ne] ha aspettata dirittura, ed ecco lebbra; giustizia, ed ecco grido.

Surely the vineyard of Yahweh of hosts, is the house of Israel, And, the men of Judah, are the plantation in which he dearly delighted, —And he waited, For equity but lo! murderous iniquity, For the rule of right but lo the cry of the wronged.

8 Guai a coloro che congiungono casa a casa, [ed] accozzano campo a campo, finchè non [vi sia più] luogo, e che voi soli siate stanziati in mezzo della terra!

Alas for them who join house to house, Field to field, bring they near, —Until there is no room, But ye are left to dwell alone in the midst of the land.

9 Il Signor degli eserciti mi ha [detto] all'orecchio: Se le case magnifiche non son ridotte in desolazione; [e] le grandi e belle, ad esser disabitate;

In mine ears, [said] Yahweh of hosts, —Verily, houses in abundance, shall become, a desolation, Large and fair, without inhabitant;

10 quando dieci bifolche di vigna faranno [solo] un bato, e la sementa di un homer farà [solo] un efa.

For, ten yokes of vineyard, shall yield one bath, —And the seed of a homer, shall yield an ephah,

11 Guai a coloro che si levano la mattina a buon'ora, per andar dietro alla cervogia, [e] la sera dimorano lungamente [a bere, finchè il] vino li riscaldi!

Alas, for them who rise early in the morning that strong drink, they may pursue, —Who follow on in the evening cool [until] with wine, they are heated;

12 E ne' cui conviti vi è la cetera e il saltero; il tamburo, e il flauto, col vino; e non riguardano all'opera del Signore, e non veggono i fatti delle sue mani!

And it cometh to pass—that lyre and harp, timbrel and flute and wine are in their banquets, —But, the doing of Yahweh, they do not discern, And the work of his hands, have they not seen.

13 Perciò, il mio popolo è menato in cattività, perchè non ha conoscimento; e la sua nobiltà si muor di fame, e il suo popolazzo è arido di sete.

Therefore, are my people taken away captive before they know it, —And their honourable men are famished with hunger, And, their multitude, do gape for thirst.

14 Perciò, il sepolcro si è allargato, ed ha aperta la sua gola smisuratamente; e la nobiltà di Gerusalemme, ed il suo popolazzo, e la sua turba, e coloro che in essa festeggiano, vi scenderanno. (Sheol h7585)

Therefore, hath hades enlarged her desire, And opened her mouth to its widest, —And their glory, and their multitude and their pomp. and he that is uproarious shall descend thereinto. (Sheol h7585)

15 E la gente vile sarà depressa, e [parimente] gli uomini onorati saranno abbattuti, e gli occhi degli altieri saranno abbassati.

And the mean man hath been bowed down And the mighty man hath been humbled, —Yea the looks of the haughty shall be humbled.

16 E il Signor degli eserciti sarà esaltato per giudicio, e l'Iddio santo sarà santificato per giustizia.

But Yahweh of hosts, hath been exalted, in justice, —And the GOD that is holy hath been hallowed in righteousness;

17 E gli agnelli pastureranno presso alle lor mandre; e i pellegrini mangeranno i luoghi deserti delle [bestie] grasse.

Then shall the young rams feed where they please, —And, the wastes of the wealthy, shall strangers consume.

18 Guai a coloro che tirano l'iniquità con funi di vanità, e il peccato come con corde di carro!

Alas! for them Who draw on themselves punishment with cords of falsehood, —And as with waggon-bands, penalty:

19 I quali dicono: Affrettisi pure, e solleciti l'opera sua, acciocchè, noi [la] veggiamo; ed accostisi, e venga pure il consiglio del Santo d'Israele, acciocchè noi [lo] conosciamo.

Who say—Let his work quicken—let it hasten, That we may see, —And let the purpose of Israel’s Holy One, draw near and come. That we may know!

20 Guai a coloro che dicono del male bene, e del bene male; i quali fanno delle tenebre luce, e della luce tenebre; i quali fanno dell'amaro il dolce, e del dolce l'amaro!

Alas! for them Who call evil good and good evil, —Who put darkness for light and light for darkness, Who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.

21 Guai a coloro che si reputano savi, e [che sono] intendenti appo loro stessi.

Alas for them Who are wise in their own eyes, —And in their own sight, are prudent.

22 Guai a coloro che son valenti a bere il vino, e prodi a mescer la cervogia!

Alas for them Who are heroes to drink wine, —And men of valour to mingle strong drink,

23 A coloro che giustificano l'empio per presenti, e tolgono a' giusti la lor ragione!

Who justify the lawless, for a bribe, —Whereas the righteousness of the righteous, they take from him.

24 Perciò, siccome la fiamma del fuoco divora la stoppia, e la vampa consuma la paglia, [così] la lor radice sarà come una cosa marcia, e i lor germogli se ne andran via come la polvere; perciocchè hanno sprezzata la Legge del Signor degli eserciti, ed han disdegnata la parola del Santo d'Israele.

Therefore, As a tongue of fire, eateth up straw, And a flame reduceth, dry grass, to powder, Their root, like rottenness, shall become, And their blossom, like dust shall ascend, —Because they refused the law of Yahweh of hosts, And the utterance of the Holy One of Israel, they despised.

25 Perciò, l'ira del Signore si è accesa contro al suo popolo; ed egli ha stesa la sua mano contro ad esso, e l'ha percosso; e i monti [ne] hanno tremato; e i lor corpi morti sono stati a giusa di letame in mezzo delle strade. Per tutto ciò l'ira del Signore non si è racquetata; ma la sua mano [è] ancora stesa.

For this cause, did the anger of Yahweh kindle upon his own people, And he stretched out his hand against them and smote them—So that the mountains, trembled, And, their dead bodies, served, for fuel in the midst of the streets. For all this, hath his anger, not turned back, But still, is his hand outstretched,

26 Ed egli alzerà la bandiera alle nazioni lontane, e fischierà loro dall'estremità della terra; ed ecco, prestamente [e] leggermente verranno.

Therefore will he lift up an ensign to the nations afar off, And signal for him from the end of the earth, —And lo! with hot haste, will he come:

27 Fra esse non [vi sarà] alcuno stanco, nè fiacco; non saranno sonnacchiosi, nè addormentati; e la cintura de' lombi loro non sarà sciolta, nè la correggia delle scarpe rotta.

None shall be weary, and none shall stumble in his midst, He shall neither slumber nor sleep, —Nor shall be loosened, the girdle of his loins, Nor snapped, the thong of his sandals:

28 Le lor saette [saranno] acute, e tutti i loro archi tesi; l'unghie de' lor cavalli saranno reputate come selci, e le ruote [de]'lor [carri] come un turbo.

Whose arrows, are sharpened, and all his bows, bent, —The hoofs of his horses, like flint, are accounted, And, his wheels, [are] like a storm-wind:

29 Avranno un ruggito simile a quel del leone, e ruggiranno come leoncelli; fremeranno, e daranno di piglio alla preda, e [la] rapiranno, senza che alcuno [la] riscuota.

A roar, hath he, like a lioness, —He will roar like wild lions—And will growl, and lay hold on prey, and carry into safety, and there be none to deliver.

30 E in quel giorno fremeranno contro al popolo, come freme il mare; ed egli guarderà verso la terra, ed ecco tenebre, [e] distretta, [che si rinnovellerà] col dì; [e] nel cielo di essa farà scuro.

Yea he will growl at him in that day, like the growling of the sea, —Though he look hard for the land, lo! the darkness of distress, Yea the light, hath grown dark in its clouds!
