Isaia 28

1 GUAI alla corona della superbia degli ubbriachi di Efraim; la gloria della cui magnificenza [è] un fiore che si appassa; i quali [abitano] nel sommo delle valli grasse, e sono storditi di vino!

Woe to the crown of pride, the hirelings of Ephraim, the flower that has fallen from the glory of the top of the fertile mountain, they that are drunken without wine.

2 Ecco, il Signore ha appo sè un [uomo] forte e potente, [che sarà] come un nembo di gragnuola, [come] un turbo fracassante; egli atterrerà [ogni cosa] con la mano, a guisa d'una piena di grandi acque traboccanti.

Behold, the anger of the Lord is strong and severe, as descending hail where there is no shelter, violently descending; as a great body of water sweeping away the soil, he shall make rest for the land.

3 La corona della superbia, gli ubbriachi di Efraim, saranno calpestati co' piedi;

The crown of pride, the hirelings of Ephraim, shall be beaten down with the hands and with the feet.

4 e la gloria della magnificenza di colui che [abita] nel sommo delle valli grasse, sarà [come] un fiore che si appassa; come un frutto primaticcio avanti la state, il qual tosto che alcuno ha veduto, lo trangugia, come prima l'ha in mano.

And the fading flower of the glorious hope on the top of the high mountain shall be as the early fig; he that sees it, before he takes it into his hand, will desire to swallow it down.

5 In quel giorno il Signor degli eserciti sarà per corona di gloria, e per benda di magnificenza, al rimanente del suo popolo;

In that day the Lord of hosts shall be the crown of hope, the woven [crown] of glory, to the remnant of the people.

6 e [sarà] per ispirito di giudicio a colui che siede sopra il [seggio del] giudicio; e per forza a quelli che fanno nella battaglia voltar le spalle [a' nemici] fino alla porta.

They shall be left in the spirit of judgment for judgment, and for the strength of them that hinder slaying.

7 Or anche costoro si sono invaghiti del vino, e son traviati nella cervogia; il sacerdote e il profeta si sono invaghiti della cervogia, sono stati perduti per lo vino, [e] traviati per la cervogia; hanno errato nella visione, si sono intoppati nel giudicio.

For these have trespassed through wine; they have erred through strong drink: the priest and the prophet are mad through strong drink, they are swallowed up by reason of wine, they have staggered through drunkenness; they have erred: this is [their] vision.

8 Perciocchè tutte le tavole son piene di vomito [e] di lordure; non [vi è più] luogo [netto].

A curse shall devour this counsel, for this [is their] counsel for the sake of covetousness.

9 A cui s'insegnerebbe la scienza, ed a cui si farebbe intender la dottrina? [costoro son come] bambini spoppati, svezzati dalle mammelle.

To whom have we reported evils? and to whom have we reported a message? [even to those] that are weaned from the milk, who are drawn from the breast.

10 Perciocchè [bisogna dar loro] insegnamento dopo insegnamento, insegnamento dopo insegnamento; linea dopo linea, linea dopo linea; un poco qui, un poco là.

Expect thou affliction on affliction, hope upon hope: yet a little, [and] yet a little,

11 Conciossiachè [Iddio] parli a questo popolo con labbra balbettanti, e in lingua straniera.

by reason of the contemptuous [words] of the lips, by means of another language: for they shall speak to this people, saying to them,

12 Perciocchè egli avea lor detto: Questo [è] il riposo; date riposo allo stanco; questa [è] la quiete; ma essi non hanno voluto ascoltare.

This is the rest to him that is hungry, and this is the calamity: but they would not hear.

13 La parola del Signore adunque sarà loro [a guisa] d'insegnamento dopo insegnamento, d'insegnamento dopo insegnamento; di linea dopo linea, di linea dopo linea; un poco qui, un poco là; acciocchè vadano, e cadano a ritroso, e sieno fiaccati, e sieno allacciati, e presi.

Therefore the oracle of God shall be to them affliction on affliction, hope on hope, yet a little, [and] yet a little, that they may go and fall backward; and they shall be crushed and shall be in danger, and shall be taken.

14 Perciò, ascoltate la parola del Signore, uomini schernitori, che signoreggiate questo popolo, che [è] in Gerusalemme.

Therefore hear ye the word of the Lord, ye afflicted men, and ye princes of this people that is in Jerusalem.

15 Perciocchè voi avete detto: Noi abbiam fatto patto con la morte, ed abbiam fatta lega col sepolcro; quando il flagello inondante passerà, egli non giungerà infino a noi; conciossiachè noi abbiam posta la menzogna per nostro ricetto, e ci siam nascosti nella falsità; (Sheol h7585)

Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with Hades, and agreements with death; if the rushing storm should pass, it shall not come upon us: we have made falsehood our hope, and by falsehood shall we be protected: (Sheol h7585)

16 perciò, così ha detto il Signore Iddio: Ecco, io [son quel] che ho posta in Sion una pietra, una pietra a prova, [pietra di] cantone preziosa, un fondamento [ben] fondato; chi crederà non si smarrirà.

Therefore thus saith the Lord, [even] the Lord, Behold, I lay for the foundations of Sion a costly stone, a choice, a corner-stone, a precious [stone], for its foundations; and he that believes [on him] shall by no means be ashamed.

17 E metterò il giudicio al regolo, e la giustizia al livello; e la gragnuola spazzerà via il ricetto di menzogna, e le acque ne inonderanno il nascondimento.

And I will cause judgment [to be] for hope, and my compassion shall be for [just] measures, and ye that trust vainly in falsehood [shall fall]: for the storm shall by no means pass by you,

18 E il vostro patto con la morte sarà annullato, e la vostra lega col sepolcro non sarà ferma; quando il flagello inondante passerà, voi ne sarete calpestati. (Sheol h7585)

except it also take away your covenant of death, and your trust in Hades shall by no means stand: if the rushing storm should come upon you, ye shall be beaten down by it. (Sheol h7585)

19 Da che passerà, egli vi porterà via; perciocchè passerà mattina dopo mattina, di giorno e di notte; e il sentirne il grido non produrrà altro che commovimento.

Whenever it shall pass by, it shall take you; morning by morning it shall pass by in the day, and in the night there shall be an evil hope. Learn to hear,

20 Perciocchè il letto sarà troppo corto, da potervisi distender dentro; e la coverta troppo stretta, per avvilupparsene.

ye that are distressed; we cannot fight, but we are ourselves too weak for you to be gathered.

21 Perciocchè il Signore si leverà, come nel monte di Perasim, [e] si commoverà come nella valle di Gabaon, per far la sua opera, la sua opera strana; e per eseguire la sua operazione, la sua operazione straordinaria.

The Lord shall rise up as a mountain of ungodly [men], and shall be in the valley of Gabaon; he shall perform his works with wrath, [even] a work of bitterness, and his wrath shall deal strangely, and his destruction shall be strange.

22 Ora dunque, non vi fate beffe; che talora i vostri legami non sieno rinforzati; perciocchè io ho udita da parte del Signore Iddio degli eserciti una sentenza finale, ed una determinazione contro a tutto il paese.

Therefore do not ye rejoice, neither let your bands be made strong; for I have heard of works finished and cut short by the Lord of hosts, which he will execute upon all the earth.

23 Porgete le orecchie, ed ascoltate la mia voce; state attenti, ed ascoltate il mio ragionamento.

Hearken, and hear my voice; attend, and hear my words.

24 L'aratore ara egli ogni giorno per seminare? non rompe, e non erpica egli la sua terra?

Will the ploughman plough all the day? or will he prepare the seed beforehand, before he tills the ground?

25 Quando ne ha appianato il disopra, non [vi] sparge egli la veccia, e non vi semina egli il comino, e non vi pone egli il frumento a certa misura, e l'orzo a certi segni, e la spelta nel suo proprio spazio?

Does he not, when he has levelled the surface thereof, then sow the small black poppy, or cumin, and afterward sow wheat, and barley, and millet, and bread-corn in thy borders?

26 E l'Iddio suo l'ammaestra, e gl'insegna l'ordine che deve guardare.

So thou shalt be chastened by the judgment of thy God, and shalt rejoice.

27 Conciossiachè non si trebbi la veccia con la trebbia, e non si ravvolga la ruota del carro sopra il comino; anzi si scuote la veccia con la bacchetta, e il comino con la mazza.

For the black poppy is not cleansed with harsh treatment, nor will a wagon-wheel pass over the cumin; but the black poppy is threshed with a rod, and the cumin shall be eaten with bread;

28 [Ma] il frumento è trebbiato; perciocchè [altrimenti] egli non lo batterebbe giammai abbastanza. Così lo trebbia con le ruote del suo carro, ma non lo frange già coi denti del suo rastrello.

for I will not be wroth with you for ever, neither shall the voice of my anger crush you.

29 Questo altresì procede dal Signor degli eserciti, [il quale] è maraviglioso in consiglio, e grande in sapienza.

And these signs came forth from the Lord of hosts. Take counsel, exalt vain comfort.
