Ezechiele 35

1 LA parola del Signore mi fu ancora [indirizzata], dicendo:

Yahweh gave me another message. He said,

2 Figliuol d'uomo, volgi la tua faccia verso il monte di Seir, e profetizza contro ad esso, e digli:

“You human, turn toward Edom and prophesy what will happen to its people. Say that this is what Yahweh says to them:

3 Così ha detto il Signore Iddio: Eccomi a te, o monte di Seir, e stenderò la mia mano sopra te, e ti ridurrò in desolazione, e in deserto.

‘You who live near Seir Mountain [in Edom], I am opposed to you, and I will use my power [MTY] to strike you and cause your country to become a wasteland.

4 Io metterò le tue città in deserto, e tu sarai desolato, e conoscerai che io [sono] il Signore.

I will cause your country to be ruined and desolate. When that happens, people will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].

5 Perciocchè tu hai avuta nimicizia antica, ed hai atterrati i figliuoli d'Israele per la spada, nel tempo della lor calamità, nel tempo del colmo dell'iniquità.

You have always been enemies of the Israeli people. You [rejoiced] when they experienced a great disaster: [their enemies attacked them with] swords, when I punished them [for the sins that they had committed].

6 Perciò, [come] io vivo, dice il Signore Iddio, io ti metterò tutto in sangue, e il sangue ti perseguiterà; se tu non hai avuto in odio il sangue, il sangue altresì ti perseguiterà.

Therefore, I, Yahweh the Lord, declare that as surely as I am alive, I will allow [your enemies] to slaughter [MTY] you and continue to slaughter you. You were happy when [LIT] others were slaughtered;

7 E metterò il monte di Seir in desolazione, e in deserto; e farò che non vi sarà più chi vada, nè chi venga.

so I will cause Seir Mountain to be abandoned/deserted, and I will get rid of anyone who enters it or leaves it.

8 Ed empierò i suoi monti de' suoi uccisi; gli uccisi con la spada caderanno sopra i tuoi colli, nelle tue valli, e per tutte le tue pendici.

I will cause your mountains to be filled with [the corpses of] those who have been killed. The corpses of those who have been killed by [your enemies’] swords will lie on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines.

9 Io ti ridurrò in deserti eterni, e le tue città non saranno [giammai più] ristorate; e voi conoscerete che io [sono] il Signore.

I will cause your land to be deserted forever. No one will live in your towns again. When that happens, you will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].

10 Perciocchè tu hai detto: Quelle due nazioni, e que' due paesi saranno miei; e noi le possederemo (benchè il Signore sia stato quivi);

You people said, “Israel and Judah will become ours. We will take over their territory!” You said that even though I, Yahweh, was still there [and protecting them].

11 perciò, [come] io vivo, dice il Signore Iddio, io opererò secondo la tua ira, e secondo la tua gelosia, onde hai prodotti gli effetti, per lo grande odio tuo contro a loro; e sarò conosciuto fra loro, quando ti avrò giudicato.

Therefore, I, Yahweh the Lord, declare that as surely as I am alive, I will punish [MTY] you for being angry with my people, envying them, and hating them.

12 E tu conoscerai che io, il Signore, ho udito tutti i tuoi oltraggi, che tu hai detti contro a' monti d'Israele, dicendo: Eglino son deserti, ci son dati per divorar[li];

Then you will know that I, Yahweh, have heard all the disgusting things that you have said about the mountains in Israel. You said that they have been ruined/devastated, and that they have been given to you to occupy [MET].

13 e che altresì ho udito [come] voi vi siete magnificati contro a me con la vostra bocca, e avete moltiplicate le vostre parole contro a me.

When you insulted me, I heard all that you said about me.

14 Così ha detto il Signore Iddio: Quando tutta la terra si rallegrerà, io ti ridurrò in desolazione.

So this is what I, Yahweh the Lord, say: You people who live on Seir Mountain and in all the other places in Edom, when I cause your land to become desolate, everyone in the entire world will rejoice.

15 Siccome tu ti sei rallegrato per l'eredità della casa d'Israele, per ciò ch'era deserta; così ancora io opererò inverso te; tu sarai desolato, o monte di Seir; anzi Edom tutto quanto; e si conoscerà che io [sono] il Signore.

You were happy when the land [MTY] of the Israeli people became desolate, so I will cause your land to become desolate. When that happens, people will know that I, Yahweh, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].’”
