Esodo 5

1 POI Mosè ed Aaronne vennero a Faraone, e gli dissero: Così ha detto il Signore Iddio d'Israele: Lascia andare il mio popolo, acciocchè mi celebri una festa nel deserto.

And after that Moses and Aaron went in, and said unto Pharaoh, Thus hath said the Everlasting One, the God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

2 Ma Faraone disse: Chi [è] il Signore, che io ubbidisca alla sua voce, per lasciare andare Israele? Io non conosco il Signore, e anche non lascerò andare Israele.

And Pharaoh said, Who is the Everlasting, whose voice I am to obey, to let Israel go? I know not the Everlasting, nor will I let Israel go.

3 Ed essi dissero: L'Iddio degli Ebrei ci ha scontrati; deh! [lascia] che noi andiamo tre giornate di cammino nel deserto, e che sacrifichiamo al Signore Iddio nostro; che talora egli non si avventi sopra noi con pestilenza, o con la spada.

And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, a three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the Lord our God; lest he fall upon us with the pestilence, or with the sword.

4 E il re di Egitto disse loro: O Mosè ed Aaronne, perchè distraete il popolo dalle sue opere? andate a' vostri incarichi.

And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, hinder the people from their works? get you unto your own affairs.

5 Faraone disse ancora: Ecco, ora il popolo del paese [è] in gran numero; e voi lo fate restare da' suoi incarichi.

And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye disturb them in the pursuit of their labors.

6 E quell'istesso giorno Faraone comandò a' commissari [costituiti] sopra il popolo, e a' rettori d'esso, e disse:

And Pharaoh commanded on the same day the taskmasters of the people, and its officers, saying,

7 Non continuate più a dar della paglia a questo popolo, per fare i mattoni, come [avete fatto] per addietro; vadano essi [medesimi], e raccolgansi della paglia.

Ye shall no more give the people straw to make the bricks, as yesterday and the day before; they themselves shall go and gather themselves straw.

8 E pure imponete loro la [medesima] somma di mattoni che facevano per addietro; non diminuitene [nulla]; perciocchè essi [sono] oziosi, e però gridano, dicendo: Andiamo, sacrifichiamo all'Iddio nostro.

And the number of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall impose upon them, ye shall not diminish aught thereof; for they are idle: therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

9 Sia il lavoro aggravato sopra questi uomini; e lavorino intorno ad esso, e non attendano a parole di menzogna.

Let the work be made to lie heavily upon the men, that they may have enough to do therein; and that they may not pay attention to false words.

10 I commissari adunque del popolo, e i rettori di esso, uscirono fuori, e dissero al popolo: Così ha detto Faraone: Io non vi darò più paglia.

And the taskmasters of the people and its officers went out, and they said to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you any straw.

11 Andate voi [medesimi], e prendetevi della paglia dovunque ne troverete; perciocchè nulla sarà diminuito del vostro lavoro.

Go ye, get yourselves straw from wherever ye can find it; yet not the least shall be taken off from your work.

12 E il popolo si sparse per tutto il paese di Egitto, per raccoglier della stoppia in [luogo] di paglia.

And the people scattered themselves abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

13 E i commissari sollecitavano, dicendo: Fornite le vostre opere, giorno per giorno, come quando avevate della paglia.

And the taskmasters were urgent, saying, Fulfill your works, every day its due portion, just as when there was straw.

14 E i rettori dei figliuoli d'Israele, i quali i commissari di Faraone aveano costituiti sopra loro, furono battuti; e fu [lor] detto: Perchè non avete voi fornito ieri ed oggi la somma de' mattoni che vi è imposta, come per addietro?

And the officers of the children of Israel, whom the taskmasters of Pharaoh had set over them, were beaten, as these said, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick as heretofore, both yesterday and today?

15 E i rettori de' figliuoli d'Israele vennero, e gridarano a Faraone, dicendo: Perchè fai così a' tuoi servitori?

And the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?

16 E' non si dà paglia a' tuoi servitori, e pur ci dicono: Fate de' mattoni; ed ora i tuoi servitori [son] battuti; e il tuo popolo commette fallo.

Straw is not given unto thy servants, and, Make bricks, say they to us: and, behold, thy servants are beaten, and thy people are treated as sinners.

17 Ed egli disse: Voi [siete] oziosi, [voi siete] oziosi; perciò dite: Andiamo, sacrifichiamo al Signore.

But he said, Idle are ye, idle; therefore say ye, Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.

18 Ora dunque andate, lavorate; e' non vi si darà paglia, e pur renderete la somma de' mattoni.

And now go, work, and straw shall not be given you; yet the required number of bricks shall ye deliver.

19 E i rettori de' figliuoli d'Israele, veggendoli a mal [partito], essendo lor detto: Non diminuite nulla de' mattoni impostivi giorno per giorno,

And the officers of the children of Israel saw themselves in the evil necessity to say, Ye shall not diminish aught from your bricks, every day of its task.

20 quando uscirono d'appresso a Faraone, scontrarono Mosè ed Aaronne, che si presentarono davanti a loro.

And they met Moses and Aaron, standing in their way, as they came forth from Pharaoh.

21 Ed essi dissero loro: Il Signore riguardi a voi, e faccia[ne] giudicio; conciossiachè voi abbiate renduto puzzolente l'odor nostro appo Faraone, e appo i suoi servitori, dando loro in mano la spada per ucciderci.

And they said unto them, May the Lord look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

22 E MOSÈ ritornò al Signore, e disse: Signore, perchè hai fatto [questo] male a questo popolo? perchè mi hai mandato?

And Moses returned unto the Lord, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou let so much evil come upon this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?

23 Conciossiachè dacchè io son venuto a Faraone, per parlargli in nome tuo, egli abbia trattato male questo popolo; e tu non hai punto liberato il tuo popolo.

For, since I came unto Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done more evil to this people; but thou hast in nowise delivered thy people.
