Esodo 22

1 QUANDO alcuno avrà rubato un bue, o una pecora, o una capra, e l'avrà ammazzata o venduta; paghi cinque buoi per quel bue, e quattro pecore, o capre, per quella pecora, o capra.

If a man steale an oxe or a sheepe, and kill it or sell it, he shall restore fiue oxen for the oxe, and foure sheepe for the sheepe.

2 Se il ladro, colto [di notte] nello sconficcare è percosso, e muore, non vi è omicidio.

If a thiefe bee founde breaking vp, and be smitten that he dye, no blood shall be shed for him.

3 Se il sole è levato quando sarà colto, [vi è] omicidio. [Il ladro] soddisfaccia del tutto; e se non ha [da soddisfare], sia venduto per lo suo furto.

But if it be in the day light, blood shall be shed for him: for he should make full restitution: if he had not wherewith, then shoulde he bee solde for his theft.

4 Se pure il furto gli è trovato in mano, vivo; o bue, o asino, o pecora che sia, restituisca[lo] al doppio.

If the theft bee founde with him, aliue, (whether it be oxe, asse, or sheepe) he shall restore the double.

5 Se alcuno fa pascolare un campo, o una vigna; e se manda nel campo altrui il suo bestiame, il quale vi pasturi dentro, soddisfaccia il danno col meglio del suo campo, e col meglio della sua vigna.

If a man doe hurt fielde, or vineyarde, and put in his beast to feed in an other mans fielde, he shall recompence of the best of his owne fielde, and of the best of his owne vineyard.

6 Quando un fuoco uscirà fuori, e incontrerà delle spine, onde sia consumato grano in bica, o biade, o campo, del tutto soddisfaccia il danno colui che avrà acceso il fuoco.

If fire breake out, and catche in ye thornes, and the stackes of corne, or the standing corne, or the fielde be consumed, he that kindled the fire shall make full restitution.

7 Quando alcuno avrà dato al suo prossimo danari, o vasellamenti, a guardare, [e quelli] saranno rubati dalla casa di colui, se il ladro è trovato, restituisca[li] al doppio.

If a man deliuer his neighbour money or stuffe to keepe, and it be stollen out of his house, if the thiefe be found, he shall pay the double.

8 Se il ladro non si trova, facciasi comparire il padron della casa davanti a' rettori, [per giurare] s'egli non ha punto messa la mano sopra la roba del suo prossimo.

If the thiefe be not founde, then the master of the house shalbe brought vnto the Iudges to sweare, whether he hath put his hande vnto his neighbours good, or no.

9 In ogni causa di misfatto intorno a bue, asino, pecora, capra, vestimento, o a qualunque [altra] cosa perduta, della quale [uno] dica: Questa [è] dessa; venga la causa d'amendue [le parti] davanti a' rettori; e colui che i rettori avranno condannato, paghi il doppio al suo prossimo.

In all maner of trespasse, whether it bee for oxen, for asse, for sheepe, for raiment, or for any maner of lost thing, which an other chalengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the iudges, and whom the Iudges condemne, he shall pay the double vnto his neighbour.

10 Quando alcuno avrà dato al suo prossimo, asino, o bue, o pecora, o qualunque [altra] bestia, a guardare, ed ella muore, o le si fiacca [alcun membro], o è rapita, senza che alcuno l'abbia veduto,

If a man deliuer vnto his neighbour to keepe asse, or oxe, or sheepe, or any beast, and it die, or be hurt, or taken away by enemies, and no man see it,

11 il giuramento del Signore intervenga fra le due [parti, per saper] se [colui] non ha punto messa la mano sopra il bene del suo prossimo; e accetti il padron della bestia [quel giuramento], e non sia l'altro obbligato a pagamento.

An othe of the Lord shalbe betweene the twaine, that hee hath not put his hande vnto his neighbours good, and the owner of it shall take the othe, and he shall not make it good:

12 Ma se pur [quella bestia] gli è stata rubata d'appresso, facciane soddisfazione al padron di essa.

But if it be stollen from him, he shall make restitution vnto the owner thereof.

13 Se pur quella bestia è stata lacerata [dalle fiere], portila [per] testimonianza, e non sia obbligato a pagar la [bestia].

If it be torne in pieces, he shall bring recorde, and shall not make that good, which is deuoured.

14 E quando alcuno avrà presa in prestanza [una bestia] dal suo prossimo, e le si fiaccherà [alcun membro], o morrà, e il padrone di essa non [sarà] presente, del tutto [colui] paghila.

And if a man borow ought of his neighbour, and it be hurt, or els die, the owner thereof not being by, he shall surely make it good.

15 [Ma] se il padrone [è stato] presente, non sia [colui] obbligato a pagar[la]; se la bestia è stata tolta a vettura, ell'è venuta per lo prezzo della sua vettura.

If the owner thereof bee by, hee shall not make it good: for if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire.

16 E quando alcuno avrà sedotta una vergine, la qual non sia sposata, e sarà giaciuto con lei, del tutto dotila, [e prendalasi] per moglie.

And if a man entise a maide that is not betrothed, and lie with her, hee shall endowe her, and take her to his wife.

17 Se pure il padre di essa del tutto ricusa di dargliela, paghi danari, secondo la dote delle vergini.

If her father refuse to giue her to him, hee shall pay money, according to ye dowry of virgins.

18 Non lasciar vivere la [donna] maliosa.

Thou shalt not suffer a witch to liue.

19 Chiunque si congiungerà con una bestia, del tutto sia fatto morire.

Whosoeuer lieth with a beast, shall dye the death.

20 Chi sacrificherà ad [altri] dii, fuor che al Signore solo, sia sterminato come anatema.

Hee that offereth vnto any gods, saue vnto the Lord onely, shalbe slaine.

21 Non far violenza al forestiere, e non opprimerlo; conciossiachè voi siate stati forestieri nel paese di Egitto.

Moreouer, thou shalt not do iniurie to a stranger, neither oppresse him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

22 Non affliggete alcuna vedova nè orfano.

Ye shall not trouble any widowe, nor fatherlesse childe.

23 Guardati d'affliggerlo in alcuna maniera, perciocchè, se egli grida a me, io del tutto esaudirò il suo grido.

If thou vexe or trouble such, and so he call and cry vnto me, I will surely heare his cry.

24 E l'ira mia si accenderà, ed io vi ucciderò con la spada: e le vostre mogli saranno vedove, e i vostri figliuoli orfani.

Then shall my wrath be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wiues shall be widowes, and your children fatherlesse.

25 Quando tu presterai danari al mio popolo, al povero [ch'è] appresso a te, non procedere inverso lui a guisa di usuraio: non imponetegli usura.

If thou lende money to my people, that is, to the poore with thee, thou shalt not bee as an vsurer vnto him: yee shall not oppresse him with vsurie.

26 Se pur tu togli in pegno il vestimento del tuo prossimo, rendiglielo infra il tramontar del sole.

If thou take thy neighbours rayment to pledge, thou shalt restore it vnto him before the sunne go downe:

27 Perciocchè quello solo [è] la sua copritura, ed [è] il suo vestire [per coprir] la sua pelle; in che giacerebbe egli? se dunque egli avviene che egli gridi a me, io l'esaudirò; perciocchè io [son] pietoso.

For that is his couering only, and this is his garment for his skin: wherin shall he sleepe? therefore when he crieth vnto mee, I will heare him: for I am mercifull.

28 Non dir male de' rettori; e non maledir [colui ch'è] principe nel tuo popolo.

Thou shalt not raile vpon the Iudges, neither speake euil of the ruler of thy people.

29 Non indugiare [il pagar le primizie del]la tua vendemmia, nè del gocciolar de' tuoi olii; dammi il primogenito dei tuoi figliuoli.

Thine abundance and thy licour shalt thou not keepe backe. The first borne of thy sonnes shalt thou giue me.

30 Fa' il simigliante del tuo bue, e della tua pecora, e capra; stia [il primo portato di esse] sette giorni appresso la madre sua, e all'ottavo giorno dammelo.

Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen and with thy sheepe: seuen dayes it shall bee with his damme, and the eight day thou shalt giue it me.

31 E siatemi uomini santi; e non mangiate carne lacerata [dalle fiere] per li campi; gittatela a' cani.

Ye shall be an holy people vnto me, neither shall ye eate any flesh that is torne of beastes in the fielde: ye shall cast it to the dogge.
