2 Samuele 14

1 OR Ioab, figliuolo di Seruia, conoscendo che il cuor del re [era] inverso Absalom, mandò in Tecoa,

And when now Joab the son of Zeruyah perceived that the heart of the king was [turned] toward Abshalom:

2 e ne fece venire una donna accorta, alla quale disse: Deh! infigniti di far duolo, e vestiti di vestimenti da cordoglio, e non ungerti di olio; anzi sii a guisa di una donna, che già da molti giorni faccia cordoglio di un morto;

Then sent Joab to Tekoa', and he fetched thence a wise woman, and said to her, Feign. I pray thee, as though thou mournest, and do put on mourning garments, and anoint thyself not with oil; but be as a woman that hath these many days been mourning for the dead.

3 ed entra dal re, e digli tali e tali cose. E Ioab le mise le parole in bocca.

And thou must come to the king and speak with him after these words: and Joab put the words into her mouth.

4 Quella donna Tecoita adunque andò a parlare al re, e si gittò in terra sopra la sua faccia, e si prosternò, e disse: Salvami, o re.

And the woman from Tekoa' spoke to the king, and fell on her face to the ground, and bowed herself, and said, Help, O king!

5 E il re le disse: Che hai? Ed ella disse: Certo io [sono] una donna vedova, e il mio marito è morto.

And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she said, Truly, I am a widow-woman; since my husband is dead.

6 Ora la tua servente avea due figliuoli, i quali vennero a contesa fuori a' campi; e, non essendovi fra loro chi li spartisse, l'uno percosse l'altro, e l'uccise.

And thy hand-maid had two sons, and they two quarreled together in the field, and there was no one between them to help [either]; so the one smote the other, and slew him.

7 Ed ecco, tutto il parentado si è levato contro alla tua servente, dicendo: Dacci colui che ha percosso il suo fratello, acciocchè lo facciamo morire, per la vita del suo fratello ch'egli ha ucciso, e [lo] sterminiamo; benchè egli sia l'erede; e così spegneranno il carbone acceso che mi è rimasto, senza lasciare al mio marito alcun nome, nè alcun rimanente sopra la faccia della terra.

And, behold, the whole family is risen up against thy handmaid, and they said, Give up the slayer of his brother, that we may have him put to death, for the life of his brother whom he hath killed; and we will destroy also the heir: and thus they will quench my coal which is remaining, so as not to allow to my husband either name or remainder upon the face of the earth.

8 E il re disse alla donna: Vattene a casa tua, ed io darò ordine intorno al fatto tuo.

And the king said unto the woman, Go to thy house, and I will issue [my] charge concerning thee.

9 E la donna Tecoita disse al re: O re, mio signore, l'iniquità [sia] sopra me, e sopra la casa di mio padre; e [sia] innocente il re e il suo trono.

Then said the woman of Tekoa unto the king, On me, my Lord, O king, be the iniquity, and on my father's house: and may the king and his throne be guiltless.

10 E il re [le] disse: Se alcuno parla contro a te, fallo venire a me, ed egli non ti toccherà più.

And the king said, Whosoever speaketh aught unto thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more.

11 Ed ella disse: Deh! mentovi il re il Signore Iddio suo, che tu non lascerai che il vendicatore del sangue passi misura per uccidere; e che non istermineranno il mio figliuolo. Ed egli [le] disse: [Come] vive il Signore, non caderà pure un capello del tuo figliuolo a terra.

Then said she, Let the king, I pray thee, remember the Lord thy God, so as not to suffer the avenger of the blood to cause yet more destruction, and that they may not destroy my son. And he said, As the Lord liveth, there shall not fall one hair of thy son to the earth.

12 E la donna disse: Deh! [lascia] che la tua servente dica una parola al re, mio signore. Ed egli [le] disse: Parla.

Then said the woman, Let thy hand-maid, I pray thee, speak unto my Lord the king one word. And he said, Speak on.

13 E la donna disse: Perchè dunque hai tu pensato una cosa simile a questa contro al popolo di Dio? e il re parlando in questa maniera, [è] in certo modo colpevole, non facendo tornar colui ch'egli ha cacciato.

And the woman said, Wherefore then hast thou thought such a thing against the people of God? and since the king doth speak this thing, he is as a guilty man, if the king do not permit his banished one to return home.

14 Perciocchè noi per certo morremo, e [saremo] simili ad acqua sparsa in terra, la qual non si può raccogliere; e Iddio non ha riguardo ad alcuna persona; pensi adunque [il re] alcun modo, che colui ch'è cacciato non rimanga scacciato da lui.

For we must needs die, and are as water which is spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; and yet doth God not take away life; and he deviseth thoughts, so that the banished one may not remain banished from him.

15 Ed ora ciò che io son venuta per parlare di questa cosa al re, mio signore, [è stato] perchè il popolo mi ha fatto paura; onde la tua servente ha detto: Ora io parlerò col re; forse il re farà ciò che la sua servente gli dirà.

And now that I am come to speak unto my Lord the king of this thing, [happened] because the people made me afraid; and therefore thy hand-maid said, I will still speak unto the king; perhaps the king may act [in accordance with] the word of his hand-maid.

16 Se il re acconsente di liberar la sua servente dalla mano di colui che vuole sterminar me, e insieme il mio figliuolo, dall'eredità del Signore; la tua servente ha anche detto:

For the king may hear [me], to deliver his hand-maid out of the hand of the man [that desireth] to exterminate me and my son together out of the inheritance of God.

17 Or sarà la parola del re, mio signore, a tranquillità; perciocchè il re, mio signore, [è] come un angelo di Dio, per udire il bene e il male; e il Signore Iddio tuo sarà teco.

And thy hand-maid said, May the word of my Lord the king now become [the means of giving] repose; for as an angel of God, so is my Lord the king to comprehend the good and the bad: and may the Lord thy God be with thee.

18 E il re rispose, e disse alla donna: Deh! non celarmi ciò che io ti domanderò. E la donna disse: Parli pure il re, mio signore.

Then answered the king and said unto the woman, Conceal not, I pray thee, from me a word concerning what I am going to ask thee. And the woman said, Let my Lord the king but speak.

19 E il re disse: Non ha Ioab tenuto mano a farti far tutto questo? E la donna rispose, e disse: [Come] l'anima tua vive, o re, mio signore, ei non si può sfuggire nè a destra, nè a sinistra, di cosa alcuna che il re, mio signore, ha detta; perciocchè Ioab, tuo servitore, [è] quel [che] mi ha ordinato [questo]; ed egli stesso ha poste in bocca alla tua servente tutte queste parole.

And the king said, Is not the hand of Joab with thee in all this? And the woman answered and said, As thy soul liveth, my Lord, O king! none can turn to the right or to the left from all that my Lord the king hath spoken; for it was thy servant Joab who hath bidden me, and it was he that hath put in the mouth of thy hand-maid all these words.

20 Ioab, tuo servitore, ha fatto questo per trasformare il negozio; ma il mio signore [è] savio come un angelo di Dio, per conoscer tutto quello che [si fa] in terra.

In order to change the appearance of the matter hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my Lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all that is [done] on the earth.

21 Allora il re disse a Ioab: Ecco, ora tu hai condotto questo affare; va' dunque, e fa' ritornare il giovane Absalom.

And the king said unto Joab, Behold, now, thou hast done this thing: go then, bring back the young man Abshalom.

22 E Ioab si gittò in terra sopra la sua faccia, e si prosternò, e benedisse il re, e disse: Oggi conosce il tuo servitore che io ho trovata grazia appo te, o re, mio signore; poichè il re ha fatto ciò che il suo servitore gli ha detto.

And Joab fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself, and blessed the king: and Joab said, Today is thy servant convinced that I have found grace in thy eyes, my Lord, O king; since the king hath acted in accordance with the word of thy servant.

23 Ioab adunque si levò, e andò in Ghesur, e [ne] menò Absalom in Gerusalemme.

And Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Abshalom to Jerusalem.

24 E il re disse: Riducasi a casa sua, e non vegga la mia faccia. Absalom adunque si ridusse a casa sua, e non vide la faccia del re.

And the king said, Let him repair to his own house, but my face he shall not see. So Abshalom repaired to his own house, but the king's face he did not see.

25 Ora in tutto Israele non vi era uomo alcuno che fosse pari ad Absalom in eccellente bellezza; non vi era in lui alcun difetto, dalla pianta del piè fino alla sommità del capo.

And like Abshalom there was no man as handsome in all Israel, so that he was greatly praised: from the sole of his foot up to the crown of his head there was no blemish on him.

26 E, quando egli si facea tondere il capo, il che facea ogni anno, perciocchè gli pesava troppo, egli pesava le chiome del suo capo, [ed erano di peso di] dugento sicli a peso del re.

And when he shaved off [the hair of] his head [and it was at the end of every year that he shaved it off; because it was too heavy on him, so that he had to shave it off: ] he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels by the king's weight.

27 E nacquero ad Absalom tre figliuoli, e una figliuola, il cui nome [era] Tamar; e fu una bella donna.

And there was born unto Abshalom three sons and one daughter, whose name was Thamar: this one was a woman of handsome appearance.

28 Ed Absalom dimorò in Gerusalemme due anni, senza vedere la faccia del re.

And Abshalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and the king's face he did not see.

29 Ed Absalom mandò per Ioab, per mandarlo al re. Ma egli non volle venire a lui. Ed [Absalom] mandò per lui ancora la seconda volta; ma egli non volle venire.

Abshalom sent out therefore for Joab, to send him to the king; but he would not come to him: and he sent again the second time; but he would not come.

30 Ed [Absalom] disse a' suoi servitori: Ecco il campo di Ioab, [ch'è] presso del mio, dove egli ha dell'orzo; andate, e mettetevi il fuoco. E i servitori di Absalom misero il fuoco in quel campo.

He thereupon said unto his servants, See, Joab's field is alongside of mine, and he hath barley there: go and set it on fire. And Abshalom's servants set the field on fire.

31 E Ioab si levò, e venne ad Absalom in casa, e gli disse: Perchè hanno i tuoi servitori messo il fuoco nel mio campo?

Then did Joab arise, and he went to Abshalom unto his house, and said unto him, Wherefore have thy servants set the field belonging to me on fire?

32 Ed Absalom disse a Ioab: Ecco, io ti avea mandato a dire: Vieni qua, ed io ti manderò al re, a dirgli: Perchè sono io venuto di Ghesur? meglio [sarebbe] per me che io vi [fossi] ancora; ora dunque fa' che io vegga la faccia del re; e se in me vi è alcuna iniquità, facciami morire.

And Abshalom said to Joab, Behold, I had sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it would be better for me were I yet there: and now let me see the king's face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him put me to death.

33 Ioab adunque venne al re, e gli rapportò [la cosa]. E [il re] chiamò Absalom; ed egli venne a lui, e si prosternò in terra davanti a lui sopra la sua faccia. E il re baciò Absalom.

So Joab went to the king, and told it to him: and he called for Abshalom, who came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king; and the king kissed Abshalom.
