2 Cronache 32

1 DOPO queste cose, e questa fedeltà, Sennacherib, re degli Assiri, venne, ed entrò in Giuda, e pose campo sopra le città forti, e deliberò di sforzarle, [per ridurle] sotto la sua ubbidienza.

After these things faithfully described, Saneherib King of Asshur came and entred into Iudah, and besieged the strong cities, and thought to winne them for him selfe.

2 Ed Ezechia, veduto che Sennacherib era venuto, e ch'egli [volgeva] la faccia contro a Gerusalemme, per combatterla;

When Hezekiah sawe that Saneherib was come, and that his purpose was to fight against Ierusalem,

3 si consigliò co' suoi principali ufficiali, e co' suoi uomini di valore, di turar le acque delle fonti ch'[erano] fuor della città; ed essi gli prestarono aiuto.

Then he tooke counsell with his princes and his nobles, to stoppe the water of the fountaines without the citie: and they did helpe him.

4 Ed un gran popolo si adunò, e turarono tutte le fonti, e il torrente che si spande per mezzo la contrada, dicendo: Perchè i re degli Assiri, venendo, troverebbero essi copia d'acque?

So many of the people assembled themselues, and stopt all the fountaines, and the riuer that ranne through the middes of the countrey, saying, Why should the Kings of Asshur come, and finde much water?

5 Egli prese eziandio animo di ristorar tutte le mura rotte, e le alzò fino alle torri; e di fuori [edificò] un altro muro. Egli fortificò ancora Millo, nella Città di Davide; e fece far dardi e scudi in gran quantità.

And he tooke courage, and built all the broken wall, and made vp the towers, and another wall without, and repayred Millo in the citie of Dauid, and made many dartes and shields.

6 Ed ordinò capitani di guerra sopra il popolo, e li adunò appresso di sè nella piazza della porta della città, e li confortò, dicendo:

And he set captaines of warre ouer the people, and assembled them to him in the broade place of the gate of the citie, and spake comfortably vnto them, saying,

7 Prendete animo, e fortificatevi; non temiate, e non vi spaventate per lo re degli Assiri, nè per tutta la moltitudine che [è] con lui; perciocchè con noi [v'è] uno maggiore che con lui.

Be strong and couragious: feare not, neither be afraide for the King of Asshur, neither for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with vs, then is with him.

8 Con lui [è] il braccio della carne; ma con noi [è] il Signore Iddio nostro, per aiutarci, e per combatter le nostre battaglie. E il popolo si rassicurò in su le parole di Ezechia, re di Giuda.

With him is an arme of flesh, but with vs is the Lord our God for to helpe vs, and to fight our battels. Then the people were confirmed by the wordes of Hezekiah King of Iudah.

9 Dopo questo, Sennacherib, re degli Assiri, essendo sopra Lachis con tutte [le forze del] suo imperio, mandò i suoi servitori in Gerusalemme ad Ezechia, re di Giuda, ed a tutti i Giudei ch'[erano] in Gerusalemme per dir [loro]:

After this, did Saneherib King of Asshur send his seruants to Ierusalem (while he was against Lachish, and all his dominion with him) vnto Hezekiah King of Iudah and vnto all Iudah that were at Ierusalem, saying,

10 Così ha detto Sennacherib, re degli Assiri: In che vi confidate voi, per dimorare in Gerusalemme nell'assedio?

Thus saith Saneherib the King of Asshur, Wherein doe ye trust, that ye will remaine in Ierusalem, during the siege?

11 Ezechia non vi seduce egli, per ridurvi a morir di fame e di sete, dicendo: Il Signore Iddio nostro ci salverà dalla mano del re degli Assiri?

Doeth not Hezekiah entice you to giue ouer your selues vnto death by famine and by thirst, saying, The Lord our God shall deliuer vs out of the hande of the King of Asshur?

12 Non ha esso Ezechia tolti via gli alti luoghi, e gli altari di esso [Signore], e detto a Giuda e a Gerusalemme: Adorate solo davanti ad un Altare, e fate sopra esso ardere i vostri sacrificii?

Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his hie places and his altars, and commanded Iudah and Ierusalem, saying, Ye shall worshippe before one altar, and burne incense vpon it?

13 Non sapete voi quello che io ed i miei padri abbiam fatto a tutti i popoli de' paesi? gl'iddii delle genti dei paesi hanno eglino giammai potuto salvare il lor paese dalla mia mano?

Knowe ye not what I and my fathers haue done vnto all the people of other countreyes? were the gods of the nations of other landes able to deliuer their land out of mine hande?

14 Quale, d'infra tutti gl'iddii di quelle genti che i miei padri hanno distrutte, ha potuto salvare il suo popolo dalla mia mano, che l'Iddio vostro ve ne possa salvare?

Who is he of al the gods of those natios (that my fathers haue destroied) that could deliuer his people out of mine hande? that your God should be able to deliuer you out of mine hand?

15 Ora dunque Ezechia non v'inganni, e non vi seduca in questa maniera; e [voi] non gli prestate fede; perciocchè [poichè] alcun dio d'alcuna gente, o regno, non ha potuto salvare il suo popolo dalla mia mano, nè dalla mano de' miei padri, quanto meno vi salverà l'Iddio vostro dalla mia mano?

Nowe therefore let not Hezekiah deceiue you, nor seduce you after this sort, neither beleeue ye him: for none of all the gods of any nation or kingdome was able to deliuer his people out of mine hande and out of the hande of my fathers: howe much lesse shall your gods deliuer you out of mine hande?

16 Ed i servitori di esso dissero ancora molte altre cose contro al Signore Iddio, e contro ad Ezechia, suo servitore.

And his seruants spake yet more against the Lord God, and against his seruant Hezekiah.

17 [Sennacherib] scrisse oltre a ciò lettere, per ischernire il Signore Iddio di Israele, e per parlar contro a lui in questa maniera: Siccome gl'iddii delle genti de' paesi non hanno salvati i lor popoli dalla mia mano, così anche l'Iddio di Ezechia non salverà il suo.

He wrote also letters, blaspheming the Lord God of Israel and speaking against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other countreies could not deliuer their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliuer his people out of mine hande.

18 [Quei servitori] gridarono ancora ad alta voce, in lingua giudaica, al popolo di Gerusalemme, ch'[era] in su le mura, per ispaventarlo, e per conturbarlo; per prendere [in questa maniera] la città.

Then they cryed with a loude voyce in the Iewes speach vnto the people of Ierusalem that were on the wall, to feare them and to astonish them, that they might take the citie.

19 E parlarono dell'Iddio di Gerusalemme, come degl'iddii de' popoli della terra, [che sono] opera di mani d'uomini.

Thus they spake against the God of Ierusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, euen the workes of mans hands,

20 Allora il re Ezechia, e il profeta Isaia, figliuolo d'Amos, fecero orazione per queste cose, e gridarono verso il cielo.

But Hezekiah the King, and the Prophet Isaiah the sonne of Amoz prayed against this and cryed to heauen.

21 E il Signore mandò un Angelo, il quale distrusse ogni valente uomo, ed ogni capo e capitano [ch'era] nel campo del re degli Assiri; laonde egli se ne ritornò svergognato al suo paese. Ed essendo entrato nella casa de' suoi dii, di quelli che erano usciti delle sue interiora, l'uccisero quivi con la spada.

And the Lord sent an Angel which destroyed all the valiant men, and the princes and captaines of the hoste of the King of Asshur: so he returned with shame to his owne lande. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came foorth of his owne bowels, slewe him there with the sworde.

22 Così il Signore salvò Ezechia, e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, dalla mano di Sennacherib, re degli Assiri, e dalla mano d'ogni [altro]; e li sollevò d'ogn'intorno.

So the Lord saued Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Ierusalem from the hande of Saneherib King of Asshur, and from the hande of all other, and maintained them on euery side.

23 E molti portavano offerte al Signore in Gerusalemme, e cose preziose ad Ezechia, re di Giuda. E dopo queste cose, egli fu innalzato appresso tutte le nazioni.

And many brought offrings vnto the Lord to Ierusalem, and presents to Hezekiah King of Iudah, so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thencefoorth.

24 IN que' giorni, Ezechia infermò fino alla morte; ma egli fece orazione al Signore; ed esso gli parlò, e gli diede un segno.

In those dayes Hezekiah was sicke vnto the death, and prayed vnto the Lord, who spake vnto him, and gaue him a signe.

25 Ma Ezechia non fu riconoscente del beneficio ricevuto; perciocchè il suo cuore s'innalzò; laonde vi fu indegnazione contro a lui, contro a Giuda, e contro a Gerusalemme.

But Hezekiah did not render according to the rewarde bestowed vpon him: for his heart was lift vp, and wrath came vpon him, and vpon Iudah and Ierusalem.

26 Ma pure Ezechia, con gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, si umiliò di ciò che il suo cuore si era innalzato; e per ciò l'indegnazione del Signore non venne sopra loro al tempo d'Ezechia.

Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled him selfe (after that his heart was lifted vp) he and the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and the wrath of the Lord came not vpon them in the dayes of Hezekiah.

27 Ezechia dunque ebbe grandissime ricchezze e gloria; e si fece de' tesori d'argento, e d'oro, e di pietre preziose, e d'aromati, e di scudi, e [d'ogni sorta] di cari arredi.

Hezekiah also had exceeding much riches and honour, and he gate him treasures of siluer, and of golde, and of precious stones, and of sweete odours, and of shieldes, and of all pleasant vessels:

28 [Fece] ancora de' magazzini per l'entrata del grano, e del vino, e dell'olio; e delle stalle, per ogni [sorta di] grosso bestiame; e delle mandre presso di quelle.

And of store houses for the increase of wheat and wine and oyle, and stalles for all beasts, and rowes for the stables.

29 Si fece eziandio delle città; ed [acquistò] molto bestiame, minuto e grosso; perciocchè Iddio gli avea date grandissime ricchezze.

And he made him cities, and had possession of sheepe and oxen in abundance: for God had giuen him substance exceeding much.

30 Ezechia fu eziandio quello che turò la fonte alta delle acque di Ghihon, e condusse quell'[acqua] per diritto sotto terra, dall'Occidente alla città di Davide. Ed Ezechia prosperò in tutte le sue opere.

This same Hezekiah also stopped the vpper water springs of Gihon, and led them streight vnderneath towarde the citie of Dauid Westwarde. so Hezekiah prospered in all his workes.

31 E in questo stato, [essendo lui] con gli ambasciatori de' principi di Babilonia, i quali aveano mandato a lui per informarsi del miracolo ch'era avvenuto in terra, Iddio lo lasciò, per far prova di lui, per conoscer tutto [ciò ch'egli avea] nel cuor suo.

But because of the ambassadours of the princes of Babel, which sent vnto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the lande, God left him to trie him, and to knowe all that was in his heart.

32 Ora, quant'è al rimanente de' fatti di Ezechia, e le sue pie opere; ecco, queste [cose sono] scritte nella visione del profeta Isaia, figliuolo di Amos, [e] nel libro dei re di Giuda, e d'Israele.

Concerning the rest of the actes of Hezekiah, and his goodnesse, beholde, they are written in the vision of Ishiah the Prophet, the sonne of Amoz, in the booke of the Kings of Iudah and Israel.

33 Poi Ezechia giacque co' suoi padri, e fu seppellito nel più alto delle sepolture de' figliuoli di Davide. E tutto Giuda, e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, gli fecero onore alla sua morte. E Manasse, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo.

So Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buryed him in the highest sepulchre of the sonnes of Dauid: and all Iudah and the inhabitants of Ierusalem did him honour at his death: and Manasseh his sonne reigned in his stead.
