2 Cronache 26

1 ALLORA tutto il popolo di Giuda prese Uzzia, il quale [era] d'età di sedici anni, e lo costituì re, in luogo di Amasia, suo padre.

And all the people of Judah took 'Uzziyahu, who was then sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amazyahu.

2 Egli edificò Elot, e la racquistò a Giuda dopo che il re fu giaciuto co' suoi padri.

He it was that built Eloth, and brought it back to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers.

3 Uzzia [era] d'età di sedici anni quando cominciò a regnare; e regnò cinquantadue anni in Gerusalemme. E il nome di sua madre [era] Iecolia, da Gerusalemme.

Sixteen years old was 'Uzziyahu when he became king, and fifty and two years did he reign in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Yecholyah of Jerusalem.

4 Ed egli fece ciò che piace al Signore; interamente come avea fatto Amasia, suo padre.

And he did what is right in the eyes of the Lord, in accordance with all that his father Amazyahu had done.

5 E si diede a ricercare Iddio, mentre visse Zaccaria, uomo intendente nelle visioni di Dio; e mentre egli ricercò il Signore, Iddio lo fece prosperare.

And he was [inclined] to seek God in the days of Zecharyahu, who had understanding in the visions of God; and during the time that he sought the Lord, God caused him to prosper.

6 Ed egli uscì, e fece guerra co' Filistei, e fece delle rotture nelle mura di Gat, e nelle mura di Iabne, e nelle mura di Asdod; ed edificò delle città nel [paese di] Asdod, e degli [altri] Filistei.

And he went forth and made war against the Philistines, and he broke down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in [the country of] Ashdod, and among the Philistines.

7 E Iddio gli diede aiuto contro a' Filistei, e contro agli Arabi che abitavano in Gurbaal, e contro a' Maoniti.

And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gur-ba'al, and the Me'unim.

8 Gli Ammoniti eziandio davano presenti ad Uzzia; e il suo nome andò fino in Egitto; perciocchè egli si fece sommamente potente.

And the 'Ammonites gave presents to 'Uzziyahu: and his name extended even to the entrance of Egypt; for he became exceedingly strong.

9 Uzzia edificò ancora delle torri in Gerusaelemme, alla porta del cantone, e alla porta della valle, ed al cantone; e le fortificò.

And 'Uzziyahu built towers in Jerusalem, above the corner-gate, and above the valley-gate, and at the angle, and made them strong.

10 Edificò ancora delle torri nel deserto e [vi] cavò molti pozzi; perciocchè egli avea gran quantitià di bestiame, [come] anche nella campagna, e nella pianura; [avea eziandio] de' lavoratori, e dei vignaiuoli ne' monti, ed in Carmel; perciocchè egli amava l'agricoltura.

He built also towers in the desert, and hewed out many wells; for he had much cattle, both in the lowlands and in the plain; [also] husbandmen, and vintners in the mountains, and in Carmel; for he loved husbandry.

11 Ed Uzzia avea un esercito di gente di guerra, che andava alla guerra per ischiere, secondo il numero della lor rassegna, [fatta] per mano di Ieiel segretario, e di Maaseia commessario, sotto la condotta di Hanania, l'uno de' capitani del re.

Moreover 'Uzziyah had an army of fighting men, that went out to the host by bands, according to the number of those mustered of them through the hand of Je'iel the scribe and Ma'asseyahu the overseer, under the supervision of Chananyahu, one of the king's captains.

12 Tutto il numero de' capi della gente di valore, [distinta] per famiglie paterne, [era di] duemila seicento.

The whole number of the chiefs of the family divisions of the mighty men of valor was two thousand and six hundred.

13 Ed [essi aveano] sotto la lor condotta un esercito di trecensettemila cinquecento prodi e valorosi guerrieri, per soccorrere il re contro al nemico.

And under their supervision was an efficient army, [of] three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.

14 Ed Uzzia preparò a tutto quell'esercito scudi, e lance, ed elmi, e corazze, ed archi, e frombole a trar pietre.

And 'Uzziyahu prepared for them, for all the host, shields, and spears, and helmets, and coats of mail, and bows, and stones for slinging.

15 Fece, oltre a ciò, in Gerusalemme degl'ingegni d'arte d'ingegnere, per metterli sopra le torri, e sopra i canti, per trar saette e pietre grosse. E la sua fama andò lungi perciocchè egli fu maravigliosamente soccorso, finchè fu fortificato.

And he made in Jerusalem artificial contrivances, contrived by a skilful man, to be [stationed] on the towers and upon the ramparts, to shoot off arrows and great stones. And his name extended ever so far abroad; for he was marvelously assisted, till he became strong.

16 Ma quando egli fu fortificato, il cuor suo s'innalzò, fino a corrompersi; e commise misfatto contro al Signore Iddio suo, ed entrò nel Tempio del Signore, per far profumo sopra l'altar de' profumi.

But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction; and he became unfaithful against the Lord his God, and went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

17 Ma il sacerdote Azaria entrò dietro a lui, avendo seco ottanta sacerdoti del Signore, uomini valenti;

And there went in after him 'Azaryahu the priest, and with him were priests of the Lord, valiant men, [to the number of] eighty;

18 ed essi si opposero al re Uzzia, e gli dissero: Non [istà] a te, o Uzzia, il far profumo al Signore; anzi a' sacerdoti, figliuoli di Aaronne, che son consacrati per far profumi; esci fuori del Santuario; perciocchè tu hai misfatto, e [ciò] non [ti tornerà] in gloria da parte del Signore Iddio.

And they stood forward against king 'Uzziyahu, and they said unto him, It is not for thee, O 'Uzziyahu, to burn incense unto the Lord, but for the priests the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; and it will not be for thy honor from the Lord God.

19 Allora Uzzia si adirò, avendo in mano il profumo da incensare; ma mentre si adirava contro a' sacerdoti, la lebbra gli nacque in su la fronte in presenza dei sacerdoti nella Casa del Signore, d'in su l'altar de' profumi.

But 'Uzziyahu became wroth, and in his hand was a censer to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even broke out on his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, above the altar of the incense.

20 E il sommo sacerdote Azaria, e tutti i sacerdoti lo riguardarono, ed ecco, egli [era] lebbroso nella fronte; ed essi lo fecero prestamente uscir di là; ed egli ancora si gittò [fuori] per uscire; perciocchè il Signore l'avea percosso.

And when 'Azaryahu the chief priest, with all the priests, turned about toward him, behold, he was leprous on his forehead, and they hurried him away from there: yea, he also made haste to go out, because the Lord had afflicted him.

21 E il re Uzzia fu lebbroso fino al giorno della sua morte, ed abitò [così] lebbroso in una casa in disparte; perciocchè fu separato della Casa del Signore; e Iotam, suo figliuolo, [era] mastro del palazzo reale, e rendeva ragione al popolo del paese.

And king 'Uzziyahu was a leper until the day of his death, and dwelt in the leper-house, as a leper; for he was excluded from the house of the Lord: and Jotham his son was over the king's house, [and] judged the people of the land.

22 Ora, quant'è al rimanente de' fatti di Uzzia, primi ed ultimi, il profeta Isaia, figliuolo di Amos, li ha descritti.

And the rest of the acts of 'Uzziyahu, the first and the last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amos write.

23 Ed Uzzia giacque co' suoi padri e fu seppellito co' suoi padri nel campo delle sepolture dei re; perciocchè fu detto: Egli [è] lebbroso. E Iotam, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo.

And 'Uzziyahu slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the burial-field which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son became king in his stead.
