2 Cronache 11

1 Roboamo adunque essendo giunto in Gerusalemme, raunò la casa di Giuda e di Beniamino [in numero di] centottantamila uomini di guerra scelti, per combattere contro ad Israele, per ridurre il regno sotto [l'ubbidienza di] Roboamo.

And when Rehobo'am was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring back the kingdom again to Rehobo'am.

2 Ma la parola del Signore fu [indirizzata] a Semaia, uomo di Dio, dicendo:

But the word of the Lord came unto Shema'yahu the man of God, saying,

3 Di' a Roboamo, figliuolo di Salomone, re di Giuda, ed a tutti gl'Israeliti, [che sono] in Giuda ed in Beniamino:

Say unto Rehobo'am the son of Solomon, the king of Judah and Benjamin, saying,

4 Così ha detto il Signore: Non salite, e non combattete contro a' vostri fratelli; ritornatevene ciascuno a casa sua; perciocchè questa cosa è proceduta da me. Ed essi ubbidirono alle parole del Signore, e se ne ritornarono, senza andare contro a Geroboamo.

Thus hath said the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight with your brethren: return every man to his house; for from me hath this thing been brought about. And they hearkened to the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jerobo'am.

5 E ROBOAMO abitò in Gerusalemme, ed edificò delle città in Giuda per fortezze.

And Rehobo'am dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities as fortresses in Judah.

6 Ed edificò Bet-lehem, ed Etam, e Tecoa,

He built, namely, Beth-lechem, and 'Etam, and Thekoa'.

7 e Bet-sur, e Soco, ed Adullam,

And Beth-zur, and Socho, and 'Adullam,

8 e Gat, e Maresa, e Zif,

And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

9 ed Adoraim, e Lachis, ed Azeca,

And Adorayim and Lachish, and 'Azekah,

10 e Sora, ed Aialon, ed Hebron, [ch'erano] città forti in Giuda ed in Beniamino.

And Zor'ah, and Ayalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

11 Così fortificò queste fortezze, e vi mise de' capitani, e de' magazzini di vittuaglia, e d'olio e di vino.

And he strengthened the strong-holds, and put commanders in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine;

12 E in ciascuna città [mise] degli scudi e delle lance; e le fortificò grandemente. Così Giuda e Beniamino furono a lui.

And in each and every city [he placed] shields and spears, and made them exceedingly strong: and thus remained with him Judah and Benjamin.

13 Or i sacerdoti ed i Leviti ch'[erano] in tutto [il paese d]'Israele si ridussero appresso di lui da tutte le lor contrade.

And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel presented themselves to him out of all their territory.

14 Perciocchè i Leviti lasciarono i lor contadi, e le lor possessioni, ed andarono in Giuda ed in Gerusalemme; perciocchè Geroboamo ed i suoi figliuoli li scacciarono, acciocchè non esercitassero più il sacerdozio al Signore.

For the Levites left their open districts and their possession, and went to Judah and Jerusalem; because Jerobo'am and his sons cast them off from executing the priest's office unto the Lord,

15 E [Geroboamo] si costituì de' sacerdoti per gli alti luoghi, e per li demoni, e per li vitelli ch'egli fece.

And [because] he ordained for himself priests for the high-places, and for the evil spirits, and for the calves which he had made.

16 E, dopo que' Leviti, quelli d'infra tutte le tribù d'Israele che disposero l'animo loro a cercare il Signore Iddio d'Israele, vennero in Gerusalemme, per sacrificare al Signore Iddio de' lor padri;

And after them [came] out of all the tribes of Israel such as directed their heart to seek the Lord the God of Israel: these came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord, the God of their fathers.

17 e fortificarono il regno di Giuda, e rinforzarono Roboamo, figliuolo di Salomone, per lo spazio di tre anni; perciocchè camminarono nella via di Davide e di Salomone, lo spazio di tre anni.

And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and brought power to Rehobo'am, the son of Solomon, during three years; for they walked in the way of David and Solomon during three years.

18 Or Roboamo si prese per moglie Mahalat, figliuola di Ierimot, figliuolo di Davide, [ed] Abihail, figliuola di Eliab, figliuolo d'Isai;

And Rehobo'am took himself as wife Machalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, [and] Abichayil the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

19 la quale gli partorì [questi] figliuoli, [cioè: ] Ieus, e Semaria, e Zaham.

And she bore to him sons: Je'ush, and Shamaryah, and Zaham.

20 E, dopo lei, prese Maaca, figliuola di Absalom, la quale gli partorì Abia, ed Attai, e Ziza, e Selomit.

And after her did he take Ma'achah the daughter of Abshalom; and she bore to him Abiyah, and 'Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

21 E Roboamo amò Maaca, figliuola di Absalom, sopra tutte le sue [altre] mogli e concubine; conciossiachè egli avesse prese diciotto mogli, e sessanta concubine; onde generò ventotto figliuoli, e sessanta figliuole.

And Rehobo'am loved Ma'achah the daughter of Abshalom more than all his wives and his concubines; for he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines; and he begat twenty and eight sons, and sixty daughters.

22 E Roboamo costituì Abia, figliuolo di Maaca, per capo [della sua casa], per principe sopra i suoi fratelli; perciocchè [intendeva] di farlo re.

And Rehobo'am appointed Abiyah the son of Ma'achah to be the chief, to be ruler among his brethren; because [he desired] to make him king.

23 E prudentemente si avvisò di dispergere tutti i suoi figliuoli per tutte le contrade di Giuda e di Beniamino, per tutte le città forti; ed assegnò loro da vivere abbondantemente, e procacciò [loro] molte mogli.

And he dealt understandingly, and dispersed all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto all the fortified cities; and he gave them food in abundance and he required [for them] a multitude of wives.
