1 Samuele 13

1 SAULLE avea regnato un anno, [quando queste cose avvennero]; e poi, dopo aver regnato due anni sopra Israele,

And Saul chooses for himself three thousand men of the men of Israel: and there were with Saul two thousand who were in Machmas, and in mount Baethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gabaa of Benjamin: and he sent the rest of the people every man to his tent.

2 scelse tremila uomini d'Israele; de' quali duemila stettero con lui in Micmas, e nel monte di Betel, e mille con Gionatan, in Ghibea di Beniamino; e rimandò il rimanente del popolo, ciascuno alle sue stanze.

3 E Gionatan percosse la guernigione de' Filistei ch'[era] nel colle; e i Filistei l'intesero. E Saulle fece sonar la tromba per tutto il paese, dicendo: Odano gli Ebrei.

And Jonathan smote Nasib the Philistine that dwelt in the hill; and the Philistines hear of it, and Saul sounds the trumpet through all the land, saying, The servants have despised [us].

4 E tutto Israele udì dire: Saulle ha percossa la guernigione de' Filistei, ed anche Israele è diventato abbominevole fra i Filistei. E il popolo fu adunato a grida in Ghilgal, per seguitare Saulle.

And all Israel heard say, Saul has smitten Nasib the Philistine; now Israel had been put to shame before the Philistines; and the children of Israel went up after Saul in Galgala.

5 I Filistei si adunarono anch'essi per guerreggiare contro ad Israele, [avendo] trentamila carri, e seimila cavalieri, e della gente in moltitudine, come la rena che [è] in sul lito del mare. E salirono, e si accamparono in Micmas, verso l'Oriente di Bet-aven.

And the Philistines gather together to war with Israel; and then come up against Israel thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand by the seashore for multitude: and they come up, and encamp in Machmas, opposite Baethoron southward.

6 Ora gl'Israeliti, veggendosi distretti, perciocchè il popolo era oppressato, si nascosero nelle spelonche, e per li greppi de' monti, e nelle rupi, e nelle rocche, e nelle grotte.

And the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait so that they could not draw nigh, and the people hid themselves in caves, and sheepfolds, and rocks, and ditches, and pits.

7 E gli [altri] Ebrei passarono di là dal Giordano al paese di Gad e di Galaad. E Saulle non si moveva di Ghilgal, e tutto il popolo che lo seguitava era impaurito.

And they that went over went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Galaad: and Saul was yet in Galgala, and all the people followed after him in amazement.

8 Ed egli aspettò sette giorni, secondo il termine [posto] da Samuele; e Samuele non veniva in Ghilgal; laonde il popolo si dispergeva d'appresso a Saulle.

And he continued seven days for the appointed testimony, as Samuel told him, and Samuel came not to Galgala, and his people were dispersed from him.

9 Allora Saulle disse: Adducetemi l'olocausto, e i sacrificii da render grazie. Ed egli offerse l'olocausto.

And Saul said, Bring hither [victims], that I may offer whole-burnt-offerings and peace-offerings: and he offered the whole-burnt-offering.

10 E, come egli forniva d'offerir l'olocausto, ecco, Samuele arrivò; e Saulle gli uscì incontro, per salutarlo.

And it came to pass when he had finished offering the whole-burnt-offering, that Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to meet him, [and] to bless him.

11 Ma Samuele [gli] disse: Che hai fatto? E Saulle [gli] rispose: Perciocchè io vedeva che il popolo si dispergeva d'appresso a me, e che tu non venivi al termine posto de' giorni, e che i Filistei erano adunati in Micmas, io dissi:

And Samuel said, What hast thou done? and Saul said, Because I saw how the people were scattered from me, and thou was not present as thou purposedst according to the set time of the days, and the Philistines were gathered to Machmas.

12 I Filistei verranno ora contro a me in Ghilgal, ed io non ho supplicato al Signore; laonde, dopo essermi rattenuto quant'ho potuto, io ho offerto l'olocausto.

Then I said, Now will the Philistines come down to me to Galgala, and I have not sought the face of the Lord: so I forced myself and offered the whole-burnt-offering.

13 Allora Samuele disse a Saulle: Tu hai follemente fatto, non avendo osservato il comandamento del Signore Iddio tuo, il quale egli ti avea dato; perciocchè il Signore avrebbe ora stabilito il tuo regno sopra Israele, in perpetuo.

And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly; for thou hast not kept my command, which the Lord commanded thee, as now the Lord would have confirmed thy kingdom over Israel for ever.

14 Ma ora il tuo regno non sarà stabile; il Signore s'è cercato un uomo secondo il cuor suo, il quale egli ha ordinato per conduttore sopra il suo popolo; poichè tu non hai osservato quello che il Signore ti avea comandato.

But now thy kingdom shall not stand to thee, and the Lord shall seek for himself a man after his own heart; and the Lord shall appoint him to be a ruler over his people, because thou hast not kept all that the Lord commanded thee.

15 Poi Samuele si levò, e salì da Ghilgal in Ghibea di Beniamino. E Saulle fece la rassegna della gente che si ritrovava con lui, [ch'era] d'intorno a seicent'uomini.

And Samuel arose, and departed from Galgala, and the remnant of the people went after Saul to meet [him] after the men of war, when they had come out of Galgala to Gabaa of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were found with him, about six hundred men.

16 Or Saulle, e Gionatan suo figliuolo, e il popolo che si ritrovava con loro, se ne stavano in Ghibea di Beniamino; e i Filistei erano accampati in Micmas.

And Saul and Jonathan his son, and the people that were found with them, halted in Gabaa, of Benjamin; and they wept: and the Philistines had encamped in Machmas.

17 E del campo de' Filistei uscì della gente in tre schiere, da fare il guasto; l'una delle quali si voltò al cammino di Ofra, [traendo] verso il paese di Saulle;

And men came forth to destroy out of the land of the Philistines in three companies; one company turning by the way of Gophera toward the land of Sogal,

18 l'altra si voltò alla via di Bet-horon; e la terza si voltò alla via del confine del paese che riguarda su la valle di Seboim, verso il deserto.

and another company turning the way of Baethoron, and another company turning by the way of Gabae that turns aside to Gai of Sabim.

19 (Or non si trovava alcun fabbro in tutto il paese d'Israele; perciocchè i Filistei aveano detto: [Provvediamo] che gli Ebrei non facciano spade nè lance.

And there was not found a smith in all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make themselves sword or spear.

20 E tutto Israele scendeva a' Filistei, per aguzzare, chi il suo vomero, chi la sua zappa, chi la sua scure, chi la sua vanga.

And all Israel went down to the Land of the Philistines to forge every one his reaping-hook and his tool, and every one his axe and his sickle.

21 E si servivano di lime per le vanghe, e per le zappe, e per li tridenti, e per le scuri, e per acconciare fino ad un pungolo.

And it was near the time of vintage: and their tools were [valued at] three shekels for a plough-share, and there was the same rate for the axe and the sickle.

22 Laonde, al giorno della battaglia, avvenne che non si trovò nè spada, nè lancia, nelle mani d'alcuno del popolo[ch'era] con Saulle e con Gionatan; sol se ne trovò a Saulle, e a Gionatan, suo figliuolo.)

And it came to pass in the days of the war of Machmas, that there was not a sword or spear found in the hand of all the people, that were with Saul and Jonathan; but with Saul and Jonathan his son was there found.

23 Poi la guernigione de' Filistei uscì fuori verso il passo di Micmas.

And there went out some from the camp of the Philistines to the place beyond Machmas.
