Salmi 55

1 Al maestro del coro. Per strumenti a corda. Maskil. Di Davide. Porgi l'orecchio, Dio, alla mia preghiera, non respingere la mia supplica;

To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of David. Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.

2 dammi ascolto e rispondimi, mi agito nel mio lamento e sono sconvolto

Attend to me, and hear me: I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise;

3 al grido del nemico, al clamore dell'empio. Contro di me riversano sventura, mi perseguitano con furore.

Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.

4 Dentro di me freme il mio cuore, piombano su di me terrori di morte.

My heart is greatly pained within me: and the terrors of death have fallen upon me.

5 Timore e spavento mi invadono e lo sgomento mi opprime.

Fearfulness and trembling have come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.

6 Dico: «Chi mi darà ali come di colomba, per volare e trovare riposo?

And I said, O that I had wings like a dove! for then I would fly away, and be at rest.

7 Ecco, errando, fuggirei lontano, abiterei nel deserto.

Lo, then I would wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. (Selah)

8 Riposerei in un luogo di riparo dalla furia del vento e dell'uragano».

I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.

9 Disperdili, Signore, confondi le loro lingue: ho visto nella città violenza e contese.

Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

10 Giorno e notte si aggirano sulle sue mura,

Day and night they go about her upon her walls: mischief also and sorrow are in her midst.

11 all'interno iniquità, travaglio e insidie e non cessano nelle sue piazze sopruso e inganno.

Wickedness is in her midst: deceit and guile depart not from her streets.

12 Se mi avesse insultato un nemico, l'avrei sopportato; se fosse insorto contro di me un avversario, da lui mi sarei nascosto.

For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that magnified himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:

13 Ma sei tu, mio compagno, mio amico e confidente;

But it was thou, a man my equal, my guide, and my acquaintance.

14 ci legava una dolce amicizia, verso la casa di Dio camminavamo in festa.

We took sweet counsel together, and walked to the house of God in company.

15 Piombi su di loro la morte, scendano vivi negli inferi; perché il male è nelle loro case, e nel loro cuore. (Sheol h7585)

Let death seize upon them, and let them go down alive into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them. (Sheol h7585)

16 Io invoco Dio e il Signore mi salva.

As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.

17 Di sera, al mattino, a mezzogiorno mi lamento e sospiro ed egli ascolta la mia voce;

Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.

18 mi salva, mi dà pace da coloro che mi combattono: sono tanti i miei avversari.

He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.

19 Dio mi ascolta e li umilia, egli che domina da sempre. Per essi non c'è conversione e non temono Dio.

God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. (Selah) Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.

20 Ognuno ha steso la mano contro i suoi amici, ha violato la sua alleanza.

He hath put forth his hands against such as are at peace with him: he hath broken his covenant.

21 Più untuosa del burro è la sua bocca, ma nel cuore ha la guerra; più fluide dell'olio le sue parole, ma sono spade sguainate.

The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.

22 Getta sul Signore il tuo affanno ed egli ti darà sostegno, mai permetterà che il giusto vacilli.

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never allow the righteous to be moved.

23 Tu, Dio, li sprofonderai nella tomba gli uomini sanguinari e fraudolenti: essi non giungeranno alla metà dei loro giorni. Ma io, Signore, in te confido.

But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.
