Salmi 44

1 Al maestro del coro. Dei figli di Core. Maskil. Dio, con i nostri orecchi abbiamo udito, i nostri padri ci hanno raccontato l'opera che hai compiuto ai loro giorni, nei tempi antichi.

For the chief musician. A psalm of the sons of Korah. A maschil. We have heard with our ears, God, our fathers have told us what work you did in their days, in the days of old.

2 Tu per piantarli, con la tua mano hai sradicato le genti, per far loro posto, hai distrutto i popoli.

You drove out the nations with your hand, but you planted our people; you afflicted the peoples, but you spread our people out in the land.

3 Poiché non con la spada conquistarono la terra, né fu il loro braccio a salvarli; ma il tuo braccio e la tua destra e la luce del tuo volto, perché tu li amavi.

For they did not obtain the land for their possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them; but your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, because you were favorable to them.

4 Sei tu il mio re, Dio mio, che decidi vittorie per Giacobbe.

God, You are my King; command victory for Jacob.

5 Per te abbiamo respinto i nostri avversari nel tuo nome abbiamo annientato i nostri aggressori.

Through you we will push down our adversaries; through your name we will tread them under, those who rise up against us.

6 Infatti nel mio arco non ho confidato e non la mia spada mi ha salvato,

For I will not trust in my bow, neither will my sword save me.

7 ma tu ci hai salvati dai nostri avversari, hai confuso i nostri nemici.

But you have saved us from our adversaries, and have put to shame those who hate us.

8 In Dio ci gloriamo ogni giorno, celebrando senza fine il tuo nome.

In God we have made our boast all the day long, and we will give thanks to your name forever. (Selah)

9 Ma ora ci hai respinti e coperti di vergogna, e più non esci con le nostre schiere.

But now you have thrown us off and brought us dishonor, and you do not go out with our armies.

10 Ci hai fatti fuggire di fronte agli avversari e i nostri nemici ci hanno spogliati.

You make us turn back from the adversary; and those who hate us take spoil for themselves.

11 Ci hai consegnati come pecore da macello, ci hai dispersi in mezzo alle nazioni.

You have made us like sheep to be slaughtered and have scattered us among the nations.

12 Hai venduto il tuo popolo per niente, sul loro prezzo non hai guadagnato.

You sell your people for nothing; you have not increased your wealth by doing so.

13 Ci hai resi ludibrio dei nostri vicini, scherno e obbrobrio a chi ci sta intorno.

You make us a rebuke to our neighbors, scoffed and mocked by those around us.

14 Ci hai resi la favola dei popoli, su di noi le nazioni scuotono il capo.

You make us an insult among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.

15 L'infamia mi sta sempre davanti e la vergogna copre il mio volto

All the day long my dishonor is before me, and the shame of my face has covered me

16 per la voce di chi insulta e bestemmia, davanti al nemico che brama vendetta.

because of the voice of him who rebukes and insults, because of the enemy and the avenger.

17 Tutto questo ci è accaduto e non ti avevamo dimenticato, non avevamo tradito la tua alleanza.

All this has come on us; yet we have not forgotten you or dealt falsely with your covenant.

18 Non si era volto indietro il nostro cuore, i nostri passi non avevano lasciato il tuo sentiero;

Our heart has not turned back; our steps have not gone from your way.

19 ma tu ci hai abbattuti in un luogo di sciacalli e ci hai avvolti di ombre tenebrose.

Yet you have severely broken us in the place of jackals and covered us with the shadow of death.

20 Se avessimo dimenticato il nome del nostro Dio e teso le mani verso un dio straniero,

If we have forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a strange god,

21 forse che Dio non lo avrebbe scoperto, lui che conosce i segreti del cuore?

would not God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.

22 Per te ogni giorno siamo messi a morte, stimati come pecore da macello.

Indeed, for your sake we are being killed all day long; we are considered to be sheep for the slaughter.

23 Svègliati, perché dormi, Signore? Dèstati, non ci respingere per sempre.

Awake, why do you sleep, Lord? Arise, do not throw us off permanently.

24 Perché nascondi il tuo volto, dimentichi la nostra miseria e oppressione?

Why do you hide your face and forget our affliction and our oppression?

25 Poiché siamo prostrati nella polvere, il nostro corpo è steso a terra. Sorgi, vieni in nostro aiuto;

For we have melted away into the dust; our bodies cling to the earth.

26 salvaci per la tua misericordia.

Rise up for our help and redeem us for the sake of your covenant faithfulness.
