Matteo 5
1 Vedendo le folle, Gesù salì sulla montagna e, messosi a sedere, gli si avvicinarono i suoi discepoli.
Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. When he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
2 Prendendo allora la parola, li ammaestrava dicendo:
He opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
3 «Beati i poveri in spirito, perché di essi è il regno dei cieli.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit! for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven (God).
4 Beati gli afflitti, perché saranno consolati.
Blessed are those who mourn! for they shall be comforted.
5 Beati i miti, perché erediteranno la terra.
Blessed are the meek! for they shall inherit the Land.
6 Beati quelli che hanno fame e sete della giustizia, perché saranno saziati.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness! For they shall be filled.
7 Beati i misericordiosi, perché troveranno misericordia.
Blessed are the merciful! for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Beati i puri di cuore, perché vedranno Dio.
Blessed are the pure in heart! for they shall see God.
9 Beati gli operatori di pace, perché saranno chiamati figli di Dio.
Blessed are the peacemakers! for they shall be called children of God.
10 Beati i perseguitati per causa della giustizia, perché di essi è il regno dei cieli.
Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake! for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven (God).
11 Beati voi quando vi insulteranno, vi perseguiteranno e, mentendo, diranno ogni sorta di male contro di voi per causa mia.
“Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rallegratevi ed esultate, perché grande è la vostra ricompensa nei cieli. Così infatti hanno perseguitato i profeti prima di voi.
Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
13 Voi siete il sale della terra; ma se il sale perdesse il sapore, con che cosa lo si potrà render salato? A null'altro serve che ad essere gettato via e calpestato dagli uomini.
“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.
14 Voi siete la luce del mondo; non può restare nascosta una città collocata sopra un monte,
You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden.
15 né si accende una lucerna per metterla sotto il moggio, ma sopra il lucerniere perché faccia luce a tutti quelli che sono nella casa.
Neither do you light a lamp, and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house.
16 Così risplenda la vostra luce davanti agli uomini, perché vedano le vostre opere buone e rendano gloria al vostro Padre che è nei cieli.
Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify 'Avikah shebashamayim ·your Father in Heaven·.
17 Non pensate che io sia venuto ad abolire la Legge o i Profeti; non son venuto per abolire, ma per dare compimento.
“Don’t think that I came to destroy the Torah ·Teaching· or the prophets. I didn’t come to destroy, but to fulfill.
18 In verità vi dico: finché non siano passati il cielo e la terra, non passerà neppure un iota o un segno dalla legge, senza che tutto sia compiuto.
For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the Torah ·Teaching·, until all things are accomplished.
19 Chi dunque trasgredirà uno solo di questi precetti, anche minimi, e insegnerà agli uomini a fare altrettanto, sarà considerato minimo nel regno dei cieli. Chi invece li osserverà e li insegnerà agli uomini, sarà considerato grande nel regno dei cieli.
Therefore, whoever shall disobey the least mitzvot ·instructions· and teaches others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven (God). But whoever shall obey them and so teaches shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven (God).
20 Poiché io vi dico: se la vostra giustizia non supererà quella degli scribi e dei farisei, non entrerete nel regno dei cieli.
For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Torah-Teachers and Pharisees [Separated], there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven (God).
21 Avete inteso che fu detto agli antichi: Non uccidere; chi avrà ucciso sarà sottoposto a giudizio.
“You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not murder;’ and ‘Whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’
22 Ma io vi dico: chiunque si adira con il proprio fratello, sarà sottoposto a giudizio. Chi poi dice al fratello: stupido, sarà sottoposto al sinedrio; e chi gli dice: pazzo, sarà sottoposto al fuoco della Geenna. (Geenna g1067)
But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment; and whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca! ·Vain, empty, worthless, to spit upon, good-for-nothing·!’ will be in danger of the Sanhedrin ·Sitting together·; and whoever says, ‘Fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna (Place of fiery torment for the dead). 23 Se dunque presenti la tua offerta sull'altare e lì ti ricordi che tuo fratello ha qualche cosa contro di te,
“If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you,
24 lascia lì il tuo dono davanti all'altare e và prima a riconciliarti con il tuo fratello e poi torna ad offrire il tuo dono.
leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
25 Mettiti presto d'accordo con il tuo avversario mentre sei per via con lui, perché l'avversario non ti consegni al giudice e il giudice alla guardia e tu venga gettato in prigione.
Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him on the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.
26 In verità ti dico: non uscirai di là finché tu non abbia pagato fino all'ultimo spicciolo!
Most certainly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there, until you have paid the last quadrans coin (Roman quarter coin about 3/8 of a cent).
27 Avete inteso che fu detto: Non commettere adulterio;
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not moicheuo ·commit adultery·;’
28 ma io vi dico: chiunque guarda una donna per desiderarla, ha gia commesso adulterio con lei nel suo cuore.
but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has moicheuo ·committed adultery· with her already in his heart.
29 Se il tuo occhio destro ti è occasione di scandalo, cavalo e gettalo via da te: conviene che perisca uno dei tuoi membri, piuttosto che tutto il tuo corpo venga gettato nella Geenna. (Geenna g1067)
If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna (Place of fiery torment for the dead). (Geenna g1067)
30 E se la tua mano destra ti è occasione di scandalo, tagliala e gettala via da te: conviene che perisca uno dei tuoi membri, piuttosto che tutto il tuo corpo vada a finire nella Geenna. (Geenna g1067)

31 Fu pure detto: Chi ripudia la propria moglie, le dia l'atto di ripudio;
“It was also said, ‘Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a get ·certificate of divorce·,’
32 ma io vi dico: chiunque ripudia sua moglie, eccetto il caso di concubinato, la espone all'adulterio e chiunque sposa una ripudiata, commette adulterio.
but I tell you that whoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of porhneia ·sexual immorality·, makes her moicheuo ·become an adulterer·; and whoever marries her when she is put away commits moichao ·act of adultery·.
33 Avete anche inteso che fu detto agli antichi: Non spergiurare, ma adempi con il Signore i tuoi giuramenti;
“Again you have heard that it was said to them of old time, ‘You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to MarYah [Master Yahweh] your vows,’
34 ma io vi dico: non giurate affatto: né per il cielo, perché è il trono di Dio;
but I tell you, don’t swear at all: neither 'by heaven', for it is the throne of God;
35 né per la terra, perché è lo sgabello per i suoi piedi; né per Gerusalemme, perché è la città del gran re.
nor 'by the earth', for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem [City of peace], for it is the city of the great King.
36 Non giurare neppure per la tua testa, perché non hai il potere di rendere bianco o nero un solo capello.
Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can’t make one hair white or black.
37 Sia invece il vostro parlare sì, sì; no, no; il di più viene dal maligno.
But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’ Whatever is more than these is of the evil one.
38 Avete inteso che fu detto: Occhio per occhio e dente per dente;
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
39 ma io vi dico di non opporvi al malvagio; anzi se uno ti percuote la guanciadestra, tu porgigli anche l'altra;
But I tell you, don’t resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 e a chi ti vuol chiamare in giudizio per toglierti la tunica, tu lascia anche il mantello.
If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.
41 E se uno ti costringerà a fare un miglio, tu fanne con lui due.
Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
42 Dà a chi ti domanda e a chi desidera da te un prestito non volgere le spalle.
Give to him who asks you, and don’t turn away him who desires to borrow from you.
43 Avete inteso che fu detto: Amerai il tuo prossimo e odierai il tuo nemico;
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall show agapao ·total devoted love· to your neighbor and hate and detest your enemy.’
44 ma io vi dico: amate i vostri nemici e pregate per i vostri persecutori,
But I tell you, show agapao ·total devoted love· to your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate and detest you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,
45 perché siate figli del Padre vostro celeste, che fa sorgere il suo sole sopra i malvagi e sopra i buoni, e fa piovere sopra i giusti e sopra gli ingiusti.
that you may be children of 'Avikah shebashamayim ·your Father in Heaven·. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
46 Infatti se amate quelli che vi amano, quale merito ne avete? Non fanno così anche i pubblicani?
For if you show agapao ·total devoted love· those who show agapao ·total devoted love· to you, what reward do you have? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?
47 E se date il saluto soltanto ai vostri fratelli, che cosa fate di straordinario? Non fanno così anche i pagani?
If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?
48 Siate voi dunque perfetti come è perfetto il Padre vostro celeste.
Therefore you shall be perfect, just as 'Avikah shebashamayim ·your Father in Heaven· is perfect.
