1 Partito di là, si recò nel territorio della Giudea e oltre il Giordano. La folla accorse di nuovo a lui e di nuovo egli l'ammaestrava, come era solito fare.
On leaving that place, Jesus went into the district of Judea on the other side of the Jordan. Crowds gathered about him again; and again, as usual, he began teaching them.
2 E avvicinatisi dei farisei, per metterlo alla prova, gli domandarono: «E' lecito ad un marito ripudiare la propria moglie?».
Presently some Pharisees came up and, to test him, asked: “Has a husband the right to divorce his wife?”
3 Ma egli rispose loro: «Che cosa vi ha ordinato Mosè?».
“What direction did Moses give you?” replied Jesus.
4 Dissero: «Mosè ha permesso di scrivere un atto di ripudio e di rimandarla ».
“Moses,” they said, “permitted a man to ‘draw up in writing a notice of separation and divorce his wife.’”
5 Gesù disse loro: «Per la durezza del vostro cuore egli scrisse per voi questa norma.
“It was owing to the hardness of your hearts,” said Jesus, “that Moses gave you this direction;
6 Ma all'inizio della creazione Dio li creò maschio e femmina;
but, at the beginning of the Creation, God ‘made them male and female.’
7 per questo l'uomo lascerà suo padre e sua madre e i due saranno una carne sola.
‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother,
8 Sicché non sono più due, ma una sola carne.
and the man and his wife shall become one;’ so that they are no longer two, but one.
9 L'uomo dunque non separi ciò che Dio ha congiunto».
What God himself, then, has yoked together man must not separate.”
10 Rientrati a casa, i discepoli lo interrogarono di nuovo su questo argomento. Ed egli disse:
When they were indoors, the disciples asked him again about this,
11 «Chi ripudia la propria moglie e ne sposa un'altra, commette adulterio contro di lei;
and he said: “Any one who divorces his wife and marries another woman is guilty of adultery against his wife;
12 se la donna ripudia il marito e ne sposa un altro, commette adulterio».
and, if the woman divorces her husband and marries another man, she is guilty of adultery.”
13 Gli presentavano dei bambini perché li accarezzasse, ma i discepoli li sgridavano.
Some of the people were bringing little children to Jesus, for him to touch them; but the disciples found fault with those who had brought them.
14 Gesù, al vedere questo, s'indignò e disse loro: «Lasciate che i bambini vengano a me e non glielo impedite, perché a chi è come loro appartiene il regno di Dio.
When, however, Jesus saw this, he was indignant. “Let the little children come to me,” he said, “do not hinder them; for it is to the childlike that the Kingdom of God belongs.
15 In verità vi dico: Chi non accoglie il regno di Dio come un bambino, non entrerà in esso».
I tell you, unless a person receives the Kingdom of God like a child, they will not enter it at all.”
16 E prendendoli fra le braccia e ponendo le mani sopra di loro li benediceva.
Then he folded the children in his arms, and, placing his hands on them, gave them his blessing.
17 Mentre usciva per mettersi in viaggio, un tale gli corse incontro e, gettandosi in ginocchio davanti a lui, gli domandò: «Maestro buono, che cosa devo fare per avere la vita eterna?». (aiōnios g166)
As Jesus was resuming his journey, a man came running up to him, and threw himself on his knees before him. “Good Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to gain eternal life?” (aiōnios g166)
18 Gesù gli disse: «Perché mi chiami buono? Nessuno è buono, se non Dio solo.
“Why do you call me good?” answered Jesus. “No one is good but God.
19 Tu conosci i comandamenti: Non uccidere, non commettere adulterio, non rubare, non dire falsa testimonianza, non frodare, onora il padre e la madre ».
You know the commandments — ‘Do not kill. Do not commit adultery. Do not steal. Do not say what is false about others. Do not cheat. Honour thy father and thy mother.’”
20 Egli allora gli disse: «Maestro, tutte queste cose le ho osservate fin dalla mia giovinezza».
“Teacher,” he replied, “I have observed all these from my childhood.”
21 Allora Gesù, fissatolo, lo amò e gli disse: «Una cosa sola ti manca: và, vendi quello che hai e dàllo ai poveri e avrai un tesoro in cielo; poi vieni e seguimi».
Jesus looked at the man, and his heart went out to him, and he said: “There is still one thing wanting in you; go and sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall heave wealth in Heaven; then come and follow me.”
22 Ma egli, rattristatosi per quelle parole, se ne andò afflitto, poiché aveva molti beni.
But the man’s face clouded at these words, and he went away distressed, for he had great possessions.
23 Gesù, volgendo lo sguardo attorno, disse ai suoi discepoli: «Quanto difficilmente coloro che hanno ricchezze entreranno nel regno di Dio!».
Then Jesus looked round, and said to his disciples: “How hard it will be for men of wealth to enter the Kingdom of God!”
24 I discepoli rimasero stupefatti a queste sue parole; ma Gesù riprese: «Figlioli, com'è difficile entrare nel regno di Dio!
The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again: “My children, how hard a thing it is to enter the Kingdom of God!
25 E' più facile che un cammello passi per la cruna di un ago, che un ricco entri nel regno di Dio».
It is easier for a camel to get through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God.”
26 Essi, ancora più sbigottiti, dicevano tra loro: «E chi mai si può salvare?».
“Then who can be saved?” they exclaimed in the greatest astonishment.
27 Ma Gesù, guardandoli, disse: «Impossibile presso gli uomini, ma non presso Dio! Perché tutto è possibile presso Dio».
Jesus looked at them, and answered: “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for everything is possible with God.”
28 Pietro allora gli disse: «Ecco, noi abbiamo lasciato tutto e ti abbiamo seguito».
“But we,” began Peter, “we left everything and have followed you.”
29 Gesù gli rispose: «In verità vi dico: non c'è nessuno che abbia lasciato casa o fratelli o sorelle o madre o padre o figli o campi a causa mia e a causa del vangelo,
“I tell you,” said Jesus, “there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or land, on my account and on account of the Good News,
31 E molti dei primi saranno ultimi e gli ultimi i primi».
But many who are first now will then be last, and the last will be first.”
32 Mentre erano in viaggio per salire a Gerusalemme, Gesù camminava davanti a loro ed essi erano stupiti; coloro che venivano dietro erano pieni di timore. Prendendo di nuovo in disparte i Dodici, cominciò a dir loro quello che gli sarebbe accaduto:
One day, when they were on their way, going up to Jerusalem, Jesus was walking in front of the Apostles, who were filled with misgivings; while those who were following behind were alarmed. Gathering the Twelve round him once more, Jesus began to tell them what was about to happen to him.
33 «Ecco, noi saliamo a Gerusalemme e il Figlio dell'uomo sarà consegnato ai sommi sacerdoti e agli scribi: lo condanneranno a morte, lo consegneranno ai pagani,
“Listen!” he said. “We are going up to Jerusalem; and there the Son of Man will be betrayed to the Chief Priests and the Teachers of the Law, and they will condemn him to death, and they will give him up to the Gentiles,
34 lo scherniranno, gli sputeranno addosso, lo flagelleranno e lo uccideranno; ma dopo tre giorni risusciterà».
who will mock him, spit upon him, and scourge him, and put him to death; and after three days he will rise again.”
35 E gli si avvicinarono Giacomo e Giovanni, i figli di Zebedèo, dicendogli: «Maestro, noi vogliamo che tu ci faccia quello che ti chiederemo».
James and John, the two sons of Zebediah, went to Jesus, and said: “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”
36 Egli disse loro: «Cosa volete che io faccia per voi?». Gli risposero:
“What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
37 «Concedici di sedere nella tua gloria uno alla tua destra e uno alla tua sinistra».
“Grant us this,” they answered, “to sit, one on your right, and the other on your left, when you come in glory.”
38 Gesù disse loro: «Voi non sapete ciò che domandate. Potete bere il calice che io bevo, o ricevere il battesimo con cui io sono battezzato?». Gli risposero: «Lo possiamo».
“You do not know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup that I am to drink? or receive the baptism that I am to receive?”
39 E Gesù disse: «Il calice che io bevo anche voi lo berrete, e il battesimo che io ricevo anche voi lo riceverete.
“Yes,” they answered, “we can.” “You shall indeed drink the cup that I am to drink,” Jesus said, “and receive the baptism that I am to receive,
40 Ma sedere alla mia destra o alla mia sinistra non sta a me concederlo; è per coloro per i quali è stato preparato».
but as to a seat at my right or at my left — that is not mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.”
41 All'udire questo, gli altri dieci si sdegnarono con Giacomo e Giovanni.
On hearing of this, the ten others were at first very indignant about James and John.
42 Allora Gesù, chiamatili a sé, disse loro: «Voi sapete che coloro che sono ritenuti capi delle nazioni le dominano, e i loro grandi esercitano su di esse il potere.
But Jesus called the ten to him, and said: “Those who are regarded as ruling among the Gentiles lord it over them, as you know, and their great men oppress them.
43 Fra voi però non è così; ma chi vuol essere grande tra voi si farà vostro servitore,
But among you it is not so. No, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
44 e chi vuol essere il primo tra voi sarà il servo di tutti.
and whoever wants to take the first place among you must be the servant of all;
45 Il Figlio dell'uomo infatti non è venuto per essere servito, ma per servire e dare la propria vita in riscatto per molti».
for even the Son of Man came, not be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
46 E giunsero a Gerico. E mentre partiva da Gerico insieme ai discepoli e a molta folla, il figlio di Timèo, Bartimèo, cieco, sedeva lungo la strada a mendicare.
They came to Jericho. When Jesus was going out of the town with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road-side.
47 Costui, al sentire che c'era Gesù Nazareno, cominciò a gridare e a dire: «Figlio di Davide, Gesù, abbi pietà di me!».
Hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to call out: “Jesus, Son of David, take pity on me.”
48 Molti lo sgridavano per farlo tacere, ma egli gridava più forte: «Figlio di Davide, abbi pietà di me!».
Many of the people kept telling him to be quiet; but the man continued to call out all the louder: “Son of David, take pity on me.”
49 Allora Gesù si fermò e disse: «Chiamatelo!». E chiamarono il cieco dicendogli: «Coraggio! Alzati, ti chiama!».
Then Jesus stopped. “Call him,” he said. So they called the blind man. “Courage!” they exclaimed. “Get up; he is calling you.”
50 Egli, gettato via il mantello, balzò in piedi e venne da Gesù.
The man threw off his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.
51 Allora Gesù gli disse: «Che vuoi che io ti faccia?». E il cieco a lui: «Rabbunì, che io riabbia la vista!».
“What do you want me to do for you?” said Jesus, addressing him. “Rabboni,” the blind man answered, “I want to recover my sight.”
52 E Gesù gli disse: «Và, la tua fede ti ha salvato». E subito riacquistò la vista e prese a seguirlo per la strada.
“You may go,” Jesus said; “your faith has delivered you.” Immediately he recovered his sight, and began to follow Jesus along the road.
