Giosué 17

1 Questa era la parte toccata in sorte alla tribù di Manàsse, perché egli era il primogenito di Giuseppe. Quanto a Machir, primogenito di Manàsse e padre di Gàlaad, poiché era guerriero, aveva ottenuto Gàlaad e Basan.

And the lot is for the tribe of Manasseh (for he [is] firstborn of Joseph), for Machir firstborn of Manasseh, father of Gilead, for he has been a man of war, and his are Gilead and Bashan.

2 Fu dunque assegnata una parte agli altri figli di Manàsse secondo le loro famiglie: ai figli di Abiezer, ai figli di Elek, ai figli d'Asriel, ai figli di Sichem, ai figli di Efer, ai figli di Semida. Questi erano i figli maschi di Manàsse, figlio di Giuseppe, secondo le loro famiglie.

And there is [a lot] for the sons of Manasseh who are left, for their families; for the sons of Abiezer, and for the sons of Helek, and for the sons of Asriel, and for the sons of Shechem, and for the sons of Hepher, and for the sons of Shemida; these [are] the children of Manasseh son of Joseph—the males—by their families.

3 Ma Zelofcad, figlio di Efer, figlio di Gàlaad, figlio di Machir, figlio di Manàsse, non ebbe figli maschi; ma ebbe figlie, delle quali ecco i nomi: Macla, Noa, Ogla, Milca e Tirza.

As for Zelophehad, son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, he has no children except daughters, and these [are] the names of his daughters: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah,

4 Queste si presentarono al sacerdote Eleazaro, a Giosuè figlio di Nun e ai capi dicendo: «Il Signore ha comandato a Mosè di darci una eredità in mezzo ai nostri fratelli». Giosuè diede loro un'eredità in mezzo ai fratelli del padre loro, secondo l'ordine del Signore.

and they draw near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, “YHWH commanded Moses to give an inheritance to us in the midst of our brothers”; and he gives to them, at the command of YHWH, an inheritance in the midst of the brothers of their father.

5 Toccarono così dieci parti a Manàsse, oltre il paese di Gàlaad e di Basan che è oltre il Giordano,

And ten portions fall [to] Manasseh, apart from the land of Gilead and Bashan, which [are] beyond the Jordan;

6 poiché le figlie di Manàsse ebbero un'eredità in mezzo ai figli di lui. Il paese di Gàlaad fu per gli altri figli di Manàsse.

for the daughters of Manasseh have inherited an inheritance in the midst of his sons, and the land of Gilead has been for the sons of Manasseh who are left.

7 Il confine di Manàsse era dal lato di Aser, Micmetat, situata di fronte a Sichem, poi il confine girava a destra verso Iasib alla fonte di Tappuach.

And the border of Manasseh is from Asher to Michmethah, which [is] on the front of Shechem, and the border has gone on to the right, to the inhabitants of En-Tappuah.

8 A Manàsse apparteneva il territorio di Tappuach, mentre Tappuach, al confine di Manàsse, era dei figli di Efraim.

The land of Tappuah has been for Manasseh, and Tappuah to the border of Manasseh for the sons of Ephraim.

9 Quindi la frontiera scendeva al torrente Kana. A sud del torrente vi erano le città di Efraim, oltre quelle che Efraim possedeva in mezzo alle città di Manàsse. Il territorio di Manàsse era a nord del torrente e faceva capo al mare.

And the border has come down [to] the Brook of Kanah, southward of the brook; these cities of Ephraim [are] in the midst of the cities of Manasseh, and the border of Manasseh [is] on the north of the brook, and its outgoings are at the sea.

10 Il territorio a sud era di Efraim, a nord era di Manàsse e suo confine era il mare. Con Aser erano contigui a nord e con Issacar ad est.

Southward [is] for Ephraim and northward for Manasseh, and the sea is his border, and in Asher they meet on the north, and in Issachar on the east.

11 Inoltre in Issacar e in Aser appartenevano a Manàsse: Beisan e i suoi villaggi, Ibleam e i suoi villaggi, gli abitanti di Dor e i suoi villaggi, gli abitanti di En-Dor e i suoi villaggi, gli abitanti di Taanach e i suoi villaggi, gli abitanti di Meghiddo e i suoi villaggi, un terzo della regione collinosa.

And in Issachar and in Asher, Manasseh has Beth-Shean and its towns, and Ibleam and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of En-Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns—three counties.

12 Non poterono però i figli di Manàsse impadronirsi di queste città e il Cananeo continuò ad abitare in questa regione.

And the sons of Manasseh have not been able to occupy these cities, and the Canaanite is desirous to dwell in this land,

13 Poi, quando gli Israeliti divennero forti, costrinsero il Cananeo ai lavori forzati, ma non lo spodestarono del tutto.

and it comes to pass, when the sons of Israel have been strong, that they put the Canaanite to forced labor, and have not utterly dispossessed him.

14 I figli di Giuseppe dissero a Giosuè: «Perché mi hai dato in possesso una sola parte, una sola porzione misurata, mentre io sono un popolo numeroso, tanto mi ha benedetto il Signore?».

And the sons of Joseph speak with Joshua, saying, “Why have you given an inheritance to me—one lot and one portion, and I [am] a numerous people? YHWH has blessed me until now.”

15 Rispose loro Giosuè: «Se sei un popolo numeroso, sali alla foresta e disbosca a tuo piacere lassù nel territorio dei Perizziti e dei Refaim, dato che le montagne di Efraim sono troppo anguste per te».

And Joshua says to them, “If you [are] a numerous people, go up to the forest for yourself, then you have created [a place] for yourself there in the land of the Perizzite and of the Rephaim, when Mount Ephraim has been narrow for you.”

16 Dissero allora i figli di Giuseppe: «Le montagne non ci bastano; inoltre tutti i Cananei che abitano nel paese della valle hanno carri di ferro, tanto in Beisan e nelle sue dipendenze, quanto nella pianura di Izreel».

And the sons of Joseph say, “The mountain is not enough for us, and a chariot of iron [is] with every Canaanite who is dwelling in the land of the valley—to him who [is] in Beth-Shean and its towns, and to him who [is] in the Valley of Jezreel.”

17 Allora Giosuè disse alla casa di Giuseppe, a Efraim e a Manàsse: «Tu sei un popolo numeroso e possiedi una grande forza; la tua non sarà una porzione soltanto,

And Joshua speaks to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, “You [are] a numerous people, and have great power; you do not have [only] one lot,

18 perché le montagne saranno tue. E' una foresta, ma tu la disboscherai e sarà tua da un estremo all'altro; spodesterai infatti il Cananeo, benché abbia carri di ferro e sia forte».

because the mountain is yours; because it [is] a forest—you have created it, and its outgoings have been yours; because you dispossess the Canaanite, though it has chariots of iron—though it [is] strong.”
