Osea 13
1 Quando Efraim parlava, incuteva terrore, era un principe in Israele. Ma si è reso colpevole con Baal ed è decaduto.
When Ephraim used to speak there was trembling; a prince was he in Israel. But he incurred guilt through Baal and died.
2 Tuttavia continuano a peccare e con il loro argento si sono fatti statue fuse, idoli di loro invenzione, tutti lavori di artigiani. Dicono: «Offri loro sacrifici» e mandano baci ai vitelli.
And now they go on sinning. They make for themselves molten gods – idols of silver, skilfully made, wholly the work of smiths. Yet to such they sacrifice! And they who sacrifice kiss calf idols!
3 Perciò saranno come nube del mattino, come rugiada che all'alba svanisce, come pula lanciata lontano dall'aia, come fumo che esce dalla finestra.
Therefore they shall be like the morning mist, like the dew that early disappears, like the chaff which blows away from the threshing floor, like the smoke from the window.
4 Eppure io sono il Signore tuo Dio fin dal paese d'Egitto, non devi conoscere altro Dio fuori di me, non c'è salvatore fuori di me.
Yet it was I, the Lord your God, ever since the land of Egypt, you know no other god but me, nor has there been any saviour except me.
5 Io ti ho protetto nel deserto, in quell'arida terra.
It was I who shepherded you in the wilderness, in the land of burning heat.
6 Nel loro pascolo si sono saziati, si sono saziati e il loro cuore si è inorgoglito, per questo mi hanno dimenticato.
When they were pastured they became full, when they were full their hearts became proud. Therefore they forgot me!
7 Perciò io sarò per loro come un leone, come un leopardo li spierò per la via,
So now I will be to them like a lion, like a leopard will I lay in wait by the path.
8 li assalirò come un'orsa privata dei figli, spezzerò l'involucro del loro cuore, li divorerò come una leonessa; li sbraneranno le bestie selvatiche.
I will fall upon them like a bear robbed of her cubs, I will tear open their chests, like a lion will devour them, and like a wild beast will tear them in pieces.
9 Io ti distruggerò, Israele, e chi potrà venirti in aiuto?
You are destroyed, Israel, by me, your only helper.
10 Dov'è ora il tuo re, che ti possa salvare? Dove sono i capi in tutte le tue città e i governanti di cui dicevi: «Dammi un re e dei capi»?
I want to rule you! Where are your princes in your cities, those of whom you demanded, ‘Give me kings and princes.’
11 Ti ho dato un re nella mia ira e con sdegno te lo riprendo.
I give you kings in my anger, and take them away in my wrath.
12 L'iniquità di Efraim è chiusa in luogo sicuro, il suo peccato è ben custodito.
Ephrahn’s iniquity is gathered up, his sin is laid by in store.
13 Dolori di partoriente lo sorprenderanno, ma egli è figlio privo di senno, poichè non si presenta a suo tempo all'uscire dal seno materno.
The pangs of childbirth come upon him, but he is an unwise child. For this is no time to refuse to leave the womb!
14 Li strapperò di mano agli inferi, li riscatterò dalla morte? Dov'è, o morte, la tua peste? Dov'è, o inferi, il vostro sterminio? La compassione è nascosta ai miei occhi. (Sheol h7585)
Should I deliver them from the power of Sheol? Should I redeem them from death? Death, where are your plagues? Sheol, where is your pestilence? Compassion is forever hidden from my eyes. (Sheol h7585)
15 Efraim prosperi pure in mezzo ai fratelli: verrà il vento d'oriente, si alzerà dal deserto il soffio del Signore e farà inaridire le sue sorgenti, farà seccare le sue fonti, distruggerà il tesoro di tutti i vasi preziosi.
Though he is flourishing among his brothers, there will come an east wind, the Lord’s wind, coming up from the wilderness. His fountain will dry up, his spring shall be parched. The wind will strip the treasury, all the precious things.
16 Samaria espierà, perchè si è ribellata al suo Dio. Periranno di spada, saranno sfracellati i bambini; le donne incinte sventrate.
Samaria will bear her guilt, for she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword, their children dashed to pieces, their pregnant women ripped open.
