1 La regina di Saba, sentita la fama di Salomone, venne per metterlo alla prova con enigmi.
And the queen of Saba heard of the name of Solomon, and the name of the Lord, and she came to try him with riddles.
2 Venne in Gerusalemme con ricchezze molto grandi, con cammelli carichi di aromi, d'oro in grande quantità e di pietre preziose. Si presentò a Salomone e gli disse quanto aveva pensato.
And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train; and [there came] camels bearing spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and she came in to Solomon, and told him all that was in her heart.
3 Salomone rispose a tutte le sue domande, nessuna ve ne fu che non avesse risposta o che restasse insolubile per Salomone.
And Solomon answered all her questions: and there was not a question overlooked by the king which he did not answer her.
4 La regina di Saba, quando ebbe ammirato tutta la saggezza di Salomone, il palazzo che egli aveva costruito,
And the queen of Saba saw all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house which he built,
5 i cibi della sua tavola, gli alloggi dei suoi dignitari, l'attività dei suoi ministri, le loro divise, i suoi coppieri e gli olocausti che egli offriva nel tempio del Signore, rimase senza fiato.
and the provision of Solomon and the sitting of his attendants, and the standing of his servants, and his raiment, and his cup-bearers, and his whole-burnt-offering which he offered in the house of the Lord, and she was utterly amazed.
6 Allora disse al re: «Era vero, dunque, quanto avevo sentito nel mio paese sul tuo conto e sulla tua saggezza!
And she said to king Solomon, [It was] a true report which I heard in my land of thy words and thy wisdom.
7 Io non avevo voluto credere a quanto si diceva, finché non sono giunta qui e i miei occhi non hanno visto; ebbene non me n'era stata riferita neppure una metà! Quanto alla saggezza e alla prosperità, superi la fama che io ne ho udita.
But I believed not them that told me, until I came and my eyes saw: and, behold, the words as they reported to me are not the half: thou hast exceeded in goodness all the report which I heard in my land.
8 Beati i tuoi uomini, beati questi tuoi ministri che stanno sempre davanti a te e ascoltano la tua saggezza!
Blessed [are] thy wives, blessed [are] these thy servants who stand before thee continually, who hear all thy wisdom.
9 Sia benedetto il Signore tuo Dio, che si è compiaciuto di te sì da collocarti sul trono di Israele. Nel suo amore eterno per Israele il Signore ti ha stabilito re perché tu eserciti il diritto e la giustizia».
Blessed be the Lord thy God, who has taken pleasure in thee, to set thee upon the throne of Israel, because the Lord loved Israel to establish [him] for ever; and he has made thee king over them, to execute judgment with justice, and in their causes.
10 Essa diede al re centoventi talenti d'oro, aromi in gran quantità e pietre preziose. Non arrivarono mai tanti aromi quanti ne portò la regina di Saba a Salomone.
And she gave to Solomon a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and very many spices, and precious stones: there had not come any other spices so abundant as those which the queen of Saba gave to king Solomon.
11 Inoltre, la flotta di Chiram, che caricava oro in Ofir, portò da Ofir legname di sandalo in gran quantità e pietre preziose.
And the ship of Chiram which brought the gold from Suphir, brought very much hewn timber and precious stones.
12 Con il legname di sandalo il re fece ringhiere per il tempio e per la reggia, cetre e arpe per i cantori. Mai più arrivò, né mai più si vide fino ad oggi, tanto legno di sandalo.
And the king made the hewn timber [into] buttresses of the house of the Lord and the king's house, and lyres and harps for singers: such hewn timber had not come upon the earth, nor have been seen anywhere until this day.
13 Il re Salomone diede alla regina di Saba quanto essa desiderava e aveva domandato, oltre quanto le aveva dato con mano regale. Quindi essa tornò nel suo paese con i suoi servi.
And king Solomon gave to the queen of Saba all that she desired, whatsoever she asked, besides all that he had given her by the hand of king Solomon: and she returned, and came into her own land, she and her servants.
14 La quantità d'oro che affluiva nelle casse di Salomone ogni anno era di seicentosessantasei talenti,
And the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold.
15 senza contare quanto ne proveniva dai trafficanti e dai commercianti, da tutti i re dell'Arabia e dai governatori del paese.
Besides the tributes of them that were subjects, both merchants and all the kings of the [country] beyond [the river], and of the princess of the land.
16 Il re Salomone fece duecento scudi grandi d'oro battuto, per ciascuno dei quali adoperò seicento sicli d'oro,
And Solomon made three hundred spears of beaten gold: three hundred shekels of gold were upon one spear.
17 e trecento scudi piccoli d'oro battuto, per ciascuno dei quali adoperò tre mine d'oro, e il re li collocò nel palazzo della Foresta del Libano.
And three hundred shields of beaten gold: and three pounds of gold were in one shield: and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.
18 Inoltre, il re fece un grande trono d'avorio che rivestì d'oro puro.
And the king made a great ivory throne, and gilded it with pure gold.
19 Il trono aveva sei gradini; sullo schienale c'erano teste di vitello; il sedile aveva due bracci laterali, ai cui fianchi si ergevano due leoni.
The throne [had] six steps, and calves in bold relief to the throne behind it, and side-pieces on either hand of the place of the seat, and two lions standing by the side-pieces,
20 Dodici leoni si ergevano di qua e di là, sui sei gradini; non ne esistevano di simili in nessun regno.
and twelve lions standing there on the six steps on either side: it was not so done in any [other] kingdom.
21 Tutti i vasi per le bevande del re Salomone erano d'oro; tutti gli arredi del palazzo della Foresta del Libano erano d'oro fino; al tempo di Salomone l'argento non si stimava nulla.
And all the vessels made by Solomon [were] of gold, and the lavers [were] golden, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; there was no silver, for it was not accounted of in the days of Solomon.
22 Difatti il re aveva in mare la flotta di Tarsis, oltre la flotta di Chiram; ogni tre anni la flotta di Tarsis portava carichi d'oro e d'argento, d'avorio, di scimmie e di babbuini.
For Solomon had a ship of Tharsis in the sea with the ships of Chiram: one ship came to the king every three years out of Tharsis, [laden with] gold and silver, and wrought stones, and hewn stones.
23 Il re Salomone superò, dunque, per ricchezza e saggezza, tutti i re della terra.
And Solomon increased beyond all the kings of the earth in wealth and wisdom.
24 In ogni parte della terra si desiderava di avvicinare Salomone per ascoltare la saggezza che Dio aveva messo nel suo cuore.
And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom which the Lord [had] put into his heart.
25 Ognuno gli portava, ogni anno, offerte d'argento e oggetti d'oro, vesti, armi, aromi, cavalli e muli.
And they brought every one their gifts, vessels of gold, and raiment, and stacte, and spices, and horses, and mules, a rate year by year.
26 Salomone radunò carri e cavalli; aveva millequattrocento carri e dodicimila cavalli, distribuiti nelle città per i carri e presso il re in Gerusalemme.
And Solomon had four thousand mares for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen: and he put them in the cities of his chariots, and with the king in Jerusalem: and he ruled over all the kings from the river to the land of the Philistines, and to the borders of Egypt.
27 Fece sì che in Gerusalemme l'argento abbondasse come le pietre e rese il legname di cedro tanto comune quanto i sicomòri che crescono nella Sefela.
And the king made gold and silver in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedars as the sycamores in the plain for multitude.
28 I cavalli di Salomone provenivano da Muzri e da Kue; i mercanti del re li compravano in Kue.
And the goings forth of Solomon's horsemen [was] also out of Egypt, and the king's merchants [were] of Thecue; and they received them out of Thecue at a price.
29 Un carro, importato da Muzri, costava seicento sicli d'argento, un cavallo centocinquanta. In tal modo tutti i re degli Hittiti e i re di Aram vendevano i loro cavalli.
And that which proceeded out of Egypt went up [thus, even] a chariot for a hundred [shekels] of silver, and a horse for fifty [shekels] of silver: and thus for all the kings of the Chettians, and the kings of Syria, they came out by sea.
