Hakim-hakim 20
1 Maka datanglah seluruh umat Israel dari Dan di utara sampai Bersyeba di selatan, dan Gilead di timur, untuk memenuhi panggilan tersebut. Mereka berkumpul dan bersatu di Mizpa di hadapan TUHAN.
Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, with the land of Gilead, unto the LORD at Mizpah.
2 Seluruhnya ada 400.000 prajurit dari pasukan berjalan kaki. Pemimpin-pemimpin dari setiap suku bangsa Israel hadir juga di sana.
And the chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.
3 Sementara itu orang-orang suku Benyamin sudah mendengar bahwa semua orang Israel yang lain telah berkumpul di Mizpa. Maka bertanyalah orang-orang Israel itu kepada orang Lewi yang selirnya terbunuh itu, "Coba ceritakan kepada kami bagaimana kejahatan itu terjadi!" Orang Lewi itu menjawab, "Saya dengan selir saya singgah di Gibea di wilayah Benyamin dan bermalam di sana.
(Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Mizpah.) And the children of Israel said, Tell us, how was this wickedness brought to pass?
And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was murdered, answered and said, I came into Gibeah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.
5 Kemudian orang-orang Gibea datang pada waktu malam untuk mencari saya. Mereka mengepung rumah tempat saya menginap dengan maksud untuk membunuh saya, tetapi kemudian mereka memperkosa selir saya sampai mati.
And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house round about upon me by night; me they thought to have slain, and my concubine they forced, and she is dead.
6 Maka saya mengambil mayatnya lalu memotong-motongnya, kemudian mengirimnya kepada kedua belas suku dalam bangsa kita masing-masing satu potong. Saya melakukan hal itu karena orang-orang Gibea itu telah melakukan sesuatu yang jahat dan memalukan di antara umat Israel.
And I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel: for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.
7 Kalian semua yang berada di sini adalah orang Israel. Jadi sekarang saya minta pertimbangan kalian!"
Behold, ye children of Israel, all of you, give here your advice and counsel.
8 Dengan serentak orang-orang yang berkumpul di tempat itu berdiri dan berkata, "Kita semua tidak ada yang akan pulang ke kemah atau ke rumah.
And all the people arose as one man, saying, We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn unto his house.
9 Inilah yang akan kita lakukan: Kita membuang undi untuk menentukan orang-orang yang harus menyerang Gibea.
But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah; [we will go up] against it by lot;
10 Sepersepuluh dari semua orang laki-laki Israel harus menyediakan makanan untuk mereka yang bertempur. Yang lain pergi menyerang Gibea untuk menghukum mereka karena kejahatan yang telah mereka lakukan di antara umat Israel."
and we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and an hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.
11 Demikianlah umat Israel bersatu untuk menyerang Gibea.
So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.
12 Setelah umat Israel mengutus orang-orang ke seluruh wilayah suku Benyamin untuk menyampaikan berita ini: "Kejahatan apa yang terjadi pada kalian?
And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is come to pass among you?
13 Serahkanlah orang-orang bejat dari Gibea itu kepada kami supaya kami bunuh mereka dan dengan demikian kami membasmi kejahatan itu dari tengah-tengah Israel." Tetapi orang Benyamin tidak menghiraukan perkataan orang-orang Israel yang lainnya itu.
Now therefore deliver up the men, the sons of Belial, which are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel. But Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.
14 Malah dari semua kota di wilayah Benyamin itu orang-orang Benyamin datang ke Gibea untuk memerangi orang-orang Israel yang lainnya.
And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities unto Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.
15 Hari itu mereka mengumpulkan dari kota-kota mereka sebanyak 26.000 prajurit. Dan di samping itu pula penduduk Gibea sendiri pun telah mengumpulkan 700 orang terpilih. Semuanya orang kidal yang ahli dalam hal melontarkan batu dengan memakai umban. Kalau mereka mengumban, tidak pernah meleset sedikit pun.
And the children of Benjamin were numbered on that day out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, which were numbered seven hundred chosen men.
Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men lefthanded; every one could sling stones at an hair-breadth, and not miss.
17 Pada pihak orang-orang Israel lainnya sudah terkumpul sebanyak 400.000 prajurit terlatih.
And the men of Israel, beside Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword: all these were men of war.
18 Tentara umat Israel itu pergi ke tempat ibadat di Betel, dan bertanya kepada Allah, "Ya TUHAN, suku manakah dari antara kami yang harus pertama-tama pergi menyerang orang Benyamin?" TUHAN menjawab, "Suku Yehuda."
And the children of Israel arose, and went up to Beth-el, and asked counsel of God; and they said, Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah [shall go up] first.
19 Besok paginya berangkatlah mereka dan berkemah di dekat kota Gibea.
And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.
20 Mereka menempatkan barisan perang mereka berhadapan dengan kota itu, lalu menyerang.
And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.
21 Maka angkatan perang Benyamin keluar menyerang pula dan membunuh 22.000 tentara Israel pada hari itu juga.
And the children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites on that day twenty and two thousand men.
22 Karena kekalahan itu, pergilah umat Israel ke tempat ibadat lalu menangis kepada TUHAN di sana sampai malam. Mereka bertanya, "TUHAN, haruskah kami pergi lagi memerangi saudara-saudara kami orang-orang Benyamin itu?" TUHAN menjawab, "Ya, pergilah." Oleh karena itu angkatan perang Israel menjadi bersemangat lagi, sehingga mereka mengatur kembali pasukan mereka seperti hari pertama.
And the people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.
(And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even; and they asked of the LORD, saying, Shall I again draw nigh to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)
24 Untuk kedua kalinya mereka pergi menyerang angkatan perang Benyamin itu.
And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
25 Dan untuk kedua kalinya pula orang-orang Benyamin itu keluar menyerang. Kali ini mereka membunuh 18.000 prajurit-prajurit terlatih dari angkatan perang Israel.
And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
26 Maka pergilah lagi umat Israel ke Betel dan menangis kepada TUHAN. Di sana mereka berpuasa sampai malam dan mempersembahkan kurban perdamaian dan kurban bakaran kepada TUHAN.
Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto Beth-el, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
27 Pada masa itu Peti Perjanjian Allah ada di Betel, dan Pinehas anak Eleazar, cucu Harun, bertugas sebagai imam. Maka bertanyalah umat Israel kepada TUHAN, "TUHAN, haruskah kami pergi lagi menyerang saudara-saudara kami orang-orang Benyamin itu, atau haruskah kami menghentikan pertempuran ini?" TUHAN menjawab, "Seranglah mereka! Besok Aku akan memberikan kemenangan kepada kalian."
And the children of Israel asked of the LORD, (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days, ) saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into thine hand.
29 Mendengar jawaban TUHAN itu, orang-orang Israel menempatkan tentara mereka di tempat-tempat tersembunyi sekitar Gibea.
And Israel set liers in wait against Gibeah round about.
30 Lalu pada hari yang ketiga mereka menyerang angkatan perang Benyamin dengan susunan pasukan menghadap Gibea seperti yang telah mereka lakukan pada hari-hari sebelumnya.
And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.
31 Orang-orang Benyamin menyerbu juga, dan terpancing untuk keluar dari kota. Seperti yang sudah-sudah, mereka mulai membunuh orang-orang Israel di daerah terbuka di luar kota pada jalan yang menuju ke Betel dan pada jalan yang menuju ke Gibea. Tiga puluh orang Israel terbunuh.
And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to smite and kill of the people, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goeth up to Beth-el, and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
32 Karena itu orang-orang Benyamin menyangka mereka telah mengalahkan orang-orang Israel itu lagi seperti semula. Tetapi tentara Israel sudah merencanakan untuk mundur supaya memancing tentara Benyamin itu ke jalan-jalan raya, jauh dari kota.
And the children of Benjamin said, They are smitten down before us, as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us rise, and draw them away from the city unto the highways.
33 Ketika pasukan inti Israel mundur, dan menyusun barisan lagi di Baal-Tamar, orang-orang mereka yang ditempatkan di sekitar Gibea, segera keluar dari tempat-tempat persembunyian mereka di daerah luar kota.
And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and set themselves in array at Baal-tamar: and the liers in wait of Israel brake forth out of their place, even out of Maareh-geba.
34 Mereka itu orang-orang terpilih dari seluruh Israel; jumlahnya 10.000 orang. Terjadilah pertempuran yang sengit ketika 10.000 orang itu menyerang Gibea. Orang-orang Benyamin sama sekali tidak menyangka bahwa mereka tak lama lagi akan kalah.
And there came over against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was sore: but they knew not that evil was close upon them.
35 TUHAN memberikan kepada orang Israel kemenangan atas orang Benyamin, sehingga pada hari itu orang Israel membunuh 25.100 orang tentara Benyamin.
And the LORD smote Benjamin before Israel: and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty and five thousand and an hundred men: all these drew the sword.
36 Barulah orang Benyamin menyadari bahwa mereka sudah kalah. Pasukan inti Israel dengan sengaja telah melarikan diri dari orang-orang Benyamin karena mereka mengandalkan anak buah mereka di tempat-tempat persembunyian di sekitar Gibea.
So the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten: for the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted unto the liers in wait which they had set against Gibeah.
37 Orang-orang yang bersembunyi itu cepat-cepat masuk menyerbu Gibea; mereka menyebar ke mana-mana di dalam kota dan membunuh semua orang di situ.
And the liers in wait hasted, and rushed upon Gibeah; and the liers in wait drew themselves along, and smote all the city with the edge of the sword.
38 Tetapi mereka sudah sepakat lebih dulu bahwa kalau ada asap tebal mengepul ke atas dari tengah-tengah kota,
Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait was, that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.
39 pasukan inti yang mundur harus berbalik dan menyerang musuh. Pada saat itu orang-orang Benyamin sudah membunuh 30 tentara Israel dan menyangka mereka telah mengalahkan orang-orang Israel lagi seperti semula.
And the men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons: for they said, Surely they are smitten down before us, as in the first battle.:
40 Tetapi tiba-tiba asap mulai mengepul ke atas dari tengah-tengah kota Gibea. Orang-orang Benyamin terkejut ketika mereka menoleh dan melihat seluruh kota mereka terbakar.
But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the whole of the city went up [in smoke] to heaven.
41 Dan pada saat itu juga pasukan inti Israel balik menyerang, sehingga tentara Benyamin itu menjadi panik karena mereka menyadari bahwa mereka pasti akan kalah.
And the men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were amazed: for they saw that evil was come upon them.
42 Jadi, mereka lari dari orang-orang Israel menuju ke daerah padang gurun, tetapi mereka tidak dapat lolos. Mereka terkepung di antara pasukan inti Israel dan pasukan yang pada saat itu sedang datang dari jurusan kota. Orang Benyamin menderita kekalahan yang amat hebat.
Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness; but the battle followed hard after them; and they which came out of the cities destroyed them in the midst thereof.
43 Orang-orang Israel mengepung dan mengejar mereka terus-menerus sampai ke suatu tempat di sebelah timur Gibea. Sambil mengejar, mereka membunuh
They enclosed the Benjamites round about, [and] chased them, [and] trode them down at [their] resting place, as far as over against Gibeah toward the sunrising.
44 18.000 prajurit terlatih dari angkatan perang Benyamin.
And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these [were] men of valour.
45 Tentara Benyamin lainnya balik lalu lari lewat daerah padang gurun menuju ke gunung-gunung batu di Rimon. Lima ribu orang di antara mereka dibunuh di tengah jalan. Yang lainnya dikejar terus sampai ke Gideom. Dari orang-orang itu ada 2.000 yang dibunuh.
And they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men; and followed hard after them unto Gidom, and smote of them two thousand men.
46 Jadi, tentara Benyamin yang dibunuh hari itu ada 25.000 orang--semuanya prajurit yang gagah berani.
So that all which fell that day of Benjamin were twenty and five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valour.
47 Tetapi dari antara mereka yang lari lewat daerah padang gurun menuju ke gunung-gunung batu di Rimon ada 600 orang yang lolos. Mereka tinggal di Rimon empat bulan lamanya.
But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon, and abode in the rock of Rimmon four months.
48 Kemudian orang Israel kembali lagi lalu menyerang dan membunuh semua sisa-sisa orang Benyamin--pria, wanita, anak-anak dan hewan juga. Semua kota di daerah itu mereka bakar.
And the men of Israel turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city, and the cattle and all that they found: moreover all the cities which they found they set on fire.
