Kejadian 11
1 Semula, bangsa-bangsa di seluruh dunia hanya mempunyai satu bahasa dan mereka memakai kata-kata yang sama.
And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech.
2 Ketika mereka mengembara ke sebelah timur, sampailah mereka di sebuah dataran di Babilonia, lalu menetap di sana.
And it came to pass, as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.
3 Mereka berkata seorang kepada yang lain, "Ayo kita membuat batu bata dan membakarnya sampai keras." Demikianlah mereka mempunyai batu bata untuk batu rumah dan ter untuk bahan perekatnya.
And they said one to another, Come, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and they had slime for mortar.
4 Kata mereka, "Mari kita mendirikan kota dengan sebuah menara yang puncaknya sampai ke langit, supaya kita termasyhur dan tidak tercerai berai di seluruh bumi."
And they said, Come, let us build a city for us, and a tower, and its top in the heavens. And let us make a name for us, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 Maka turunlah TUHAN untuk melihat kota dan menara yang didirikan oleh manusia.
And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of men built.
6 Lalu Ia berkata, "Mereka ini satu bangsa dengan satu bahasa, dan ini baru permulaan dari rencana-rencana mereka. Tak lama lagi mereka akan sanggup melakukan apa saja yang mereka kehendaki.
And Jehovah said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is what they begin to do. And now nothing will be withheld from them, which they propose to do.
7 Sebaiknya Kita turun dan mengacaukan bahasa mereka supaya mereka tidak mengerti lagi satu sama lain."
Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand each other's speech.
8 Demikianlah TUHAN menceraiberaikan mereka ke seluruh bumi. Lalu berhentilah mereka mendirikan kota itu.
So Jehovah scattered them abroad from there upon the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city.
9 Sebab itu kota itu diberi nama Babel, karena di situ TUHAN mengacaukan bahasa semua bangsa, dan dari situ mereka diceraiberaikan oleh TUHAN ke seluruh bumi.
Therefore the name of it was called Babel, because Jehovah there confounded the language of all the earth, and from there Jehovah scattered them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10 Inilah keturunan Sem. Dua tahun sesudah banjir besar, ketika Sem berumur 100 tahun, ia mendapat seorang anak laki-laki yang bernama Arpakhsad.
These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begot Arphaxad two years after the flood.
11 Setelah itu ia masih hidup 500 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.
And Shem lived five hundred years after he begot Arphaxad, and begot sons and daughters.
12 Pada waktu Arpakhsad berumur 35 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Selah.
And Arphaxad lived a hundred and thirty-five years, and begot Cainan.
13 Setelah itu Arpakhsad masih hidup 403 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.
And Arphaxad lived after he had begotten Cainan, four hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died. And Cainan lived a hundred and thirty years and begot Shelah; and Cainan lived after he had begotten Shelah, three hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
14 Pada waktu Selah berumur 30 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Eber.
And Shelah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.
15 Setelah itu Selah masih hidup 403 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.
And Shelah lived four hundred and three years after he begot Eber, and begot sons and daughters.
16 Pada waktu Eber berumur 34 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Peleg.
And Eber lived thirty-four years, and begot Peleg.
17 Setelah itu Eber masih hidup 430 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.
And Eber lived four hundred and thirty years after he begot Peleg, and begot sons and daughters.
18 Pada waktu Peleg berumur 30 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Rehu.
And Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.
19 Setelah itu Peleg masih hidup 209 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.
And Peleg lived two hundred and nine years after he begot Reu, and begot sons and daughters.
20 Pada waktu Rehu berumur 32 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Serug.
And Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Serug.
21 Setelah itu Rehu masih hidup 207 tahun lagi dan mendapat anak-anak lain.
And Reu lived two hundred and seven years after he begot Serug, and begot sons and daughters.
22 Pada waktu Serug berumur 30 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Nahor.
And Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.
23 Setelah itu Serug masih hidup 200 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.
And Serug lived two hundred years after he begot Nahor, and begot sons and daughters.
24 Pada waktu Nahor berumur 29 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Terah.
And Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begot Terah.
25 Setelah itu Nahor masih hidup 119 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.
And Nahor lived a hundred and nineteen years after he begot Terah, and begot sons and daughters.
26 Setelah Terah berumur 70 tahun, ia mendapat tiga anak laki-laki, yaitu Abram, Nahor dan Haran.
And Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 Inilah keturunan Terah: Terah ayah Abram, Nahor dan Haran. Haran mempunyai anak laki-laki, namanya Lot.
Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And Haran begot Lot.
28 Haran meninggal di kampung halamannya, yaitu Ur di Babilonia, pada waktu ayahnya masih hidup.
And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 Abram kawin dengan Sarai, dan Nahor kawin dengan Milka anak perempuan Haran. Haran masih mempunyai anak laki-laki lain namanya Yiska.
And Abram and Nahor took wives to themselves. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30 Adapun Sarai mandul.
And Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31 Terah meninggalkan kota Ur di Babilonia bersama-sama dengan Abram anaknya, Lot cucunya, dan Sarai menantunya, yaitu istri Abram. Dia bermaksud hendak pergi ke negeri Kanaan. Tetapi setibanya di Haran, mereka menetap di sana.
And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife. And they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan. And they came to Haran, and dwelt there.
32 Dan di tempat itu pula Terah meninggal pada usia 205 tahun.
And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.
