< Ruth 1 >

1 Napasamak kadagiti al-aldaw a nagturay dagiti uk-ukom nga adda iti nakaro a panagbisin iti rabaw ti daga. Ket napan ti maysa a lalaki taga-Bethlehem ti Judah idiay pagilian iti Moab a kaduana ti asawana ken ti dua a putotna a lallaki.
Now there came a time, in the days of the judges, when there was no food in the land. And a certain man went from Beth-lehem-judah, he and his wife and his two sons, to make a living-place in the country of Moab.
2 Ti nagan ti lalaki ket Elimelec, ken ti nagan ti asawana ket Naomi. Ti nagan dagiti dua a putotna a lallaki ket Mahalon ken Kilion, a nagtaud iti puli ni Efrata iti Bethlehem idiay Judah. Simmangpetda iti pagilian ti Moab ket nagnaedda sadiay.
And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Beth-lehem-judah. And they came into the country of Moab, and were there for some time.
3 Kalpasanna, natay ni Elimelec, nga asawa ni Naomi, ket nabati isuna a kaduana dagiti dua nga annakna a lallaki.
And Elimelech, Naomi's husband, came to his end; and only her two sons were with her.
4 Nangala dagitoy nga annakna a lallaki iti assawada manipud kadagiti babbai iti Moab; ti nagan iti maysa ket Orfa ken Ruth met ti nagan ti maysa. Nagnaedda sadiay iti agarup sangapulo a tawen.
And they took two women of Moab as their wives: the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth; and they went on living there for about ten years.
5 Kalpasanna, agpada a natay da Mahalon ken Kilion, ket nabati ni Naomi nga awan ti asawana ken awan dagiti dua nga annak.
And Mahlon and Chilion came to their end; and the woman was without her two sons and her husband.
6 Ket inkeddeng ni Naomi a pumanaw idiay Moab a kaduana dagiti manugangna a babbai ket agsublida idiay Judah. Nangngeganna iti rehion iti Moab a tinulungan ni Yahweh dagiti tattaona nga agkasapulan ken inikkanna ida iti taraon.
So she and her daughters-in-law got ready to go back from the country of Moab, for news had come to her in the country of Moab that the Lord, in mercy for his people, had given them food.
7 Pinanawanna ngarud ti lugar a pinagnanaedanna a kaduana dagiti dua a manugangna a babbai, ket nagdaliasatda iti dalan nga agsubli iti daga ti Juda.
And she went out of the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on their way to go back to the land of Judah.
8 Kinuna ni Naomi kadagiti dua a manugangna a babai, “Mapankayo, tunggal maysa kadakayo agsublikayon iti pagtaengan dagiti innayo. Ipakita koma ni Yahweh ti kinapudnona kadakayo, kas iti panangipakitayo iti kinapudnoyo kadagiti natay ken kasta met kaniak.
And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, Go back to your mothers' houses: may the Lord be good to you as you have been good to the dead and to me:
9 Ipalubos koma ti Apo iti tunggal maysa kadakayo a makasarak ti inana, iti balay iti sabali nga asawa.” Kalpasanna inagkanna ida, ket nagsangitda iti napigsa.
May the Lord give you rest in the houses of your husbands. Then she gave them a kiss; and they were weeping bitterly.
10 Kinunada kenkuana, “Saan! Sumurotkami kenka nga agsubli kadagiti tattaom.”
And they said to her, No, but we will go back with you to your people.
11 Ngem kinuna ni Naomi, “Agsublikayo, annakko! Apay a sumurotkayo kaniak? Adda pay kadi aya ti annak a lallaki iti tianko a para kadakayo, tapno agbalinda nga assawayo?
But Naomi said, Go back, my daughters; why will you come with me? Have I more sons in my body, to become your husbands?
12 Agsublikayo, annakko, mapankayon iti bukodyo a dalan; gapu ta baketak unayen tapno maaddaan pay iti asawa. Ta no kunak, maaddaanak koma iti asawa iti daytoy a rabii ket kalpasanna mangipasngayak iti annak a lallaki,
Go back, my daughters, and go on your way; I am so old now that I may not have another husband. If I said, I have hopes, if I had a husband tonight, and might have sons,
13 urayenyo kadi ngarud agingga a dumakkelda? Aguraykayo kadi ket saankayo a mangasawa ita? Saan, annakko! Maladingitanak unay ti nakarkaro ngem iti panagladingityo, gapu ta maibusoren kaniak ti ima ni Yahweh.”
Would you keep yourselves till they were old enough? would you keep from having husbands for them? No, my daughters; but I am very sad for you that the hand of the Lord is against me.
14 Ket pinigsaan dagiti manugangna a babbai dagiti timekda ket nagsangitda manen. Inagkan ni Orfa ti katuganganna kas panagpakadana, ngem nagtalinaed ni Ruth kenkuana.
Then again they were weeping; and Orpah gave her mother-in-law a kiss, but Ruth would not be parted from her.
15 Kinuna ni Naomi kenkuana, “Dumngegka, nagsublin ti abiratmo kadagiti tattaona ken kadagiti diosna. Makikuyogkan nga agsubli iti abiratmo.”
And Naomi said, See, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods: go back after your sister-in-law.
16 Ngem kinuna ni Ruth, “Saannak a paadaywen kenka, ta no sadino ti papanam, mapanak met; sadinoman a pagnaedam, idiay met iti pagnaedak; agbalin a tattaok dagiti tattaom, ket agbalin met a Diosko ti Diosmo.
But Ruth said, Give up requesting me to go away from you, or to go back without you: for where you go I will go; and where you take your rest I will take my rest; your people will be my people, and your God my God.
17 Sadino man a pakatayam, idiayto metten ti pakatayak, ket sadiayto ti pakaitanemak. Dusaennak koma ni Yahweh, ken uray nakarkaro pay, no adda ti aniaman a banag a mamagsina kadata malaksid iti patay.
Wherever death comes to you, death will come to me, and there will be my last resting-place; the Lord do so to me and more if we are parted by anything but death.
18 Idi nakita ni Naomi a natibker ti pangngeddeng ni Ruth a sumurot kenkuana, insardengnan ti makisinnupiat kenkuana.
And when she saw that Ruth was strong in her purpose to go with her she said no more.
19 Nagdaliasat ngarud dagiti dua agingga a nakadanunda iti ili ti Bethlehem. Ket napasamak nga idi simmangpetda idiay Bethlehem, ti amin nga ili ket magagaran unay maipapan kadakuada. Kinuna dagiti babbai, “Daytoy kadi ni Naomi?”
So the two of them went on till they came to Beth-lehem. And when they came to Beth-lehem all the town was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?
20 Ngem kinunana kadakuada, “Saandak nga awagan iti Naomi. Awagandak a Napait, gapu ta pinarigatnak iti nakaro ti Mannakabalin-amin.
And she said to them, Do not let my name be Naomi, but Mara, for the Ruler of all has given me a bitter fate.
21 Pimmanawak a napnoan, ngem pinagawidnak manen ni Yahweh nga awanan. Isu nga apay nga awagandak iti Naomi, makitkitak nga inlunodnak ni Yahweh, a pinarigatnak ti Mannakabalin-amin?”
I went out full, and the Lord has sent me back again with nothing; why do you give me the name Naomi, seeing that the Lord has given witness against me, and the Ruler of all has sent sorrow on me?
22 Nagsubli ngarud ni Naomi ken ni Ruth a Moabita a manugangna, manipud iti pagilian ti Moab. Simmangpetda idiay Bethlehem idi mangrugi iti panagapit iti sebada.
So Naomi came back out of the country of Moab, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, with her; and they came to Beth-lehem in the first days of the grain-cutting.
