Birák 3

1 Ezek pedig a pogányok, a kiket meghagyott az Úr, hogy azok által kísértse Izráelt, azokat a kik nem ismerték a Kanaánért való harczokat,

These nowe are the nations which the Lord left, that he might proue Israel by them (euen as many of Israel as had not knowen all the warres of Canaan,

2 Csak azért, hogy az Izráel fiainak nemzetségei megismerjék, hogy tanítsa őket hadakozásra, csak azokat, a kik azelőtt ezt nem tudták:

Only to make the generations of the children of Israel to know, and to teach them warre, which doutles their predecessors knew not)

3 A Filiszteusok öt fejedelemsége, a Kananeusok mindnyájan, és a Sidoniusok, meg a Khivveusok, a kik a Libánon hegyén laknak, a Baálhermon hegyétől fogva Hamath bemeneteléig.

Fiue princes of the Philistims, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hiuites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon vntill one come to Hamath.

4 Kik azért hagyattak meg, hogy megkísértse általok az Úr Izráelt, hogy meglássa, vajjon engedelmeskednek-é az Úr parancsolatainak melyeket parancsolt az ő atyáiknak Mózes által?

And these remayned to proue Israel by them, to wit, whether they would obey the commandements of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

5 Így az Izráel fiai a Kananeusok, Khitteusok, Emoreusok, Perizeusok, Khivveusok és Jebuzeusok között laktak,

And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hiuites, and the Iebusites,

6 És azok leányait vették magoknak feleségül, a saját leányaikat pedig oda adták azok fiainak, és szolgálák azoknak isteneit.

And they tooke their daughters to bee their wiues, and gaue their daughters to their sonnes, and serued their gods.

7 És gonoszul cselekedtek az Izráel fiai az Úr szemei előtt, és elfelejtkezének az Úrról, az ő Istenökről, és a Baáloknak és Aseráknak szolgáltak.

So the children of Israel did wickedly in the sight of the Lord, and forgate the Lord their God, and serued Baalim, and Asheroth.

8 Ezért felgerjedett az Úrnak haragja az Izráel ellen, és adá őket Kusán-Risathaimnak, Mesopotámia királyának kezébe, és nyolcz évig szolgáltak az Izráel fiai Kusán-Risathaimnak.

Therefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he solde them into the hand of Chushan rishathaim King of Aram-naharaim, and the children of Israel serued Chushan rishathaim eyght yeeres.

9 Ekkor az Úrhoz kiáltának az Izráel fiai, és az Úr szabadítót támasztott az Izráel fiainak, aki megszabadítá őket: Othnielt, Kénáz fiát, Káleb öcscsét.

And when the children of Israel cryed vnto the Lord, the Lord stirred vp a sauiour to ye children of Israel, and he saued them, euen Othniel the sonne of Kenaz, Calebs yonger brother.

10 És az Úrnak lelke vala ő rajta, és biráskodott Izráelben, és a mint kiméne a hadra, az Úr kezébe adta Kusán-Risathaimot, Mesopotámia királyát, és ránehezült keze Kusán-Risathaimra.

And the spirite of the Lord came vpon him, and he iudged Israel, and went out to warre: and the Lord deliuered Chushan rishathaim king of Aram into his hand, and his hand preuailed against Chushan rishathaim.

11 És megnyugovék a föld negyven esztendeig, és meghalt Othniel, a Kénáz fia.

So the lande had rest fourtie yeeres, and Othniel the sonne of Kenaz dyed.

12 De az Izráel fiai ismét gonoszul cselekedének az Úr szemei előtt, és megerősítette az Úr Eglont, Moáb királyát Izráel ellen, azért, mert gonoszul cselekedtek az Úrnak szemei előtt.

Then the children of Israel againe committed wickednesse in the sight of the Lord: and the Lord strengthened Eglon King of Moab against Israel, because they had committed wickednesse before the Lord.

13 Ez magához gyűjtötte Ammonnak és Amáleknek fiait, és elment, és megverte Izráelt, és elfoglalták a pálmák városát.

And he gathered vnto him the children of Ammon, and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and they possessed the citie of palme trees.

14 És szolgálák az Izráel fiai Eglont, a Moáb királyát tizennyolcz esztendeig.

So the children of Israel serued Eglon king of Moab eighteene yeeres.

15 Ekkor megint az Úrhoz kiáltottak Izráel fiai, és az Úr szabadítót támasztott nékik: Ehudot, Gérának fiát, ki Jemininek volt a fia, a ki suta volt. És mikor az Izráel fiai ajándékot küldének általa Eglonnak, Moáb királyának,

But when the children of Israel cried vnto the Lord, the Lord stirred them vp a sauiour, Ehud the sonne of Gera the sonne of Iemini, a man lame of his right hande: and the children of Israel sent a present by him vnto Eglon King of Moab.

16 Ehud szerze magának egy kétélű kardot, egy singnyi hosszút, és azt az ő ruhája alatt a jobb tomporára övezé.

And Ehud made him a dagger with two edges of a cubite length, and he did gird it vnder his rayment vpon his right thigh,

17 És bemutatá az ajándékot Eglonnak, Moáb királyának. Eglon pedig igen kövér ember vala.

And he presented ye gift vnto Eglon King of Moab (and Eglon was a very fat man)

18 És lőn, hogy mikor elvégezé az ajándék bemutatását, elbocsátá az embereket, a kik az ajándékot vitték vala.

And when he had now presented the present, he sent away the people that bare ye present,

19 Ő maga pedig visszatért a Gilgál közelében lévő kőbányáktól és monda: Titkos beszédem van veled, óh király! És ez monda: Hallgass! és kimenének előle mindnyájan, kik állanak vala körülötte.

But he turned againe from the quarris, that were by Gilgal, and said, I haue a secret errand vnto thee, O King. Who said, Keepe silence: and all that stoode about him, went out from him.

20 És Ehud akkor ment be hozzá, mikor épen az ő hűsölő felházában ült magányosan, és monda Ehud néki: Istennek beszéde van nálam te hozzád. És fölkele az a királyi székből.

Then Ehud came vnto him. (and he sate alone in a sommer parler, which he had) and Ehud said, I haue a message vnto thee from God. Then he arose out of his throne,

21 Akkor kinyújtá Ehud az ő balkezét, és kirántá kardját a jobb tomporáról, és beleüté azt annak hasába.

And Ehud put forth his left hand, and tooke the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his bellie,

22 És beméne még a markolatja is a vasa után és berekeszté a háj a fegyver vasát, mert nem vonta ki a kardot annak hasából, sőt átment annak vékonyán.

So that the hafte went in after the blade, and the fatte closed about the blade, so that he could not drawe the dagger out of his bellie, but the dirt came out.

23 Általméne pedig Ehud a csarnokon, minekutána bevonta maga után a felház ajtait, és bezárta.

Then Ehud gate him out into the porch, and shut the doores of the parler vpon him, and locked them.

24 A mint ő kiméne, jövének annak szolgái, és láták, hogy ímé a felház ajtai be vannak zárva, és mondának: Bizonyára szükségét végzi a hűsölő kamarájában.

And when he was gone out, his seruantes came: who seeing that the doores of the parler were locked, they sayd, Surely he doeth his easement in his sommer chamber.

25 De mikor váltig várakoztak és ímé nem nyitotta meg a felház ajtaját, fogák a kulcsot és megnyiták: és ímé az ő urok ott feküdt a földön halva.

And they taryed till they were ashamed: and seeing he opened not the doores of the parler, they tooke the key, and opened them, and behold, their lord was fallen dead on the earth.

26 Ehud pedig elmenekült vala, míg azok késedelmezének, és elhaladván a kőbányák mellett, Szeiráhba futott.

So Ehud escaped (while they taried) and was passed the quarris, and escaped vnto Seirah.

27 És a mikor oda megérkezett, kürtjébe fújt az Efraim hegyén, és alámenének ő vele az Izráel fiai a hegyről, és ő előttük.

And when he came home, he blew a trumpet in mount Ephraim, and the children of Israel went downe with him from the mountaine, and he went before them.

28 És monda nékik: Jertek utánam, mert kezetekbe adta az Úr a ti ellenségeteket, Moábot. És levonultak ő utána, és elfoglalák a Jordán réveit, melyek Moáb felé vezettek, és nem engedtek azokon senkit általkelni.

Then said he vnto them, Follow me: for the Lord hath deliuered your enemies, euen Moab into your hand. So they went downe after him, and tooke the passages of Iorden towarde Moab, and suffred not a man to passe ouer.

29 És leöltek a Moábiták közül akkor mintegy tízezer embert, mind erős és vitéz férfiakat, úgy hogy egy sem menekült el.

And they slewe of the Moabites the same time about ten thousand men, all fed men, and all were warriours, and there escaped not a man.

30 Így aláztatott meg Moáb abban az időben Izráel keze alatt. És megnyugovék a föld nyolczvan esztendeig.

So Moab was subdued that daye, vnder the hand of Israel: and the land had rest fourescore yeeres.

31 Ő utána pedig Sámgár, Anáthnak fia volt bíró, a ki hatszáz Filiszteus férfiút ölt meg egy ökörösztökével, és megszabadítá ő is Izráelt.

And after him was Shamgar the sonne of Anath, which slewe of the Philistims sixe hundreth men with an oxe goade, and he also deliuered Israel.
