1 Sámuel 24
1 Lőn pedig, hogy a mikor visszatért Saul a Filiszteusok üldözéséből, megizenték néki, mondván: Ímé Dávid az Engedi pusztájában van.
When Saul returned from chasing the Philistines, it was reported to him, “David is in the Desert of En-gedi.”
2 Maga mellé vőn azért Saul az egész Izráel közül háromezer válogatott embert, és elment, hogy megkeresse Dávidot és az ő embereit a vadkecskék kőszikláin.
So Saul took three thousand specially-picked men from all Israel and went searching for David and his men in the area around Wild Goats' Rocks.
3 És eljutott a juhaklokhoz, a melyek az útfélen vannak, hol egy barlang volt; és beméne Saul, hogy ott szükségét végezze; Dávid pedig és az ő emberei a barlang rejtekeiben valának.
As Saul passed the sheep pens on the way, there was a cave, and he went in to relieve himself. David and his men were hiding deep inside the cave.
4 Akkor mondák Dávidnak az ő emberei: Ímé ez az a nap, a melyről azt mondotta az Úr néked: Ímé kezedbe adom ellenségedet, hogy úgy cselekedjél vele, a mint néked tetszik. Felkele azért Dávid, és elmetszé orozva Saul ruhájának szárnyát.
David's men said to him, “Today's the day the Lord promised you when he told you, ‘Listen, I'm going to hand over your enemy to you, so you can do to him whatever you want.’” Then David crept up quietly and cut a piece from the edge of Saul's robe.
5 Lőn pedig ezután, hogy megesett a Dávid szíve rajta, hogy elmetszé Saul ruhájának szárnyát;
But afterwards David felt really bad because he'd cut off a piece of Saul's robe.
6 És monda az ő embereinek: Oltalmazzon meg engem az Úr attól, hogy ily dolgot cselekedjem az én urammal, az Úrnak felkentjével, hogy kezemet felemeljem ellene, mert az Úrnak felkentje ő.
He told his men, “May the Lord prevent me from doing anything like this to my master, the Lord's anointed one. I will never attack him, for he is the Lord's anointed one.”
7 És megfeddé Dávid kemény szókkal embereit, és nem engedte meg nékik, hogy Saul ellen támadjanak. Mikor pedig Saul felkelt a barlangból, és elment az úton:
He reprimanded his men and didn't allow them to attack Saul. Saul stood up and went on his way.
8 Dávid is felkelt ezután, és kiment a barlangból, és Saul után kiálta, mondván: Uram király! Mikor pedig Saul hátratekinte, Dávid arczczal a földre hajolt, és tisztességet tőn néki.
A little later David came out of the cave and shouted, “My master the king!” When Saul looked around, David bowed down with his face to the ground.
9 És monda Dávid Saulnak: Miért hallgatsz az olyan ember szavaira, a ki azt mondja: Ímé Dávid romlásodra tör?!
“Why do you pay attention to people who say, ‘Watch out, David wants to harm you’?” David asked.
10 Ímé a mai napon látták a te szemeid, hogy az Úr téged kezembe adott ma a barlangban, és azt mondották, hogy öljelek meg téged, de én kedvezék néked, és azt mondám: Nem emelem fel kezemet az én uram ellen, mert az Úrnak felkentje ő.
“Just look! You've seen with your own eyes today that the Lord handed you over to me in the cave. Some urged me to kill you, but I showed you compassion, and said, ‘I refuse to attack my master, for he is the Lord's anointed one.’
11 Azért atyám! nézd, ugyan nézd felső ruhádnak szárnyát kezemben, mert mikor levágtam felső ruhádnak szárnyát, nem öltelek meg téged! Azért tudd meg és lássad, hogy nincsen az én kezemben hamisság és semmi gonoszság és nem vétkeztem ellened, de te mégis életem után leselkedel, hogy elveszessed azt.
Take a look, my father! You see this piece of your robe I'm holding. Yes, I did I cut it off, but I didn't kill you. Now you can see for yourself and you can be sure that I have done nothing evil or rebellious. I have not sinned against you, but you are hunting me down, trying to kill me.
12 Az Úr tegyen ítéletet közöttem és közötted, és álljon bosszút az Úr érettem rajtad, de az én kezem nem lesz ellened.
May the Lord decide between you and me as to who of us is right, and may the Lord punish you, but I myself will never try to harm you.
13 A mint a régi példabeszéd mondja: A gonoszoktól származik a gonoszság; de az én kezem nem lesz ellened.
As the old saying goes, ‘From the wicked comes wickedness,’ but I myself will never try to harm you.
14 Ki ellen jött ki Izráelnek királya? Kit kergetsz? Egy holt ebet, vagy egy bolhát?
Who is the king of Israel coming after? Who are you chasing? A dead dog! Just a flea!
15 Legyen azért az Úr ítélőbiró, és tegyen ítéletet közöttem és közötted, és lássa meg; ő forgassa az én ügyemet, és szabadítson meg engem kezedből.
May the Lord decide and choose between you and me. May he pay attention to my case and support it; may he save me from you.”
16 És lőn, hogy a mikor elmondotta Dávid e szókat Saul előtt, monda Saul: A te szavad-é ez, fiam, Dávid? És felkiálta Saul, és síra.
After David finished saying this, Saul asked, “Is that you speaking, David my son?” and he wept out loud.
17 És monda Dávidnak: Te igazságosabb vagy én nálamnál, mert te jót cselekedtél velem, én pedig rosszal fizettem néked.
He told David, “You are a better person than I am, because you have repaid me with good, but I have repaid you with evil.
18 És te megmondottad nékem a mai napon, minémű jót cselekedtél velem, hogy az Úr kezedbe adott engem, és te még sem öltél meg engem.
Today you have demonstrated how well you have treated me—for when the Lord handed me over to you, you didn't kill me.
19 Mert ha valaki megtalálja ellenségét, elbocsátja-é őt békében az úton? Annakokáért fizessen az Úr néked jóval azért, a mit velem ma cselekedtél.
For if a man caught hold of his enemy, would he let him escape unharmed? The Lord reward you well for how you've treated me today.
20 Most pedig, mivel tudom, hogy te király leszesz, és Izráelnek királysága a te kezedben állandó lesz:
Listen, I know you definitely will be king, and your rule over the kingdom of Israel will be secure.
21 Esküdjél meg nékem most az Úrra, hogy én utánam nem fogod kiirtani maradékomat és nevemet nem fogod kitörölni atyám házából!
Now swear to me by the Lord that you will not destroy my descendants who follow me, and that you will not wipe out my name from my family line.”
22 És Dávid megesküvék Saulnak. És Saul elméne haza, Dávid pedig és az ő emberei felmenének az ő erősségökbe.
So David promised this to Saul with an oath. Then Saul went back home, but David and his men returned to the stronghold.
