1 Az asszonyok legbölcsebbike fölépítette házát, de az oktalanság önkezeivel lerontja.
The wisdom of women buildeth their house; but folly plucketh it down with her hands.
2 Egyenességében jár, a ki az Örökkévalót féli, de álnok az útjain, a ki őt megveti.
He that walketh in his uprightness feareth Jehovah; but he that is perverted in his ways despiseth him.
3 Az oktalannak szájában a gőgnek vesszeje van, de a bölcsek ajkai megőrzik őket,
In the fool's mouth is a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
4 Ökrök híján tiszta a jászol, de termések bősége a marha erejében van.
Where no oxen are, the crib is clean; but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
5 Hűséges tanú nem hazudik, de hazugságokat terjeszt hazug tanú.
A faithful witness will not lie; but a false witness uttereth lies.
6 Keresett a csúfoló bölcsességet, de nincs, az értelmesnek azonban könnyű a tudás.
A scorner seeketh wisdom, and there is none [for him]; but knowledge is easy unto the intelligent.
7 Menj el a balga ember közeléből, és nem ismerted meg tudásnak ajkait,
Go from the presence of a foolish man, in whom thou perceivest not the lips of knowledge.
8 Az okosnak bölcsessége: érteni az útját, de a balgák oktatalansága csalárdság.
The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way; but the folly of the foolish is deceit.
9 Az oktalanok közt tolmács a bűn és az egyenesek közt a jóakarat.
Fools make a mock at trespass; but for the upright there is favour.
10 A szív ismeri önmagának keservét, és örömébe nem vegyül idegen.
The heart knoweth its own bitterness, and a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.
11 A gonoszok háza megsemmisül, de az egyenesek sátra virul.
The house of the wicked shall be overthrown; but the tent of the upright shall flourish.
12 Van út, mely egyenes az ember előtt, de a vége – halálnak útjai.
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the ways of death.
13 Nevetés közt is fájhat a szív, és az örömnek vége bánat.
Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful, and the end of mirth is sadness.
14 Saját útjaiból lakik jól a tévedt szívű, az övéiből a jó ember.
The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways, and the good man from what is in himself.
15 Az együgyű minden szónak hisz, de az okos ügyel lépésére.
The simple believeth every word; but the prudent [man] heedeth his going.
16 A bölcs fél és kerüli a rosszat, de a balga fölháborodik és elbizakodik.
A wise [man] feareth and departeth from evil; but the foolish is overbearing and confident.
17 A hirtelen haragú oktalanságot követ el, és a fondorlatok embere meggyűlöltetik.
He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly, and a man of mischievous devices is hated.
18 Birtokul nyertek az együgyűek oktalanságot, de az okosok körülfogják a tudást.
The simple inherit folly; but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19 Legörnyedtek a rosszak a jók előtt és a gonoszok az igaznak kapuinál.
The evil bow before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous [man].
20 Társánál is gyűlöletessé válik a szegény, de a gazdagnak barátai sokan vannak.
He that is poor is hated even of his own neighbour; but the rich hath many friends.
21 A ki gúnyolódik felebarátján, vétkezik, de a ki könyörül a szegényeken, boldog az.
He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth; but he that is gracious to the afflicted, happy is he.
22 Nemde eltévelyegnek a rosszat koholók, de szeretetet és hűséget találnak a jót koholók.
Do they not err that devise evil? but loving-kindness and truth are for those that devise good.
23 Minden fáradalomból nyereség származik, de az ajkak beszédje csak hiányra visz.
In all labour there is profit; but the talk of the lips [tendeth] only to want.
24 A bölcsek koronája a gazdagságuk, a balgák oktalansága oktalanság.
The crown of the wise is their riches; the folly of the foolish is folly.
25 Lelkeket ment meg az igaz tanú, de hazugságokat terjeszt a csalárd.
A true witness delivereth souls; but deceit uttereth lies.
26 Az istenfélelemben erős bizalom van, fiainak is menedékük lesz.
In the fear of Jehovah is strong confidence, and his children shall have a place of refuge.
27 Az istenfélelem életforrás, hogy távozzunk a halál tőreitől.
The fear of Jehovah is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.
28 Abban, hogy sok a nép, van a király dísze, és a nemzet fogytában a fejedelem rettegése.
In the multitude of people is the king's glory; but in the lack of people is the ruin of a prince.
29 A késedelmes haragú nagy értelmességű, de a hirtelen indulatú oktalanságot visz el.
He that is slow to anger is of great understanding; but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
30 A testnek élete a szelíd szív, de a csontok rothadása a vakbuzgalom.
A sound heart is the life of the flesh; but envy the rottenness of the bones.
31 A ki nyomorgatja a szegényt, az káromolta alkotóját, de tiszteli őt, a ki könyörül a szűkölködőn.
He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker; but he that honoureth Him is gracious to the needy.
32 Szerencsétlenségében eltaszíttatik a gonosz, de halálakor is bízik az igaz.
The wicked is driven away by his evil-doing; but the righteous trusteth, [even] in his death.
33 Az értelmesnek szívében bölcsesség nyugszik, de a balgák közepében kitudódik.
Wisdom resteth in the heart of the intelligent [man]; but that which is in the foolish maketh itself known.
34 Igazság felemeli a nemzetet, de a népek gyalázata a vétek.
Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to peoples.
35 A király jóakarata az eszes szolgáé, de haragja lesz a szégyenletesé.
The king's favour is toward a wise servant; but his wrath is [against] him that causeth shame.
