במדבר 35

1 וידבר יהוה אל משה בערבת מואב על ירדן ירחו לאמר׃

And he spoke Yahweh to Moses in [the] plains of Moab at [the] Jordan of Jericho saying.

2 צו את בני ישראל ונתנו ללוים מנחלת אחזתם ערים לשבת ומגרש לערים סביבתיהם תתנו ללוים׃

Command [the] people of Israel and they will give to the Levites some of [the] inheritance of possession their cities to dwell in and pasture land for the cities around them you will give to the Levites.

3 והיו הערים להם לשבת ומגרשיהם יהיו לבהמתם ולרכשם ולכל חיתם׃

And they will belong the cities to them to dwell in and pasture lands their they will be for cattle their and for property their and for every animal their.

4 ומגרשי הערים אשר תתנו ללוים מקיר העיר וחוצה אלף אמה סביב׃

And [the] pasture lands of the cities which you will give to the Levites [will be] from [the] wall of the city and [the] outside towards one thousand cubit[s] all around.

5 ומדתם מחוץ לעיר את פאת קדמה אלפים באמה ואת פאת נגב אלפים באמה ואת פאת ים אלפים באמה ואת פאת צפון אלפים באמה והעיר בתוך זה יהיה להם מגרשי הערים׃

And you will measure from [the] outside of the city [the] side of east-ward two thousand by the cubit and [the] side of [the] south two thousand by the cubit and [the] side of [the] west - two thousand by the cubit and [the] side of [the] north two thousand by the cubit and the city [will be] in the middle this it will belong to them [the] pasture lands of the cities.

6 ואת הערים אשר תתנו ללוים את שש ערי המקלט אשר תתנו לנס שמה הרצח ועליהם תתנו ארבעים ושתים עיר׃

And the cities which you will give to the Levites [the] six [the] cities of refuge which you will give to flee there towards the killer and to them you will give forty and two citi[es].

7 כל הערים אשר תתנו ללוים ארבעים ושמנה עיר אתהן ואת מגרשיהן׃

All the cities which you will give to the Levites [will be] forty and eight citi[es] them and pasture lands their.

8 והערים אשר תתנו מאחזת בני ישראל מאת הרב תרבו ומאת המעט תמעיטו איש כפי נחלתו אשר ינחלו יתן מעריו ללוים׃

And the cities which you will give from [the] possession of [the] people of Israel from with the many you will increase and from with the few you will decrease each one according to [the] mouth of inheritance its which they will inherit it will give some of cities its to the Levites.

9 וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר׃

And he spoke Yahweh to Moses saying.

10 דבר אל בני ישראל ואמרת אלהם כי אתם עברים את הירדן ארצה כנען׃

Speak to [the] people of Israel and you will say to them if you [are] about to pass over the Jordan [the] land of towards Canaan.

11 והקריתם לכם ערים ערי מקלט תהיינה לכם ונס שמה רצח מכה נפש בשגגה׃

And you will make happen to yourselves cities cities of refuge they will be for you and he will flee there towards a killer [who] has struck down a person by inadvertence.

12 והיו לכם הערים למקלט מגאל ולא ימות הרצח עד עמדו לפני העדה למשפט׃

And they will become for you the cities a refuge from an avenger and not he will die the killer until stands he before the congregation for judgment.

13 והערים אשר תתנו שש ערי מקלט תהיינה לכם׃

And the cities which you will give six cities of refuge they will be for you.

14 את שלש הערים תתנו מעבר לירדן ואת שלש הערים תתנו בארץ כנען ערי מקלט תהיינה׃

- three Cities you will give from [the] other side of the Jordan and three cities you will give in [the] land of Canaan cities of refuge they will be.

15 לבני ישראל ולגר ולתושב בתוכם תהיינה שש הערים האלה למקלט לנוס שמה כל מכה נפש בשגגה׃

For [the] people of Israel and for the sojourner and for the resident alien in midst of them they will become [the] six the cities these a refuge to flee there towards any [one who] strikes down a person by inadvertence.

16 ואם בכלי ברזל הכהו וימת רצח הוא מות יומת הרצח׃

And if with an instrument of iron - he struck down him and he died [is] a killer he certainly he will be put to death the killer.

17 ואם באבן יד אשר ימות בה הכהו וימת רצח הוא מות יומת הרצח׃

And if with a stone of hand which someone will die by it he struck down him and he died [is] a killer he certainly he will be put to death the killer.

18 או בכלי עץ יד אשר ימות בו הכהו וימת רצח הוא מות יומת הרצח׃

Or with an instrument of wood of hand which someone will die by it he struck down him and he died [is] a killer he certainly he will be put to death the killer.

19 גאל הדם הוא ימית את הרצח בפגעו בו הוא ימיתנו׃

[the] avenger of Blood he he will put to death the killer when meets he him he he will put to death him.

20 ואם בשנאה יהדפנו או השליך עליו בצדיה וימת׃

And if in hatred he will push him or he threw on him with lying in wait and he died.

21 או באיבה הכהו בידו וימת מות יומת המכה רצח הוא גאל הדם ימית את הרצח בפגעו בו׃

Or in enmity he struck down him with hand his and he died certainly he will be put to death the [one who] struck [is] a killer he [the] avenger of blood he will put to death the killer when meets he him.

22 ואם בפתע בלא איבה הדפו או השליך עליו כל כלי בלא צדיה׃

And if in an instant with not enmity he pushed him or he threw on him any weapon with not lying in wait.

23 או בכל אבן אשר ימות בה בלא ראות ויפל עליו וימת והוא לא אויב לו ולא מבקש רעתו׃

Or with any stone which someone will die by it with not seeing [him] and he made [it] fall on him and he died and he not [was] an enemy of him and not [was] seeking harm his.

24 ושפטו העדה בין המכה ובין גאל הדם על המשפטים האלה׃

And they will judge the congregation between the [one who] struck and between [the] avenger of blood on the judgments these.

25 והצילו העדה את הרצח מיד גאל הדם והשיבו אתו העדה אל עיר מקלטו אשר נס שמה וישב בה עד מות הכהן הגדל אשר משח אתו בשמן הקדש׃

And they will deliver the congregation the killer from [the] hand of [the] avenger of blood and they will return him the congregation to [the] city of refuge his where he had fled there towards and he will dwell in it until [the] death of the priest great whom someone had anointed him with [the] oil of holiness.

26 ואם יצא יצא הרצח את גבול עיר מקלטו אשר ינוס שמה׃

And if ever he will go out the killer [the] border of [the] city of refuge his where he will flee there towards.

27 ומצא אתו גאל הדם מחוץ לגבול עיר מקלטו ורצח גאל הדם את הרצח אין לו דם׃

And he will find him [the] avenger of blood from [the] outside of [the] border of [the] city of refuge his and he will kill [the] avenger of blood the killer not [will belong] to him blood.

28 כי בעיר מקלטו ישב עד מות הכהן הגדל ואחרי מות הכהן הגדל ישוב הרצח אל ארץ אחזתו׃

For in [the] city of refuge his he will remain until [the] death of the priest great and after [the] death of the priest great he will return the killer to [the] land of possession his.

29 והיו אלה לכם לחקת משפט לדרתיכם בכל מושבתיכם׃

And they will become these [things] for you a statute of judgment to generations your in all dwelling places your.

30 כל מכה נפש לפי עדים ירצח את הרצח ועד אחד לא יענה בנפש למות׃

Any [one who] strikes down a person to [the] mouth of witnesses someone will kill the killer and a witness one not he will testify against anyone to die.

31 ולא תקחו כפר לנפש רצח אשר הוא רשע למות כי מות יומת׃

And not you will take a ransom for [the] life of a killer who he [is] guilty to die for certainly he will be put to death.

32 ולא תקחו כפר לנוס אל עיר מקלטו לשוב לשבת בארץ עד מות הכהן׃

And not you will take a ransom to flee to [the] city of refuge his to return to dwell in the land until [the] death of the priest.

33 ולא תחניפו את הארץ אשר אתם בה כי הדם הוא יחניף את הארץ ולארץ לא יכפר לדם אשר שפך בה כי אם בדם שפכו׃

And not you will pollute the land which you [are] in it for blood it it pollutes the land and for the land not it will be atoned to the blood which it was shed in it that except by [the] blood of [the] [one who] shed it.

34 ולא תטמא את הארץ אשר אתם ישבים בה אשר אני שכן בתוכה כי אני יהוה שכן בתוך בני ישראל׃

And not you will make unclean the land which you [are] dwelling in it which I [am] dwelling in [the] midst of it for I Yahweh [am] dwelling in among [the] people of Israel.
