שמות 2

1 וילך איש מבית לוי ויקח את בת לוי׃

And he went a man from [the] house of Levi and he took [the] daughter of Levi.

2 ותהר האשה ותלד בן ותרא אתו כי טוב הוא ותצפנהו שלשה ירחים׃

And she conceived the woman and she bore a son and she saw him that [was] good he and she hid him three months.

3 ולא יכלה עוד הצפינו ותקח לו תבת גמא ותחמרה בחמר ובזפת ותשם בה את הילד ותשם בסוף על שפת היאר׃

And not she was able still to hide him and she took for him a basket of papyrus and sealed it she with bitumen and with pitch and she put in it the child and she put [it] among the rush[es] at [the] bank of the River.

4 ותתצב אחתו מרחק לדעה מה יעשה לו׃

And she stood sister his from a distance to know what? will it be done to him.

5 ותרד בת פרעה לרחץ על היאר ונערתיה הלכת על יד היאר ותרא את התבה בתוך הסוף ותשלח את אמתה ותקחה׃

And she went down [the] daughter of Pharaoh to bathe at the River and female attendants her [were] walking on [the] side of the River and she saw the basket in among the rush[es] and she sent maid her (and fetched it she *L(abh)*)

6 ותפתח ותראהו את הילד והנה נער בכה ותחמל עליו ותאמר מילדי העברים זה׃

and she opened [it] and she saw him the child and there! a lad [was] crying and she had compassion on him and she said [is] one of [the] children of the Hebrews this.

7 ותאמר אחתו אל בת פרעה האלך וקראתי לך אשה מינקת מן העברית ותינק לך את הילד׃

And she said sister his to [the] daughter of Pharaoh ¿ will I go and will I call? for you a woman a suckling-nurse from the Hebrew [women] so she may suckle for you the child.

8 ותאמר לה בת פרעה לכי ותלך העלמה ותקרא את אם הילד׃

And she said to her [the] daughter of Pharaoh go and she went the young woman and she called [the] mother of the child.

9 ותאמר לה בת פרעה היליכי את הילד הזה והינקהו לי ואני אתן את שכרך ותקח האשה הילד ותניקהו׃

And she said to her [the] daughter of Pharaoh take the child this and suckle him for me and I I will pay wage[s] your and she took the woman the child and she suckled him.

10 ויגדל הילד ותבאהו לבת פרעה ויהי לה לבן ותקרא שמו משה ותאמר כי מן המים משיתהו׃

And he grew up the child and she took him to [the] daughter of Pharaoh and he became to her a son and she called name his Moses and she said that from the water I drew him.

11 ויהי בימים ההם ויגדל משה ויצא אל אחיו וירא בסבלתם וירא איש מצרי מכה איש עברי מאחיו׃

And it was - in the days those and he grew up Moses and he went out to brothers his and he looked on forced labor their and he saw a man Egyptian striking a man Hebrew one of brothers his.

12 ויפן כה וכה וירא כי אין איש ויך את המצרי ויטמנהו בחול׃

And he turned thus and thus and he saw that there not [was] a person and he struck down the Egyptian and he hid him in the sand.

13 ויצא ביום השני והנה שני אנשים עברים נצים ויאמר לרשע למה תכה רעך׃

And he went out on the day second and there! two men Hebrew [were] struggling together and he said to the guilty [one] why? are you striking companion your.

14 ויאמר מי שמך לאיש שר ושפט עלינו הלהרגני אתה אמר כאשר הרגת את המצרי ויירא משה ויאמר אכן נודע הדבר׃

And he said who? did he appoint you to a man a chief and a judge over us ¿ to kill me [are] you saying just as you killed the Egyptian and he was afraid Moses and he thought truly it is known the matter.

15 וישמע פרעה את הדבר הזה ויבקש להרג את משה ויברח משה מפני פרעה וישב בארץ מדין וישב על הבאר׃

And he heard Pharaoh the matter this and he sought to kill Moses and he fled Moses from before Pharaoh and he dwelt in [the] land of Midian and he sat at the well.

16 ולכהן מדין שבע בנות ותבאנה ותדלנה ותמלאנה את הרהטים להשקות צאן אביהן׃

And [belonged] to [the] priest of Midian seven daughters and they came and they drew and they filled the drinking troughs to water [the] flock of father their.

17 ויבאו הרעים ויגרשום ויקם משה ויושען וישק את צאנם׃

And they came the shepherds and they drove away them and he arose Moses and he delivered them and he watered flock their.

18 ותבאנה אל רעואל אביהן ויאמר מדוע מהרתן בא היום׃

And they went to Reuel father their and he said why? did you hurry to come this day.

19 ותאמרן איש מצרי הצילנו מיד הרעים וגם דלה דלה לנו וישק את הצאן׃

And they said a man Egyptian he rescued us from [the] hand of the shepherds and also carefully he drew for us and he watered the flock.

20 ויאמר אל בנתיו ואיו למה זה עזבתן את האיש קראן לו ויאכל לחם׃

And he said to daughters his and where [is]? he why? this have you left the man invite him so he may eat food.

21 ויואל משה לשבת את האיש ויתן את צפרה בתו למשה׃

And he was willing Moses to dwell with the man and he gave Zipporah daughter his to Moses.

22 ותלד בן ויקרא את שמו גרשם כי אמר גר הייתי בארץ נכריה׃

And she bore a son and he called name his Gershom for he said a sojourner I have become in a land foreign.

23 ויהי בימים הרבים ההם וימת מלך מצרים ויאנחו בני ישראל מן העבדה ויזעקו ותעל שועתם אל האלהים מן העבדה׃

And it was in the days many those and he died [the] king of Egypt and they groaned [the] people of Israel from the labor and they cried out and it went up cry for help their to God from the labor.

24 וישמע אלהים את נאקתם ויזכר אלהים את בריתו את אברהם את יצחק ואת יעקב׃

And he heard God groaning their and he remembered God covenant his with Abraham with Isaac and with Jacob.

25 וירא אלהים את בני ישראל וידע אלהים׃

And he saw God [the] people of Israel and he knew God.
