במדבר 14
| ותשא כל העדה ויתנו את קולם ויבכו העם בלילה ההוא | 1 |
And it lifted up all the congregation and they gave forth voice their and they wept the people in the night that.
| וילנו על משה ועל אהרן כל בני ישראל ויאמרו אלהם כל העדה לו מתנו בארץ מצרים או במדבר הזה לו מתנו | 2 |
And they grumbled on Moses and on Aaron all [the] people of Israel and they said to them all the congregation if we had died in [the] land of Egypt or in the wilderness this if we had died.
| ולמה יהוה מביא אתנו אל הארץ הזאת לנפל בחרב--נשינו וטפנו יהיו לבז הלוא טוב לנו שוב מצרימה | 3 |
And why? [is] Yahweh bringing us into the land this to fall by the sword wives our and little one[s] our they will become plunder ¿ not good for us [is] to return Egypt towards.
| ויאמרו איש אל אחיו נתנה ראש ונשובה מצרימה | 4 |
And they said each to brother his let us appoint a leader and let us return Egypt towards.
| ויפל משה ואהרן על פניהם לפני כל קהל עדת בני ישראל | 5 |
And he fell Moses and Aaron on faces their before all [the] assembly of [the] congregation of [the] people of Israel.
| ויהושע בן נון וכלב בן יפנה מן התרים את הארץ--קרעו בגדיהם | 6 |
And Joshua [the] son of Nun and Caleb [the] son of Jephunneh one of those [who] spied out the land they tore clothes their.
| ויאמרו אל כל עדת בני ישראל לאמר הארץ אשר עברנו בה לתור אתה--טובה הארץ מאד מאד | 7 |
And they said to all [the] congregation of [the] people of Israel saying the land which we passed in it to spy out it [is] good the land very very.
| אם חפץ בנו יהוה--והביא אתנו אל הארץ הזאת ונתנה לנו ארץ אשר הוא זבת חלב ודבש | 8 |
If he delights in us Yahweh and he will bring us into the land this and he will give it to us a land which it [is] flowing of milk and honey.
| אך ביהוה אל תמרדו ואתם אל תיראו את עם הארץ כי לחמנו הם סר צלם מעליהם ויהוה אתנו אל תיראם | 9 |
Only against Yahweh may not you rebel and you may not you fear [the] people of the land for [will be] bread our they it has departed shade their from over them and Yahweh [is] with us may not you fear them.
| ויאמרו כל העדה לרגום אתם באבנים וכבוד יהוה נראה באהל מועד אל כל בני ישראל | 10 |
And they said all the congregation to stone them with stones and [the] glory of Yahweh it appeared at [the] tent of meeting to all [the] people of Israel.
| ויאמר יהוה אל משה עד אנה ינאצני העם הזה ועד אנה לא יאמינו בי בכל האתות אשר עשיתי בקרבו | 11 |
And he said Yahweh to Moses until when? will they spurn me the people this and until when? not will they believe in me with all the signs which I did in midst its.
| אכנו בדבר ואורשנו ואעשה אתך לגוי גדול ועצום ממנו | 12 |
I will strike it with pestilence and I will dispossess it and I may make you a nation great and mighty more than it.
| ויאמר משה אל יהוה ושמעו מצרים כי העלית בכחך את העם הזה מקרבו | 13 |
And he said Moses to Yahweh and they will hear Egypt that you brought up by strength your the people this from midst its.
| ואמרו אל יושב הארץ הזאת שמעו כי אתה יהוה בקרב העם הזה אשר עין בעין נראה אתה יהוה ועננך עמד עלהם ובעמד ענן אתה הלך לפניהם יומם ובעמוד אש לילה | 14 |
And they will say to [the] inhabitant[s] of the land this they have heard that you O Yahweh [are] in [the] midst of the people this who eye in eye he was seen - you O Yahweh and cloud your [is] standing over them and in a pillar of cloud you [are] going before them by day and in a pillar of fire night.
| והמתה את העם הזה כאיש אחד ואמרו הגוים אשר שמעו את שמעך לאמר | 15 |
And you will put to death the people this like a person one and they will say the nations which they have heard report your saying.
| מבלתי יכלת יהוה להביא את העם הזה אל הארץ אשר נשבע להם וישחטם במדבר | 16 |
Because not was able Yahweh to bring the people this into the land which he swore to them and he has slaughtered them in the wilderness.
| ועתה יגדל נא כח אדני כאשר דברת לאמר | 17 |
And therefore may it be great please [the] power of [the] Lord just as you have spoken saying.
| יהוה ארך אפים ורב חסד נשא עון ופשע ונקה לא ינקה--פקד עון אבות על בנים על שלשים ועל רבעים | 18 |
Yahweh [is] long of anger and great of covenant loyalty forgiving iniquity and transgression and certainly not he will leave unpunished visiting [the] iniquity of parents on [the] children on a third generation and on a fourth generation.
| סלח נא לעון העם הזה--כגדל חסדך וכאשר נשאתה לעם הזה ממצרים ועד הנה | 19 |
Forgive please [the] iniquity of the people this according to [the] greatness of covenant loyalty your and just as you have forgiven the people this from Egypt and until now.
| ויאמר יהוה סלחתי כדברך | 20 |
And he said Yahweh I have forgiven [them] according to word your.
| ואולם חי אני וימלא כבוד יהוה את כל הארץ | 21 |
And but [by] [the] life of me so may be filled [with the] glory of Yahweh all the earth.
| כי כל האנשים הראים את כבדי ואת אתתי אשר עשיתי במצרים ובמדבר וינסו אתי זה עשר פעמים ולא שמעו בקולי | 22 |
For all the men who saw glory my and signs my which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness and they have put to [the] test me this ten times and not they have listened to voice my.
| אם יראו את הארץ אשר נשבעתי לאבתם וכל מנאצי לא יראוה | 23 |
If they will see the land which I swore to ancestors their and all [those who] have spurned me not they will see it.
| ועבדי כלב עקב היתה רוח אחרת עמו וימלא אחרי--והביאתיו אל הארץ אשר בא שמה וזרעו יורשנה | 24 |
And servant my Caleb consequence it has been a spirit another with him and he has filled after me and I will bring him into the land where he went there and offspring his it will take possession of it.
| והעמלקי והכנעני יושב בעמק מחר פנו וסעו לכם המדבר--דרך ים סוף | 25 |
And the Amalekite[s] and the Canaanite[s] [was] dwelling in the valley[s] tomorrow turn and set out for yourselves the wilderness [the] way of [the] sea of reed[s].
| וידבר יהוה אל משה ואל אהרן לאמר | 26 |
And he spoke Yahweh to Moses and to Aaron saying.
| עד מתי לעדה הרעה הזאת אשר המה מלינים עלי את תלנות בני ישראל אשר המה מלינים עלי--שמעתי | 27 |
Until when? to the congregation the evil this which they [are] grumbling on me [the] grumblings of [the] people of Israel which they [are] grumbling on me I have heard.
| אמר אלהם חי אני נאם יהוה אם לא כאשר דברתם באזני כן אעשה לכם | 28 |
Say to them [by] [the] life of me [the] utterance of Yahweh if not just as you have spoken in ears my so I will do to you.
| במדבר הזה יפלו פגריכם וכל פקדיכם לכל מספרכם מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה אשר הלינתם עלי | 29 |
In the wilderness this they will fall corpses your and all enrolled [men] your of all number your from a son of twenty year[s] and up-wards who you have grumbled on me.
| אם אתם תבאו אל הארץ אשר נשאתי את ידי לשכן אתכם בה--כי אם כלב בן יפנה ויהושע בן נון | 30 |
If you you will go into the land which I lifted up hand my to cause to dwell you in it that except Caleb [the] son of Jephunneh and Joshua [the] son of Nun.
| וטפכם--אשר אמרתם לבז יהיה והביאתי אתם--וידעו את הארץ אשר מאסתם בה | 31 |
And little one[s] your who you said plunder he will become and I will bring them and they will know the land which you have rejected it.
| ופגריכם אתם--יפלו במדבר הזה | 32 |
And corpses your you they will fall in the wilderness this.
| ובניכם יהיו רעים במדבר ארבעים שנה ונשאו את זנותיכם--עד תם פגריכם במדבר | 33 |
And children your they will be shepherds in the wilderness forty year[s] and they will bear prostitution your until are finished corpses your in the wilderness.
| במספר הימים אשר תרתם את הארץ ארבעים יום--יום לשנה יום לשנה תשאו את עונתיכם ארבעים שנה וידעתם את תנואתי | 34 |
By [the] number of the days which you spied out the land forty day[s] a day for the year a day for the year you will bear iniquities your forty year[s] and you will know opposition my.
| אני יהוה דברתי אם לא זאת אעשה לכל העדה הרעה הזאת הנועדים עלי במדבר הזה יתמו ושם ימתו | 35 |
I Yahweh I have spoken if not - this I will do to all the congregation the evil this which has gathered on me in the wilderness this they will meet their end and there they will die.
| והאנשים אשר שלח משה לתור את הארץ וישבו וילונו (וילינו) עליו את כל העדה להוציא דבה על הארץ | 36 |
And the men whom he sent Moses to spy out the land and they returned (and they caused to grumble *QK) on him all the congregation by bringing out a bad report on the land.
| וימתו האנשים מוצאי דבת הארץ רעה--במגפה לפני יהוה | 37 |
And they died the men [who] brought out [the] unfavorable report of the land evil by plague before Yahweh.
| ויהושע בן נון וכלב בן יפנה חיו מן האנשים ההם ההלכים לתור את הארץ | 38 |
And Joshua [the] son of Nun and Caleb [the] son of Jephunneh they lived of the men those who went to spy out the land.
| וידבר משה את הדברים האלה אל כל בני ישראל ויתאבלו העם מאד | 39 |
And he spoke Moses the words these to all [the] people of Israel and they mourned the people exceedingly.
| וישכמו בבקר ויעלו אל ראש ההר לאמר הננו ועלינו אל המקום אשר אמר יהוה--כי חטאנו | 40 |
And they rose early in the morning and they went up to [the] top of the hill country saying here [are] we and we will go up to the place which he said Yahweh that we have sinned.
| ויאמר משה למה זה אתם עברים את פי יהוה והוא לא תצלח | 41 |
And he said Moses why? this [are] you transgressing [the] mouth of Yahweh and it not it will succeed.
| אל תעלו כי אין יהוה בקרבכם ולא תנגפו לפני איביכם | 42 |
May not you go up for not Yahweh [will be] in midst your and not you will be defeated before enemies your.
| כי העמלקי והכנעני שם לפניכם ונפלתם בחרב כי על כן שבתם מאחרי יהוה ולא יהיה יהוה עמכם | 43 |
For the Amalekite[s] and the Canaanite[s] [are] there before you and you will fall by the sword for since you have turned back from after Yahweh and not he will be Yahweh with you.
| ויעפלו לעלות אל ראש ההר וארון ברית יהוה ומשה לא משו מקרב המחנה | 44 |
And they presumed to go up to [the] top of the hill country and [the] ark of [the] covenant of Yahweh and Moses not they departed from [the] midst of the camp.
| וירד העמלקי והכנעני הישב בהר ההוא ויכום ויכתום עד החרמה | 45 |
And he came down the Amalekite[s] and the Canaanite[s] who dwelt in the hill country that and they struck them and they scattered them to Hormah.
