< Kanikau 5 >

1 E HOOMANAO, e Iehova, i ka mea i hiki mai ai maluna o makou; E noonoo, a e nana mai i ko makou hoowahawahaia.
Remember, O Lord, what has happened to us: behold, and look on our reproach.
2 Ua huli ko makou aina hooili i na malihini, O ko makou mau hale hoi i na kanaka e.
Our inheritance has been turned away to aliens, our houses to strangers:
3 He poe keiki makua ole makou, aohe makuakane, Ua-like ko makou poe makuwahine me na wahine kanemake.
we are become orphans, we have no father, our mothers are as widows.
4 Ua inu makou i ko makou wai no ke kala. Me ke kumukuai i hiki mai ai ko makou wahie.
We have drunk our water for money; our wood is sold to us [for a burden] on our neck:
5 Ua hoomaauia mai makou ma ko makou mau a-i, Ua hooluhiia makou, aole hoomaha.
we have been persecuted, we have laboured, we have had no rest.
6 Ua haawi makou i ka lima i ko Aigupita, a me ko Asuria, I mea e hoomaonaia mai ai i ka berena.
Egypt gave the hand [to us], Assur to their own satisfaction.
7 Ua haua hewa ko makou poe makuakane, a ua ole lakou; Ua kaikai makou i ko lakou hewa.
Our fathers sinned, [and] are not: we have borne their iniquities.
8 Ua noho alii mai na kauwa maluna o makou; Aohe mea hoopakele, mailoko aku o ko lakou lima.
Servants have ruled over us: there is none to ransom [us] out of their hand.
9 O ko makou ola ke kumukuai, i loaa mai ai ko makou berena, No ka maka o ka pahikaua o ka waonahele.
We shall bring in our bread with [danger of] our lives, because of the sword of the wilderness.
10 Ua wela ko makou ili me he umu la, Ma ke alo o ka wela o ka wi.
Our skin is blackened like an oven; they are convulsed, because of the storms of famine.
11 Moe wale lakou i na wahine ma Ziona, I na kaikamahine hoi o na kulanakauhale o ka Iuda.
They humbled the women in Sion, the virgins in the cities of Juda.
12 Ua kaulia na'lii iluna ma na lima; Aole i manaoia na maka o na lunakahiko.
Princes were hanged up by their hands: the elders were not honoured.
13 Lawe lakou i na kanaka ui, i poe wili palaoa, Hikaka ae la na kanaka opiopio, malalo iho o ka laau.
The chosen men lifted up [the voice in] weeping, and the youths fainted under the wood.
14 Ua pau ka noho aua o na lunakahiko mai ka pukapa, A ua oki no hoi ke mele ana o na kanaka ui.
And the elders ceased from the gate, the chosen men ceased from their music.
15 Ua pau ka olioli ana o ko makou naau, Ua hooliloia ko makou hula i kumakena.
The joy of our heart has ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.
16 Ua haule ka papale alii o ko makou mau poo; Auwe hoi makou i ka makou hana hewa ana.
The crown has fallen [from] our head: yea, woe to us! for we have sinned.
17 No keia mea, ua maule ko makou naau; No keia mau mea hoi, ua pouli ko makou mau maka.
For this has grief come; our heart is sorrowful: for this our eyes are darkened.
18 He mehameha maluna o ka mauna o Ziona, Hele no na alopeke maluna olaila.
Over the mountain of Sion, because it is made desolate, foxes have walked therein.
19 Ke noho mau loa nei oe, e Iehova, A o kou nohoalii hoi, mai kela hanauna, a keia hanauna.
But thou, O Lord, shalt dwell for ever; thy throne [shall endure] to generation and generation.
20 No ke aha la oe e hoopoina mau loa ai ia makou, A haalele ia makou no na la ho nui?
Wherefore wilt thou utterly forget us, and abandon us a long time?
21 E hoohuli mai oe ia makou iou la, e Iehova, a e hoohuliia makou, E hana hou i ko makou mau la, e like me ka wa kahiko.
Turn us, O Lord, to thee, and we shall be turned; and renew our days as before.
22 No ka mea, e kipaku loa anei oe ia makou! E huhu nui loa mai anei oe ia makou!
For thou hast indeed rejected us; thou hast been very wroth against us.
