નીતિવચનો 16

1 ૧ માણસો મનમાં સંકલ્પ કરે છે, પણ જીભથી ઉત્તર આપવો તે યહોવાહના હાથમાં છે.

The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, [are] from the LORD.

2 ૨ માણસના સર્વ માર્ગો તેની પોતાની નજરમાં તો ચોખ્ખા છે, પણ યહોવાહ તેઓનાં મનની તુલના કરે છે.

All the ways of a man [are] clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

3 ૩ તારાં કામો યહોવાહને સોંપી દે એટલે તારી યોજનાઓ સફળ થશે.

Commit thy works to the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

4 ૪ યહોવાહે દરેક વસ્તુને પોતપોતાના હેતુને માટે સર્જી છે, હા, દુષ્ટોને પણ સંકટના દિવસને માટે સર્જ્યા છે.

The LORD hath made all [things] for himself: yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.

5 ૫ દરેક અભિમાની અંતઃકરણવાળી વ્યક્તિને યહોવાહ ધિક્કારે છે, ખાતરી રાખજો તે શિક્ષા પામ્યા વગર રહેશે નહિ.

Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

6 ૬ દયા તથા સત્યતાથી પાપનું પ્રાયશ્ચિત થાય છે અને યહોવાહના ભયથી માણસો દુષ્ટતાથી દૂર રહે છે.

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD [men] depart from evil.

7 ૭ જ્યારે કોઈ માણસના માર્ગથી યહોવાહ ખુશ થાય છે, ત્યારે તે તેના દુશ્મનોને પણ તેની સાથે શાંતિથી રાખે છે.

When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

8 ૮ અન્યાયથી મળેલી ઘણી આવક કરતાં, ન્યાયથી મળેલી થોડી આવક સારી છે.

Better [is] a little with righteousness, than great revenues without right.

9 ૯ માણસનું મન પોતાના માર્ગની યોજના કરે છે, પણ તેનાં પગલાં ચલાવવાનું કામ યહોવાહના હાથમાં છે.

A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

10 ૧૦ રાજાના હોઠોમાં ઈશ્વરવાણી છે, તેનું મુખ ખોટો ઇનસાફ કરશે નહિ.

A divine sentence [is] in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.

11 ૧૧ પ્રામાણિક ત્રાજવાં યહોવાહનાં છે; કોથળીની અંદરના સર્વ વજનિયાં તેમનું કામ છે.

A just weight and balance [are] the LORD'S: all the weights of the bag [are] his work.

12 ૧૨ જ્યારે દુષ્ટ કર્મો કરવાથી રાજાઓને કંટાળો આવે છે, ત્યારે સારાં કામોથી રાજ્યાસન સ્થિર થાય છે.

[It is] an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.

13 ૧૩ નેક હોઠો રાજાને આનંદદાયક છે અને તેઓ યથાર્થ બોલનાર ઉપર પ્રેમ રાખે છે.

Righteous lips [are] the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.

14 ૧૪ રાજાનો કોપ મૃત્યુદૂતો જેવો છે, પણ શાણી વ્યક્તિ પોતાના ગુસ્સાને શાંત પાડશે.

The wrath of a king [is as] messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.

15 ૧૫ રાજાના મુખના પ્રકાશમાં જીવન છે અને તેની કૃપા પાછલા વરસાદના વાદળાં જેવી છે.

In the light of a king's countenance [is] life; and his favor [is] as a cloud of the latter rain.

16 ૧૬ સોના કરતાં ડહાપણ મેળવવું એ કેટલું ઉત્તમ છે. ચાંદી કરતાં સમજણ મેળવવી વધારે યોગ્ય છે.

How much better [is it] to get wisdom than gold? and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver?

17 ૧૭ દુષ્ટતાથી દૂર જવું એ જ પ્રામાણિક માણસનો રાજમાર્ગ છે; જે પોતાનો માર્ગ સંભાળે છે તે પોતાના આત્માનું રક્ષણ કરે છે.

The highway of the upright [is] to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.

18 ૧૮ અભિમાનનું પરિણામ નાશ છે અને ગર્વિષ્ઠ સ્વભાવનો અંત પાયમાલી છે.

Pride [goeth] before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

19 ૧૯ ગરીબની સાથે નમ્રતા રાખવી તે સારું છે તે અભિમાનીની સાથે લૂંટના ભાગીદાર થવા કરતાં વધારે સારું છે.

Better [it is to be] of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

20 ૨૦ જે પ્રભુના વચનોનું ચિંતન કરે છે તેનું હિત થશે; અને જે કોઈ યહોવાહ પર વિશ્વાસ રાખે છે તે આનંદિત છે.

He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoever trusteth in the LORD, happy [is] he.

21 ૨૧ જ્ઞાની અંત: કરણવાળો માણસ સમજદાર કહેવાશે; અને તેની મીઠી વાણીથી સમજદારીની વૃદ્ધિ થાય છે.

The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

22 ૨૨ જેની પાસે સમજ હોય તેને માટે સમજણ જીવનદાતા છે, પણ મૂર્ખ માટે શિક્ષા એ તેઓની મૂર્ખાઈ છે.

Understanding [is] a well-spring of life to him that hath it: but the instruction of fools [is] folly.

23 ૨૩ જ્ઞાનીનું હૃદય તેના મુખને શીખવે છે અને તેના હોઠોને સમજની વૃદ્ધિ કરી આપે છે.

The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.

24 ૨૪ માયાળુ શબ્દો મધ જેવા છે, તેઓ આત્માને મીઠા લાગે છે અને હાડકાંને આરોગ્ય આપે છે.

Pleasant words [are as] a honey-comb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

25 ૨૫ એક એવો માર્ગ છે જે માણસને સાચો લાગે છે, પણ અંતે તે મૃત્યુ તરફ લઈ જાય છે.

There is a way that seemeth right to a man, but the end of it [is] the ways of death.

26 ૨૬ મજૂરની ભૂખ તેની પાસે મજૂરી કરાવે છે; તેની ભૂખ એમ કરવા તેને આગ્રહ કરે છે.

He that laboreth laboreth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.

27 ૨૭ અધમ માણસ અપરાધ કરે છે અને તેની બોલી બાળી મૂકનાર અગ્નિ જેવી છે.

An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips [there is] as a burning fire.

28 ૨૮ દુષ્ટ માણસ કજિયાકંકાસ કરાવે છે, અને કૂથલી કરનાર નજીકના મિત્રોમાં ફૂટ પડાવે છે.

A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.

29 ૨૯ હિંસક માણસ પોતાના પડોશીને છેતરે છે અને ખરાબ માર્ગમાં દોરી જાય છે.

A violent man enticeth his neighbor, and leadeth him into the way [that is] not good.

30 ૩૦ આંખ મટકાવનાર વ્યક્તિ મુશ્કેલી લાવનારી યોજનાઓ કરે છે; હોઠ ભીડનાર વ્યક્તિ કંઈક અનિષ્ટ કરી રહી હોય છે.

He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.

31 ૩૧ સફેદ વાળ એે ગૌરવનો તાજ છે; સત્યને માર્ગે ચાલનારને એ મળે છે.

The hoary head [is] a crown of glory, [if] it is found in the way of righteousness.

32 ૩૨ જે ક્રોધ કરવે ધીમો તે પરાક્રમી કરતાં સારો છે, અને જે પોતાના મિજાજને કાબૂમાં રાખે છે તે શહેર જીતનાર કરતાં ઉત્તમ છે.

[He that is] slow to anger [is] better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit, than he that taketh a city.

33 ૩૩ ચિઠ્ઠી ખોળામાં નાખવામાં આવે છે, પણ તે બધાનો નિર્ણય તો યહોવાહના હાથમાં છે.

The lot is cast into the lap: but the whole disposing of it [is] from the LORD.
