માથ્થી 2
1 ૧ હેરોદ રાજાના સમયમાં યહૂદિયાના બેથલેહેમમાં ઈસુ જનમ્યાં ત્યારે, જ્ઞાની માણસોએ પૂર્વથી યરુશાલેમમાં આવીને પૂછ્યું કે,
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea during the reign of King Herod, wise men came from the east to Jerusalem.
2 ૨ “જે બાળક જેનો જન્મ થયો છે, જે યહૂદીઓના રાજા છે, તે ક્યાં છે? કેમ કે પૂર્વમાં તેમનો તારો જોઈને, અમે તેમનું ભજન કરવાને આવ્યા છીએ.”
“Where is the King of the Jews who has been born?” they asked. “We saw his star in the east and we've come to worship him.”
When King Herod heard about it, he was very disturbed, and the whole of Jerusalem with him.
4 ૪ ત્યાર પછી હેરોદ રાજાએ સર્વ મુખ્ય યાજકોને તથા શાસ્ત્રીઓને એકત્ર કરીને તેઓને પૂછ્યું કે, “ખ્રિસ્તનો જન્મ ક્યાં થવો જોઈએ?”
Herod summoned all the chief priests and religious teachers of the people, and asked them where the Messiah was supposed to be born.
“Bethlehem in Judea,” they told him, “for that's what the prophet wrote:
6 ૬ ‘ઓ યહૂદિયા દેશના બેથલેહેમ, તું યહૂદિયાના સૂબાઓમાં કોઈ પ્રકારે સર્વથી નાનું નથી, કેમ કે તારામાંથી એક અધિપતિ નીકળશે, જે મારા ઇઝરાયલી લોકોના પાળક થશે.’”
‘Bethlehem in the land of Judea, you are certainly not the least important of Judah's leading cities, for a leader will come from you who will be the shepherd for my people Israel.’”
7 ૭ ત્યારે હેરોદ રાજાએ તે જ્ઞાનીઓને ગુપ્તમાં બોલાવીને, તારો કયા સમયે દેખાયો, તે વિષે તેઓ પાસેથી ચોકસાઈથી ખબર મેળવી.
Then Herod called the wise men and met with them in private and found out from them exactly when the star appeared.
8 ૮ તેણે તેઓને બેથલેહેમમાં મોકલતાં કહ્યું કે, “તમે જઈને તે બાળક સંબંધી સારી રીતે શોધ કરો અને જયારે તમને મળશે ત્યાર પછી મને જણાવો, એ માટે કે હું પણ આવીને તે બાળકનું ભજન કરું.”
He sent them to Bethlehem, telling them, “When you get there, search for the child. Once you find him let me know so that I can come and worship him too.”
9 ૯ તેઓ રાજાનું કહેવું સાંભળીને ગયા અને જે તારો તેઓએ પૂર્વમાં જોયો હતો તે તેઓની આગળ ચાલતો ગયો અને જ્યાં બાળક હતો તે જગ્યા પર આવીને અટકી ગયો.
After they had heard what the king had to say they went on their way, and the star which they had seen in the east led them until it stopped right above the place where the child was.
When they saw the star they couldn't contain their happiness!
11 ૧૧ ઘરમાં જઈને તેઓએ બાળકને તેની મા મરિયમની પાસે જોયું; પગે પડીને તેનું ભજન કર્યું. પછી તેઓએ પોતાની ઝોળી ખોલીને સોનું, લોબાન તથા બોળનું તેમને નજરાણું કર્યું.
They went into the house and saw the child with Mary his mother. They bowed and worshiped him. Then they opened their bags of treasure and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12 ૧૨ હેરોદ પાસે પાછા જવું નહિ, એવી ચેતવણી સ્વપ્નમાં મળ્યાથી તેઓ બીજે માર્ગે પોતાના દેશમાં પાછા ગયા.
Warned by a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by a different route.
13 ૧૩ તેઓના પાછા ગયા પછી, પ્રભુના સ્વર્ગદૂતે સ્વપ્નમાં યૂસફને કહ્યું કે, “ઊઠ, બાળક તથા તેની માને લઈને મિસરમાં નાસી જા. હું તને કહું ત્યાં સુધી ત્યાં જ રહેજે, કેમ કે બાળકને મારી નાખવા સારુ હેરોદ તેની શોધ કરવાનો છે.”
After they'd left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, and told him, “Get up, and take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt. Remain there until I tell you, because Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”
So Joseph got up and took the boy and his mother, and left during the night for Egypt.
15 ૧૫ અને હેરોદના મરણ સુધી ત્યાં રહ્યો, એ માટે કે પ્રભુએ પ્રબોધક દ્વારા જે કહ્યું હતું તે પૂરું થાય કે, “મિસરમાંથી મેં મારા દીકરાને બોલાવ્યો.”
They stayed there until Herod's death. This fulfilled what the Lord said through the prophet, “I called my son out of Egypt.”
16 ૧૬ જયારે હેરોદને માલૂમ પડ્યું કે જ્ઞાનીઓએ તેને છેતર્યો છે, ત્યારે તે ઘણો ગુસ્સે થયો અને માણસો મોકલીને જે વેળા સંબંધી તેણે જ્ઞાનીઓની પાસેથી ચોકસાઈથી ખબર મેળવી હતી, તે વેળા પ્રમાણે બે વર્ષનાં તથા તેથી નાનાં સર્વ નર બાળકો જેઓ બેથલેહેમમાં તથા તેના આસપાસના વિસ્તારમાં હતાં, તેઓને મારી નંખાવ્યાં.
When Herod realized he'd been fooled by the wise men, he got very angry. He sent men to kill all the young boys in Bethlehem and the regions nearby who were two years old and under. This was based on the time frame he'd discovered from the wise men.
In this way Jeremiah's prophecy was fulfilled:
18 ૧૮ “રામાની સ્ત્રીઓ રુદન તથા મોટા વિલાપ કરે છે. એટલે તે સ્ત્રીઓની પૂર્વજ રાહેલ પોતાનાં બાળકો માટે રડે છે પણ દિલાસો પામવા ઇચ્છતી નહોતી, કેમ કે તેના સંતાન રહ્યાં ન હતા.”
“The sound of terrible weeping and mourning was heard in Rama, Rachel crying for her children. They are dead, and she can't be comforted.”
After Herod died the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, and told him,
20 ૨૦ “ઊઠ, બાળક તથા તેની માને લઈને ઇઝરાયલ દેશમાં જા કેમ કે જેઓ બાળકનો જીવ લેવા ઇચ્છતા હતા, તેઓ મૃત્યુ પામ્યા છે.”
“Get up! Take the child and his mother, and return to the land of Israel, because those who were trying to kill the child are dead.”
So Joseph got up and took the boy and his mother, and returned to the land of Israel.
22 ૨૨ પણ આર્ખિલાઉસ પોતાના પિતા હેરોદને સ્થાને યહૂદિયામાં રાજ કરે છે, એ સાંભળીને તે ત્યાં જતા ગભરાયો. તોપણ સ્વપ્નમાં ચેતવણી પામીને ગાલીલના પ્રાંત તરફ વળ્યો
But Joseph was afraid to go there after he learned that Archelaus had succeeded his father Herod as king of Judea. Warned in a dream, Joseph went to the Galilee area
23 ૨૩ અને નાસરેથ નામના નગરમાં આવીને રહ્યો. આમ એટલા માટે થયું, જેથી પ્રબોધકોનું કહેલું પૂરું થાય કે તે નાઝીરી કહેવાશે.
and settled down in Nazareth. This fulfilled what the prophets had said, “He will be called a Nazarene.”
