1 ૧ હવે તિબેરિયસ કાઈસારની કારકિર્દીને પંદરમે વર્ષે, જયારે પોંતિયસ પિલાત યહૂદિયાનો અધિપતિ, તથા હેરોદ ગાલીલનો રાજ્યકર્તા તથા તેનો ભાઈ ફિલિપ ઇતુરાઈ તથા ત્રાખોનિતી દેશનો રાજ્યકર્તા તથા લુસાનિયસ આબીલેનેનો રાજ્યકર્તા હતો
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar [Ruler], Pontius Pilate [Armed with javelin] being governor of Judea [Praise], and Herod [Heroic] being tetrarch (one of four co-emperors) of Galilee [District, Circuit], and his brother Philip [Loves horses] tetrarch (one of four co-emperors) of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch (one of four co-emperors) of Abilene,
2 ૨ આન્નાસ તથા કાયાફા પ્રમુખ યાજકો હતા ત્યારે ઝખાર્યાનાં દીકરા યોહાનની પાસે ઈશ્વરનું વચન અરણ્યમાં આવ્યું.
in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas [Rock that hollows itself out], ha D'var Elohim · the Word of God· came to John [Yah is gracious], the son of Zacharias [Remembered by Yah], in the wilderness.
3 ૩ તે યર્દનની આસપાસના સઘળા પ્રદેશમાં પાપોની માફીને સારુ પસ્તાવાનું બાપ્તિસ્મા જાહેર કરતો પ્રગટ થયો.
He came into all the region around the Jordan [Descender], preaching the baptism of teshuvah ·complete repentance· for remission of sins.
4 ૪ યશાયા પ્રબોધકનાં વચનોના પુસ્તકમાં લખ્યું છે તેમ કે, ‘અરણ્યમાં ઘાંટો કરનારની વાણી કે, પ્રભુનો માર્ગ તૈયાર કરો, તેમના રસ્તા સીધા કરો;
As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah [Salvation of Yah] the prophet, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make ready the way of MarYah [Master Yahweh]. Make his paths straight.
5 ૫ દરેક નીચાણ પુરાશે, દરેક પહાડ તથા ટેકરો નીચાં કરાશે, વાંકું સીધું કરાશે અને ખાડા ટેકરાવાળાં માર્ગ સપાટ કરવામાં આવશે.
Every valley will be filled. Every mountain and hill will be brought low. The crooked will become straight, and the rough ways smooth.
Then all humanity will see God’s method of deliverance.’”
7 ૭ તેનાથી બાપ્તિસ્મા પામવાને આવતા ઘણાં લોકોને યોહાને કહ્યું કે, ‘ઓ સર્પોના વંશ, આવનાર કોપથી નાસવાને તમને કોણે ચેતવ્યાં?
He said therefore to the multitudes who went out to be baptized by him, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 ૮ તો પસ્તાવો કરનારને શોભે તેવાં ફળ ઉપજાવો, અને પોતાના મનમાં એમ ન કહેવા માંડો કે, ઇબ્રાહિમ અમારા પિતા છે,’ કેમ કે હું તમને કહું છું કે, ઈશ્વર આ પથ્થરોમાંથી ઇબ્રાહિમને સારુ સંતાન ઉત્પન્ન કરી શકે છે.’”
Therefore produce fruits worthy of teshuvah ·complete repentance·, and don’t begin to say among yourselves, ‘We have Abraham [Father of a multitude] Avinu ·our Father·;’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham [Father of a multitude] from these stones!
9 ૯ વળી હમણાં કુહાડો વૃક્ષોની જડ પર છે, માટે દરેક વૃક્ષ જે સારાં ફળ આપતું નથી, તે કપાય છે અને અગ્નિમાં નંખાય છે.’”
Even now the ax also lies at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not produce good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire.”
The multitudes asked him, “What then must we do?”
11 ૧૧ તેણે તેઓને ઉત્તર આપતાં કહ્યું કે, ‘જેની પાસે બે અંગરખા હોય તે જેની પાસે એક પણ નથી તેને આપે; જેની પાસે ખાવાનું હોય તે પણ એમ જ કરે.’”
He answered them, “He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.”
Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what must we do?”
He said to them, “Collect no more than that which is appointed to you.”
14 ૧૪ સૈનિકોએ પણ તેને પૂછતાં કહ્યું કે, ‘અમારે શું કરવું?’ તેણે તેઓને કહ્યું કે, ‘જબરદસ્તીથી કોઈની પાસેથી પૈસા પડાવો નહિ. અને કોઈની ઉપર જૂઠા આરોપો ન મૂકો. તમારા પગારથી સંતોષી રહો.’”
Soldiers also asked him, saying, “What about us? What must we do?” He said to them, “Extort from no one by violence, neither accuse anyone wrongfully. Be content with your wages.”
15 ૧૫ લોકો ખ્રિસ્તની રાહ જોતાં હતા, અને સઘળા યોહાન સંબંધી પોતાના મનમાં વિચાર કરતા હતા કે, ‘એ ખ્રિસ્ત હશે કે નહિ;’
As the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John [Yah is gracious], whether perhaps he was the Messiah [Anointed one],
16 ૧૬ ત્યારે યોહાને ઉત્તર આપતાં સર્વને કહ્યું કે, ‘હું તો પાણીથી તમારું બાપ્તિસ્મા કરું છું, પણ મારા કરતાં જે સામર્થ્યવાન છે તે આવે છે, તેમના ચંપલની દોરી છોડવાને પણ હું યોગ્ય નથી. તે પવિત્ર આત્માથી તથા અગ્નિથી તમારું બાપ્તિસ્મા કરશે.
John [Yah is gracious] answered them all, “I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you in Ruach haKodesh [Spirit of the Holiness] and fire,
17 ૧૭ તેમનું સૂપડું તેમના હાથમાં છે, તે પોતાની ખળીને પૂરેપૂરી સાફ કરશે અને ઘઉં તે પોતાની વખારમાં ભરશે; પણ ભૂસું ન હોલવાનાર અગ્નિમાં બાળી નાખશે.’”
whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Then with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people,
19 ૧૯ યોહાને હેરોદને તેના ભાઈની પત્ની હેરોદિયાસ સાથે લગ્ન કરવા બદલ તથા બીજા ઘણાં ખરાબ કામો કરવા બદલ ઠપકો આપ્યો,
but Herod [Heroic] the tetrarch (one of four co-emperors), being reproved by him for Herodias, his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things which Herod [Heroic] had done,
added this also to them all, that he shut up John [Yah is gracious] in prison.
21 ૨૧ સર્વ લોક બાપ્તિસ્મા પામ્યા પછી ઈસુ પણ બાપ્તિસ્મા પામીને પ્રાર્થના કરતા હતા, એટલામાં સ્વર્ગ ઊઘડી ગયું;
Now when all the people were baptized, Yeshua [Salvation] also had been baptized, and was praying. The sky was opened,
22 ૨૨ અને પવિત્ર આત્મા કબૂતરનાં રૂપે તેમના પર ઊતર્યા; અને સ્વર્ગમાંથી એવી વાણી થઈ કે, ‘તું મારો વહાલો દીકરો છે, તારા પર હું પ્રસન્ન છું.’”
and Ruach haKodesh [Spirit of the Holiness] descended in a bodily form like a dove on him; and a voice came out of the sky, saying “You are my agapetos ·beloved, esteemed· Son. In you I am well pleased.”
23 ૨૩ ઈસુ પોતે બોધ કરવા લાગ્યા, ત્યારે તે આશરે ત્રીસ વર્ષની ઉંમરના હતા, અને લોકોના ધાર્યા પ્રમાણે તે યૂસફના દીકરા હતા, જે હેલીનો દીકરો,
Yeshua [Salvation] himself, when he began to teach, was about thirty years old, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph [May he add], the son of Heli,
the son of Matthat, the son of Levi [United with], the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph [May he add],
the son of Mattathias [Gift of Yah], the son of Amos [Burden bearor], the son of Nahum [Comforter], the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,
the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias [Gift of Yah], the son of Semein, the son of Joseph [May he add], the son of Judah [Praised],
the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri,
the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmodam, the son of Er,
the son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi [United with],
the son of Simeon [Hearing], the son of Judah [Praised], the son of Joseph [May he add], the son of Jonan, the son of Eliakim,
the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David [Beloved],
the son of Jesse [My husband], the son of Obed, the son of Boaz [In majesty, in strength], the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon,
the son of Amminadab, the son of Aram [Elevated], the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah [Praised],
the son of Jacob [Supplanter], the son of Isaac [Laughter], the son of Abraham [Father of a multitude], the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah,
the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem [Name], the son of Noah [Rest], the son of Lamech,
the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan,
the son of Enos, the son of Seth [Appointed], the son of Adam [Human, Red earth], the son of God.
