યોહાન 12
1 ૧ પાસ્ખાપર્વના છ દિવસ અગાઉ ઈસુ બેથાનિયા આવ્યા, લાજરસ, જેને ઈસુએ મરણમાંથી સજીવન કર્યો હતો તે ત્યાં હતો.
Six days before the Passover Jesus went to Bethany, to the home of Lazarus who had been raised from the dead.
2 ૨ માટે તેઓએ તેને માટે ખોરાક તૈયાર કર્યો હતો અને માર્થા ભોજન પીરસતી હતી, લાજરસ ઈસુની સાથે જમવા બેઠેલાઓમાંનો એક હતો.
There a dinner was arranged in his honor. Martha helped serve the food while Lazarus sat at the table with Jesus and the others guests.
3 ૩ તે વેળા મરિયમે અતિ મૂલ્યવાન શુદ્ધ જટામાંસીનું અડધો કિલો અત્તર લઈને ઈસુને પગે લગાવ્યું અને તેના વાળથી તેમના પગ લૂછ્યા; અત્તરની સુગંધ આખા ઘરમાં પ્રસરી ગઈ.
Mary brought a pint of pure nard perfume and anointed Jesus' feet, wiping them dry with her hair. The scent of the perfume filled the whole house.
But one of the disciples, Judas Iscariot, who would later betray Jesus, asked,
“Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth three hundred denarii.”
6 ૬ હવે આ જે તેણે કહ્યું તેનું કારણ એ નહોતું કે તેને ગરીબોને માટે લાગણી હતી; પણ તે ચોર હતો અને થેલી રાખતો હતો. તેમાં જે નાખવામાં આવતું તે તે ચોરી લેતો હતો તે માટે કહ્યું.
He wasn't saying this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. He was the one who looked after the disciples' money and he often took some for himself.
“Don't criticize her,” Jesus replied. “She did this in preparation for the day of my burial.
You'll always have the poor here with you, but you won't always have me here.”
9 ૯ ત્યારે યહૂદીઓમાંના ઘણાં લોકોએ જાણ્યું કે તે ત્યાં છે, ત્યારે તેઓ એકલા ઈસુને લીધે નહિ, પણ લાજરસ જેને તેમણે મરણમાંથી જીવિત કર્યો હતો, તેને પણ જોવા માટે આવ્યા.
A large crowd had found out that he was there. They came there not just to see Jesus but because they wanted to see Lazarus, the man Jesus had raised from the dead.
So the chief priests planned to kill Lazarus as well,
since it was because of him that many Jews were no longer following them but putting their trust in Jesus.
The following day the crowds of people who had come for the Passover festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
13 ૧૩ ત્યારે ખજૂરીની ડાળીઓ લઈને તેઓ તેમને મળવાને બહાર ગયા; અને ઊંચા અવાજે કહ્યું કે, ‘હોસાન્ના; પ્રભુને નામે ઇઝરાયલના જે રાજા આવે છે, તે આશીર્વાદિત છે.
They cut off palm branches and went to welcome him, shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one coming in the name of the Lord. Blessed is the king of Israel.”
Jesus found a young donkey and rode on it, as Scripture says:
“Don't be afraid, daughter of Zion. Look, your king is coming, riding a donkey's colt.”
16 ૧૬ પ્રથમ તેના શિષ્યો એ વાતો સમજ્યા ન હતા, પણ ઈસુ મહિમાવાન થયા, ત્યારે તેઓને યાદ આવ્યું કે, ઈસુના સંબંધી એ વાતો લખેલી છે, તે જ પ્રમાણે તેઓએ તેમને કર્યું છે.
At the time, Jesus' disciples did not understand what these things meant. It was only later when he was glorified that they realized what had happened had been prophesied and applied to him.
17 ૧૭ તેમણે લાજરસને કબરમાંથી બોલાવ્યો અને મરેલાઓમાંથી જીવિત કર્યો, તે વખતે જે લોક તેમની સાથે હતા, તેઓએ આ બીનાને સમર્થન આપ્યું.
Many in the crowd had seen Jesus call Lazarus from the tomb and raise him from the dead and were telling the story.
18 ૧૮ તે કારણથી પણ લોકો તેમને મળવા ગયા; કેમ કે તેમણે એ ચમત્કારિક ચિહ્ન કર્યું હતું એવું તેઓએ સાંભળ્યું હતું.
That was the reason so many people went to meet Jesus—because they had heard about this miracle.
19 ૧૯ તે માટે ફરોશીઓએ પરસ્પર કહ્યું કે, ‘જુઓ, આપણું તો કંઈ વળતું નથી; જુઓ, આખું માનવજગત તેમની પાછળ ગયું છે.
The Pharisees said to one other, “Look, we're getting nowhere. Everyone's running after him.”
Now some Greeks had come to the festival to worship.
21 ૨૧ માટે તેઓએ ગાલીલના બેથસાઈદાના ફિલિપની પાસે આવીને તેમને વિનંતી કરતાં કહ્યું કે, ‘ભાઈ, અમે ઈસુને જોવા ચાહીએ છીએ.’”
They came to Philip of Bethsaida in Galilee, and said, “Sir, we'd like to see Jesus.”
Philip went and told Andrew. Then they both went to Jesus and told him.
Jesus replied, “The time has come for the Son of man to be glorified.
24 ૨૪ હું તમને નિશ્ચે કહું છું, જો ઘઉંનો દાણો જમીનમાં પડીને મરતો નથી, તો તે એકલો રહે છે; પણ જો તે મરે, તો તે ઘણાં ફળ આપે છે.
I tell you the truth: unless a grain of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains just one grain. But if it dies, it produces many more grains of wheat.
25 ૨૫ જે પોતાનો જીવ સાચવે છે, તે તેને ગુમાવે છે; જે આ જગતમાં પોતાના જીવ પર દ્વેષ કરે છે, તે અનંતજીવનને સારુ તેને બચાવી રાખશે. (aiōnios g166)
If you love your own life you will lose it, but if you don't love your own life in this world you will keep your life forever. (aiōnios g166)
26 ૨૬ જો કોઈ મારી સેવા કરતો હોય, તો તેણે મારી પાછળ ચાલવું; અને જ્યાં હું છું, ત્યાં મારો સેવક પણ રહેશે; જો કોઈ મારી સેવા કરતો હોય, તો બાપ તેને માન આપશે.
If you want to serve me you need to follow me. My servants will be where I am, and my Father will honor anyone who serves for me.
27 ૨૭ હવે મારો જીવ વ્યાકુળ થયો છે; હું શું કહું? ઓ બાપ, મને આ ઘડીથી બચાવ. પણ આને લીધે જ તો હું આ ઘડી સુધી આવ્યો છું.
Now I am troubled. What should I say? ‘Father, save me from this coming time of suffering?’ No, for this is why I came—to go through this time of suffering.
28 ૨૮ ઓ બાપ, તમારા નામનો મહિમા થાઓ, ત્યારે સ્વર્ગમાંથી એવી વાણી થઈ કે, ‘મેં તેનો મહિમા કર્યો છે અને ફરી કરીશ.’”
Father, show the glory of your character.” A voice came from heaven, saying, “I have shown its glory, and I will show it again.”
29 ૨૯ ત્યારે જે લોકોએ પાસે ઊભા રહીને તે સાંભળ્યું હતું, તેઓએ કહ્યું કે, ‘ગર્જના થઈ;’ બીજાઓએ કહ્યું કે, ‘સ્વર્ગદૂતે તેમની સાથે વાત કરી.’”
The crowd that was standing there heard it. Some said it thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.
Jesus told them, “This voice spoke not for my sake, but for yours.
Now is the judgment of this world; now the prince of this world will be thrown out.
But when I am lifted up from the earth I will attract everyone to me.”
(He said this to point out the kind of death he was going to die.)
34 ૩૪ એ માટે લોકોએ તેમને ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, ‘ખ્રિસ્ત સદા રહેશે, એમ અમે નિયમશાસ્ત્રમાંથી સાંભળ્યું છે; તો માણસનો દીકરો ઊંચો કરાવો જોઈએ, એમ તમે કેમ કહો છો? એ માણસનો દીકરો કોણ છે?’” (aiōn g165)
The crowd responded, “The Law tells us that the Messiah will live forever, so how can you say the Son of man must be ‘lifted up’? Who is this ‘Son of man’?” (aiōn g165)
35 ૩૫ ત્યારે ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું કે, ‘હજી થોડીવાર તમારી મધ્યે પ્રકાશ છે; જ્યાં સુધી તમને પ્રકાશ છે, ત્યાં સુધી ચાલો, રખેને અંધકાર તમારા પર આવી પડે; અને જે અંધકારમાં ચાલે છે તે જાણતો નથી કે તે પોતે ક્યાં જાય છે.
Jesus replied, “The light is here with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light so that the darkness doesn't overtake you. Those who walk in the dark don't know where they're going.
36 ૩૬ જ્યાં સુધી તમને પ્રકાશ છે, ત્યાં સુધી પ્રકાશ પર વિશ્વાસ કરો, એ માટે કે તમે અજવાળાનાં બાળકો થાઓ. એ વાતો કહીને ઈસુ ચાલ્યા ગયા, અને તેઓથી સંતાઈ રહ્યા.
Put your trust in the light while you still have it so that you can become children of light.” When Jesus had told them this, he left and hid himself from them.
37 ૩૭ ઈસુએ આટલાં બધાં ચમત્કારિક ચિહ્નો તેઓના દેખતા કર્યાં હતાં, તોપણ તેઓએ તેમના પર વિશ્વાસ કર્યો નહિ.
But despite all the miracles he had done in their presence, they still did not trust in Jesus.
38 ૩૮ એ માટે કે યશાયા પ્રબોધકનું વચન પૂરું થાય કે, ‘પ્રભુ, અમને જે કહેવામાં આવ્યું તે પર કોણે વિશ્વાસ કર્યો છે? પ્રભુનો હાથ કોની સમક્ષ પ્રગટ થયો છે?’”
This fulfilled the message of Isaiah the prophet who said, “Lord, who has believed what we told them? To whom has the Lord's power been revealed?”
They were not able to trust him, and as a result they fulfilled what Isaiah also said:
40 ૪૦ ‘તેઓ આંખોથી દેખે નહિ, મનથી સમજે નહિ, પાછા ફરે નહિ, હું તેઓને સારા કરું નહિ, એ માટે તેમણે તેઓની આંખો અંધ કરી છે. અને તેઓનાં મન કઠોર થઈ ગયા છે.’”
“He blinded their eyes, and made their minds dull, so that their eyes would not see, and their minds would not think, and they would not turn to me—for if they did I would heal them.”
Isaiah saw Jesus' glory and said this in reference to him.
42 ૪૨ તોપણ અધિકારીઓમાંના પણ ઘણાંએ તેમના પર વિશ્વાસ કર્યો; પણ રખેને ફરોશીઓ અમને સભાસ્થાનમાંથી કાઢી મૂકે, એ બીકથી તેઓએ તેમને જાહેરમાં કબૂલ કર્યા નહિ.
Even so many of the leaders did trust in him. However, they did not openly admit it because they did not want the Pharisees to expel them from the synagogue,
loving human admiration more than God's approval.
44 ૪૪ ત્યારે ઈસુએ ઊંચા અવાજે કહ્યું કે, ‘મારા પર જે વિશ્વાસ કરે છે, તે એકલો મારા પર નહિ, પણ જેમણે મને મોકલ્યો છે, તેમના પર પણ વિશ્વાસ રાખે છે.
Jesus called out, “If you trust in me you're not just trusting in me but also in the one who sent me.
When you see me, you're seeing the one who sent me.
I have come as a light shining into the world, so if you trust in me you won't remain in the dark.
47 ૪૭ જો કોઈ મારી વાતો સાંભળીને તેને પાળતો નથી, તો હું તેનો ન્યાય કરતો નથી; કેમ કે હું માનવજગતનો ન્યાય કરવા માટે નહીં, પણ માનવ જગતનો ઉદ્ધાર કરવા માટે આવ્યો છું.
I don't judge anyone who hears my words but doesn't do what I say. I came to save the world, not to judge it.
48 ૪૮ જે મારો ઇનકાર કરે છે અને મારી વાતો સ્વીકારતો નથી, તેનો ન્યાય કરનાર એક છે; જે વાત મેં કહી છે, તે જ અંતિમ દિવસે તેનો ન્યાય કરશે.
Anyone who rejects me and does not accept my words will be judged at the end-time judgment in accordance with what I have said.
49 ૪૯ કેમ કે મેં પોતાના તરફથી નથી કહ્યું, પણ મારે શું કહેવું, તથા મારે શું બોલવું, એ વિષે પિતા જેમણે મને મોકલ્યો છે તેમણે મને આજ્ઞા આપી છે.
For I'm not speaking for myself but for my Father who sent me. He is the one who instructed me what to say and how to say it.
