ઊત્પત્તિ 25

1 ૧ ઇબ્રાહિમે બીજી પત્ની સાથે લગ્ન કર્યા હતા. તેનું નામ કટૂરા હતું.

Abraham [Father of a multitude] took another wife, and her name was Keturah [Incense].

2 ૨ કટૂરાએ ઝિમ્રાન, યોકશાન, મદાન, મિદ્યાન, યિશ્બાક તથા શૂઆને જન્મ આપ્યો.

She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian [Strife], Ishbak, and Shuah.

3 ૩ શેબા તથા દેદાન એ યોકશાનના પુત્રો હતા. આશ્શૂરિમના લોકો, લટુશીમના લોકો તથા લઉમીમના લોકો દેદાનના વંશજો હતા.

Jokshan became the father of Sheba, and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.

4 ૪ એફા, એફેર, હનોખ, અબીદા તથા એલ્દાહ એ મિદ્યાનના પુત્રો હતા. એ બધા કટૂરાના વંશજો હતા.

The sons of Midian [Strife] were: Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah [Incense].

5 ૫ ઇબ્રાહિમે પોતાના વારસાની મિલકત ઇસહાકને આપી.

Abraham [Father of a multitude] gave all that he had to Isaac [Laughter],

6 ૬ પણ પોતાની ઉપપત્નીના દીકરાઓને તેણે કેટલીક ચીજવસ્તુની બક્ષિસો આપીને તેઓને પોતાની તથા પોતાના દીકરા ઇસહાક પાસેથી પૂર્વ તરફના દેશમાં મોકલી દીધા.

but to the sons of Abraham [Father of a multitude]’s concubines, Abraham [Father of a multitude] gave gifts. He sent them away from Isaac [Laughter] his son, while he yet lived, eastward, to the east country.

7 ૭ ઇબ્રાહિમે એકસો પંચોતેર વર્ષનું આયુષ્ય પૂરું કર્યું.

These are the days of the years of Abraham [Father of a multitude]’s life which he lived: one hundred seventy-five years.

8 ૮ પછી ઘણી વૃદ્ધા ઉંમરે તે મરણ પામ્યો અને તે પોતાના પૂર્વજો સાથે મળી ગયો.

Abraham [Father of a multitude] gave up his spirit, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years, and was gathered to his people.

9 ૯ તેના દીકરા ઇસહાકે તથા ઇશ્માએલે માખ્પેલાની ગુફામાં, એટલે મામરેની નજીક સોહાર હિત્તીના દીકરા એફ્રોનના ખેતરમાં, તેને દફનાવ્યો.

Isaac [Laughter] and Ishmael [Pays attention God], his sons, buried him in the cave of Machpelah [Double], in the field of Ephron [Fawn-like], the son of Zohar the Hittite [Descendant of Trembling fear], which is before Mamre [Bitter, Fatness],

10 ૧૦ હેથના દીકરાઓ પાસેથી આ ખેતર ઇબ્રાહિમે વેચાતું લીધું હતું. તેમાં ઇબ્રાહિમને તેની પત્ની સારાની કબર પાસે દફનાવવામાં આવ્યો.

the field which Abraham [Father of a multitude] purchased of the children of Heth [Trembling fear]. Abraham [Father of a multitude] was buried there with Sarah [Princess], his wife.

11 ૧૧ ઇબ્રાહિમના મરણ પછી, તેના દીકરા ઇસહાકને ઈશ્વરે આશીર્વાદ આપ્યો અને ઇસહાક બેર-લાહાય-રોઈ પાસે રહ્યો.

After the death of Abraham [Father of a multitude], God blessed Isaac [Laughter], his son. Isaac [Laughter] lived by Beer Lahai Roi [Well of the one who lives and sees].

12 ૧૨ હવે ઇબ્રાહિમનો દીકરો ઇશ્માએલ, જેને સારાની દાસી હાગાર મિસરીએ જન્મ આપ્યો હતો, તેની વંશાવળી આ પ્રમાણે છે.

Now this is the history of the generations of Ishmael [Pays attention God], Abraham [Father of a multitude]’s son, whom Hagar [Flight] the Egyptian [person from Abode of slavery], Sarah [Princess]’s servant, bore to Abraham [Father of a multitude].

13 ૧૩ ઇશ્માએલના દીકરાઓનાં નામ તેઓની પેઢીઓ પ્રમાણે આ છે: ઇશ્માએલનો પ્રથમજનિત નબાયોથ, ત્યાર પછી કેદાર, આદબએલ, મિબ્સામ,

These are the names of the sons of Ishmael [Pays attention God], by their names, according to the order of their birth: the firstborn of Ishmael [Pays attention God], Nebaioth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

14 ૧૪ મિશમા, દુમા, માસ્સા,

Mishma, Dumah, Massa,

15 ૧૫ હદાદ, તેમાં, યટુર, નાફીશ તથા કેદમા ઇશ્માએલના દીકરા હતા.

Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.

16 ૧૬ તેઓનાં ગામો તથા મુકામો પ્રમાણે તેઓનાં નામ એ હતાં; તેઓના કુળોના બાર સરદારો હતા.

These are the sons of Ishmael [Pays attention God], and these are their names, by their villages, and by their encampments: twelve princes, according to their nations.

17 ૧૭ ઇશ્માએલનું આયુષ્ય એકસો સાડત્રીસ વર્ષનું હતું. પછી તે મરણ પામ્યો અને તેના પૂર્વજોની સાથે વિલીન થઈ ગયો.

These are the years of the life of Ishmael [Pays attention God]: one hundred thirty-seven years. He gave up his spirit and died, and was gathered to his people.

18 ૧૮ હવીલાથી આશ્શૂર જતા મિસર દેશની સામેના શૂર સુધી તેઓ વસ્યા હતા. તેઓ તેમના ભાઈઓના વિરોધી હતા.

They lived from Havilah to Shur that is before Egypt [Abode of slavery], as you go toward Assyria [Level plain]. He lived opposite all his relatives.

19 ૧૯ ઇબ્રાહિમના દીકરા ઇસહાકની વંશાવળી આ છે: ઇબ્રાહિમ ઇસહાકનો પિતા હતો.

This is the history of the generations of Isaac [Laughter], Abraham [Father of a multitude]’s son. Abraham [Father of a multitude] became the father of Isaac [Laughter].

20 ૨૦ ઇસહાકે અરામી લાબાનની બહેન પાદ્દાનારામના અરામી બથુએલની દીકરી રિબકા સાથે લગ્ન કર્યાં ત્યારે તે ચાળીસ વર્ષનો હતો.

Isaac [Laughter] was forty years old when he took Rebekah [Securely bound], the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan Aram [Elevated], the sister of Laban [White] the Syrian, to be his wife.

21 ૨૧ ઇસહાકની પત્ની નિઃસંતાન હતી માટે તેણે તેને સારુ ઈશ્વરને પ્રાર્થના કરી. ઈશ્વરે તેની પ્રાર્થનાનો જવાબ આપ્યો અને તેની પત્ની રિબકા ગર્ભવતી થઈ.

Isaac [Laughter] entreated Adonai for his wife, because she was barren. Adonai was entreated by him, and Rebekah [Securely bound] his wife conceived.

22 ૨૨ તેના પેટમાં છોકરાઓ ધક્કામુક્કી કરતા હતા. એટલે તેને થયું કે, “મારી સાથે આમ કેમ બન્યું?” તે વિષે તેણે ઈશ્વરને પૃચ્છા કરી.

The children struggled together within her. She said, “If it is so, why do I live?” She went to inquire of Adonai.

23 ૨૩ ઈશ્વરે તેને કહ્યું, “તારા પેટમાં બે કુળ છે અત્યારથી જ બે પ્રજાઓ અલગ થશે. એક પ્રજા બીજી પ્રજા કરતાં બળવાન થશે અને મોટો દીકરો નાનાનો દાસ થશે.”

Adonai said to her, “Two nations are in your womb. Two peoples will be separated from your body. The one people will be stronger than the other people. The elder will serve the younger.”

24 ૨૪ જયારે તેની ગર્ભવસ્થાના દિવસો પૂરા થયા, ત્યારે તેના પેટમાં જોડિયા નર બાળકો હતા.

When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

25 ૨૫ જે પ્રથમ જન્મ્યો તેનો વર્ણ લાલ રુંવાટીવાળા વસ્ત્ર જેવો હતો. તેમણે તેનું નામ એસાવ પાડ્યું.

The first came out red all over, like a hairy garment. They named him Esau [Hairy].

26 ૨૬ ત્યાર પછી એસાવની એડી હાથમાં પકડીને તેનો ભાઈ જન્મ્યો. તેનું નામ યાકૂબ પાડવામાં આવ્યું. તેણે તેઓને જન્મ આપ્યો ત્યારે ઇસહાક સાઠ વર્ષનો હતો.

After that, his brother came out, and his hand had hold on Esau [Hairy]’s heel. He was named Jacob [Supplanter]. Isaac [Laughter] was sixty years old when she bore them.

27 ૨૭ તે છોકરાઓ મોટા થયા. એસાવ કુશળ શિકારી તથા જંગલમાં ફરનાર માણસ હતો; પણ યાકૂબ શાંત પ્રકૃતિનો હતો. તે પોતાનો સમય તંબુમાં વિતાવતો હતો.

The boys grew. Esau [Hairy] was a skillful hunter, a man of the field. Jacob [Supplanter] was a quiet man, living in tents.

28 ૨૮ હવે ઇસહાક એસાવ પર પ્રેમ રાખતો હતો કેમ કે જે પશુઓનો તે શિકાર કરતો તે ઇસહાક ખાતો હતો. પણ રિબકા યાકૂબ પર પ્રેમ રાખતી હતી.

Now Isaac [Laughter] 'ahav ·affectionately loved· Esau [Hairy], because he ate Esau’s venison. Rebekah [Securely bound] 'ahav ·affectionately loved· Jacob [Supplanter].

29 ૨૯ એક દિવસે યાકૂબે શાક રાંધ્યું હતું, ત્યારે એસાવ ખેતરમાંથી આવ્યો. તે થાકેલો હતો.

Jacob [Supplanter] boiled stew. Esau [Hairy] came in from the field, and he was famished.

30 ૩૦ એસાવે યાકૂબને કહ્યું, “પેલા લાલ શાકમાંથી મને ખાવાને આપ કેમ કે હું થાકી ગયો છું!” તે માટે તેનું નામ અદોમ કહેવાયું.

Esau [Hairy] said to Jacob [Supplanter], “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom [Red].

31 ૩૧ યાકૂબે કહ્યું, “પહેલાં તું મને તારું જ્યેષ્ઠપણું વેચાતું આપ.”

Jacob [Supplanter] said, “First, sell me your birthright.”

32 ૩૨ એસાવે કહ્યું, “જો, હું મરવાની અણી પર છું. આ વરિષ્ઠપદ મારે કશા કામમાં આવવાનું નથી.”

Esau [Hairy] said, “Behold, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?”

33 ૩૩ યાકૂબે કહ્યું, “પહેલા તું મારી આગળ સોગન લે.” એસાવે સોગન લીધા અને પોતાનું જ્યેષ્ઠપણું યાકૂબને વેચી દીધું.

Jacob [Supplanter] said, “Swear to me first.” He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Jacob [Supplanter].

34 ૩૪ યાકૂબે એસાવને રોટલી તથા મસૂરનું બનાવેલું શાક આપ્યાં. તેણે ખાધું, પીધું અને પછી તે ઊઠીને પોતાને રસ્તે ચાલ્યો ગયો. આ રીતે એસાવે પોતાની વરિષ્ઠતાને તુચ્છ ગણી.

Jacob [Supplanter] gave Esau [Hairy] bread and stew of lentils. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esau [Hairy] despised his birthright.
