1 કાળવ્રત્તાંત 19

1 ૧ આમ્મોનીઓનો રાજા નાહાશ મરણ પામ્યો. તેના પછી તેનો દીકરો ગાદીનશીન થયો.

Now it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.

2 ૨ દાઉદે કહ્યું, “હું નાહાશના દીકરા હાનૂન પર દયા રાખીશ, કેમ કે તેના પિતાએ પણ મારા પ્રત્યે ભલાઈ રાખેલી હતી.” તેથી દાઉદે તેના પિતાના મરણ સંબંધી તેને દિલાસો આપવા સારુ સંદેશાવાહકોને આમ્મોનીઓના દેશમાં મોકલ્યા.

And David said, I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

3 ૩ ત્યારે આમ્મોની સરદારોએ હાનૂનને કહ્યું, “તું શું એમ માને છે કે, તારા પિતાને માન આપવાના હેતુથી દાઉદે આ માણસોને આશ્વાસન આપવા મોકલ્યા છે? એ માણસો તો તેના જાસૂસો છે અને આ દેશને શી રીતે જીતી લેવો એની બાતમી મેળવવા આવ્યા છે.”

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters to thee? are not his servants come to thee to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?

4 ૪ તેથી હાનૂને દાઉદ રાજાના સંદેશાવાહકોનું અપમાન કર્યુ. તેઓની દાઢી અડધી મૂંડાવી નાખી, તેઓનાં વસ્ત્રો કમરથી મધ્યભાગ સુધી કાપી નાખ્યાં પછી તેણે તેઓને શરમજનક સ્થિતિમાં દાઉદ પાસે પાછા મોકલ્યા.

Therefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.

5 ૫ જ્યારે દાઉદને આ બાબતની ખબર મળી કે તેના માણસોના બૂરા હાલ કરવામાં આવ્યા છે, ત્યારે તેણે તેઓને મળવા માણસો મોકલ્યા, કારણ કે, તેઓ છોભીલા પડી ગયા હતા. દાઉદ રાજાએ તેઓને કહેવડાવ્યું કે, “તમારી દાઢી પાછી ઊગે ત્યાં સુધી યરીખોમાં રહેજો, પછી જ અહીં પાછા આવજો.

Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards are grown, and then return.

6 ૬ જ્યારે આમ્મોનીઓને ભાન થયું કે તેઓ દાઉદની નજરમાં ધિક્કારપાત્ર બન્યા છે, ત્યારે હાનૂને અને આમ્મોનીઓએ અરામ-નાહરાઈમમાંથી, માકામાંથી અને સોબાહમાંથી રથો તેમ જ ઘોડેસવારો ભાડેથી મેળવવા માટે ચોત્રીસ હજાર કિલો ચાંદી મોકલી આપી.

And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syriamaachah, and out of Zobah.

7 ૭ તેણે બત્રીસ હજાર રથો ભાડે રાખ્યા અને માકાના રાજા તથા તેના સમસ્ત સૈન્યનો પગાર ચૂકવી આપવા ગોઠવણ કરી. તેઓનાં સર્વ સૈન્યોએ મેદબા આગળ છાવણી નાખી. જે આમ્મોનીઓ પોતપોતાનાં નગરોમાંથી ભેગા થયા હતા તેઓ ત્યાં યુદ્ધ કરવાને તેઓની સાથે જોડાયાં.

So they hired thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and encamped before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.

8 ૮ દાઉદને જ્યારે આ વાતની જાણ થઈ ત્યારે તેણે યોઆબને તેના સર્વ સૈન્ય સાથે તેઓનો સામનો કરવા મોકલ્યા.

And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

9 ૯ આમ્મોનીઓ બહાર આવીને શહેરના દરવાજા આગળ યુદ્ધ કરવાને ગોઠવાઈ ગયા અને તેઓની મદદે આવેલા રાજાઓ એક બાજુ ખુલ્લાં મેદાનમાં ચાલ્યા ગયા.

And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array before the gate of the city: and the kings that had come were by themselves in the field.

10 ૧૦ જ્યારે યોઆબે જોયું કે, પોતાની સામે આગળ પાછળ બંન્ને બાજુએથી હુમલો થવાનો છે. ત્યારે તેણે ઇઝરાયલના પસંદ કરેલા લડવૈયાઓને અરામીઓની સામે ગોઠવી દીધાં.

Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose from all the best of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.

11 ૧૧ બાકીનું સૈન્ય તેણે પોતાના ભાઈ અબિશાયની સરદારી હેઠળ મૂક્યું. અને તેઓએ આમ્મોનીઓની સામે યુદ્ધ કરવાની વ્યૂહરચના કરી.

And the rest of the people he delivered to the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon.

12 ૧૨ યોઆબે તેના ભાઈને કહ્યું, “જો અરામીઓ મારા પર વિજયી થાય, તો તું આવીને મને મદદ કરજે અને જો આમ્મોનીઓ તારા પર વિજય પામે તો, હું આવીને તને મદદ કરીશ.

And he said, If the Syrians shall be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon shall be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.

13 ૧૩ હિંમતવાન થા અને બળવાન થા, આપણે ઈશ્વરનાં નગરોને માટે બહાદુરી બતાવીએ, કેમ કે યહોવાહ, પોતાના ઇરાદાની પૂર્ણતા માટે સારું કરશે.”

Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.

14 ૧૪ જ્યારે યોઆબ અને તેના સૈનિકો અરામીઓ સામે યુદ્ધ કરવા નજીક આવ્યા ત્યારે અરામીઓ તેઓની સામેથી પલાયન થઈ ગયા.

So Joab and the people that were with him drew near before the Syrians to the battle; and they fled before him.

15 ૧૫ અને આમ્મોનીઓએ જોયું કે અરામીઓ નાસી ગયા છે ત્યારે તેઓ પણ યોઆબના ભાઈ અબિશાયથી નાસીને નગરમાં પાછા ફર્યા. પછી યોઆબ પણ આમ્મોની લોકો પાસેથી પાછો યરુશાલેમ આવી પહોંચ્યો.

And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.

16 ૧૬ અરામીઓ સમજી ગયા કે પોતે ઇઝરાયલીઓથી પરાજિત થયા છે. એટલે તેમણે સંદેશાવાહકો મોકલીને નદી પારના બીજા અરામીઓને હદાદેઝેરના સેનાપતિ શોફાખની આગેવાની હેઠળ બોલાવી લીધા.

And when the Syrians saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.

17 ૧૭ આ સમાચાર મળતાં જ દાઉદે ઇઝરાયલનું આખું સૈન્ય ભેગું કર્યું અને યર્દન નદીને પાર કરી તેઓની સામે યુદ્ધની વ્યુહરચના કરી. ઇઝરાયલીઓએ અરામીઓને યુદ્ધમાં હરાવી દીધા.

And it was told to David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.

18 ૧૮ અરામીઓ ફરીથી ઇઝરાયલીઓ આગળથી નાસવા લાગ્યા. દાઉદે અરામના સાત હજાર ઘોડેસવારોને અને ચાલીસ હજાર બીજા લડવૈયાઓનો સંહાર કર્યો. અરામના સૈન્યના સેનાપતિ શોફાખને પણ તેણે મારી નાખ્યો.

But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men who fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.

19 ૧૯ જ્યારે હદાદેઝેરના સેવકોએ જોયું કે તેઓ ઇઝરાયલીઓની સામે હારી ગયા છે, ત્યારે તેઓએ દાઉદ સાથે સુલેહ કરી અને તેની સેવા કરી. તે પછી અરામીઓ આમ્મોનીઓને મદદ કરતાં બીવા લાગ્યા. તેથી અરામીઓ આમ્મોનીઓની મદદ કરવા રાજી ન હતા.

And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were smote before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.
