Πραξεις 16

1 Κατήντησε δε εις Δέρβην και Λύστραν. Και ιδού, ήτο εκεί μαθητής τις ονόματι Τιμόθεος, υιός γυναικός τινός Ιουδαίας πιστής, πατρός δε Έλληνος,

And he came also to Derbe and to Lystra: and behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewess that believed; but his father was a Greek.

2 όστις είχε καλήν μαρτυρίαν υπό των εν Λύστροις και Ικονίω αδελφών.

The same was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

3 Τούτον ηθέλησεν ο Παύλος να εξέλθη μεθ' εαυτού, και λαβών αυτόν περιέτεμε διά τους Ιουδαίους τους όντας εν τοις τόποις εκείνοις· επειδή εγνώριζον πάντες τον πατέρα αυτού ότι ήτο Έλλην.

Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews that were in those parts: for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

4 Ως δε διήρχοντο τας πόλεις, παρέδιδον εις αυτούς διαταγάς να φυλάττωσι τα δόγματα τα εγκεκριμένα υπό των αποστόλων και των πρεσβυτέρων των εν Ιερουσαλήμ.

And as they went on their way through the cities, they delivered them the decrees to keep which had been ordained of the apostles and elders that were at Jerusalem.

5 Αι μεν λοιπόν εκκλησίαι εστερεούντο εις την πίστιν και ηυξάνοντο τον αριθμόν καθ' ημέραν.

So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.

6 Διελθόντες δε την Φρυγίαν και την γην της Γαλατίας, επειδή εμποδίσθησαν υπό του Αγίου Πνεύματος να κηρύξωσι τον λόγον εν τη Ασία,

And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden of the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia;

7 ήλθον κατά την Μυσίαν και εδοκίμαζον να υπάγωσι προς την Βιθυνίαν· πλην δεν αφήκεν αυτούς το Πνεύμα.

and when they were come over against Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia; and the Spirit of Jesus suffered them not;

8 Περάσαντες δε την Μυσίαν κατέβησαν εις Τρωάδα.

and passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.

9 Και όραμα εφάνη διά νυκτός εις τον Παύλον. Ανήρ τις Μακεδών ίστατο, παρακαλών αυτόν και λέγων· Διάβα εις Μακεδονίαν και βοήθησον ημάς.

And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: There was a man of Macedonia standing, beseeching him, and saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

10 Και ως είδε το όραμα, ευθύς εζητήσαμεν να υπάγωμεν εις την Μακεδονίαν, συμπεραίνοντες ότι ο Κύριος προσκαλεί ημάς, διά να κηρύξωμεν το ευαγγέλιον προς αυτούς.

And when he had seen the vision, straightway we sought to go forth into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel unto them.

11 Αποπλεύσαντες λοιπόν από της Τρωάδος, επεράσαμεν κατ' ευθείαν εις Σαμοθράκην και την ακόλουθον ημέραν εις Νεάπολιν

Setting sail therefore from Troas, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis;

12 και εκείθεν εις Φιλίππους, ήτις είναι πρώτη πόλις του μέρους εκείνου της Μακεδονίας, αποικία Ρωμαϊκή. Και διετρίβομεν εν τη πόλει ταύτη ημέρας τινάς·

and from thence to Philippi, which is a city of Macedonia, the first of the district, a [Roman] colony: and we were in this city tarrying certain days.

13 και τη ημέρα του σαββάτου εξήλθομεν έξω της πόλεως πλησίον του ποταμού, όπου εσυνειθίζετο να γίνηται προσευχή, και καθήσαντες ελαλούμεν προς τας εκεί συνελθούσας γυναίκας.

And on the sabbath day we went forth without the gate by a river side, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down, and spake unto the women that were come together.

14 Και γυνή τις Λυδία το όνομα, πωλήτρια πορφύρας εκ πόλεως Θυατείρων, σεβομένη τον Θεόν, ήκουε, της οποίας ο Κύριος διήνοιξε την καρδίαν διά να προσέχη εις τα λαλούμενα υπό του Παύλου.

And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one that worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened to give heed unto the things which were spoken by Paul.

15 Αφού δε εβαπτίσθη αυτή και ο οίκος αυτής, παρεκάλεσε λέγουσα· Εάν με εκρίνατε ότι είμαι πιστή εις τον Κύριον, εισέλθετε εις τον οίκόν μου και μείνατε· και μας εβίασεν.

And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide [there]. And she constrained us.

16 Ενώ δε επορευόμεθα εις την προσευχήν, απήντησεν ημάς δούλη τις έχουσα πνεύμα πύθωνος, ήτις έδιδε πολύ κέρδος εις τους κυρίους αυτής μαντευομένη.

And it came to pass, as we were going to the place of prayer, that a certain maid having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by soothsaying.

17 Αύτη ακολουθήσασα τον Παύλον και ημάς έκραζε, λέγουσα· Ούτοι οι άνθρωποι είναι δούλοι του Θεού του Υψίστου, οίτινες κηρύττουσι προς ημάς οδόν σωτηρίας.

The same following after Paul and us cried out, saying, These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim unto you the way of salvation.

18 Τούτο δε έκαμνεν επί πολλάς ημέρας. Βαρυνθείς δε ο Παύλος και στραφείς, είπε προς το πνεύμα, Προστάζω σε εν τω ονόματι του Ιησού Χριστού να εξέλθης απ' αυτής. Και εξήλθε την αυτήν ώραν.

And this she did for many days. But Paul, being sore troubled, turned and said to the spirit, I charge thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out that very hour.

19 Ιδόντες δε οι κύριοι αυτής ότι εξήλθεν η ελπίς του κέρδους αυτών, πιάσαντες τον Παύλον και τον Σίλαν, έσυραν εις την αγοράν προς τους άρχοντας,

But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they laid hold on Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers,

20 και φέροντες αυτούς προς τους στρατηγούς, είπον· Ούτοι οι άνθρωποι εκταράττουσι την πόλιν ημών, Ιουδαίοι όντες,

and when they had brought them unto the magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

21 και διδάσκουσιν έθιμα, τα οποία δεν είναι εις ημάς συγκεχωρημένον να παραδεχώμεθα μηδέ να πράττωμεν, Ρωμαίοι όντες.

and set forth customs which it is not lawful for us to receive, or to observe, being Romans.

22 Και συνεφώρμησεν ο όχλος κατ' αυτών. Και οι στρατηγοί διασχίσαντες αυτών τα ιμάτια, προσέταττον να ραβδίζωσιν αυτούς,

And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent their garments off them, and commanded to beat them with rods.

23 και αφού έδωκαν εις αυτούς πολλούς ραβδισμούς, έβαλον εις φυλακήν, παραγγείλαντες τον δεσμοφύλακα να φυλάττη αυτούς ασφαλώς·

And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

24 όστις λαβών τοιαύτην παραγγελίαν, έβαλεν αυτούς εις την εσωτέραν φυλακήν και συνέκλεισε τους πόδας αυτών εις το ξύλον.

who, having received such a charge, cast them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

25 Κατά δε το μεσονύκτιον ο Παύλος και ο Σίλας προσευχόμενοι ύμνουν τον Θεόν· και ηκροάζοντο αυτούς οι δέσμιοι.

But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns unto God, and the prisoners were listening to them;

26 Και εξαίφνης έγεινε σεισμός μέγας, ώστε εσαλεύθησαν τα θεμέλια του δεσμωτηρίου, και παρευθύς ηνοίχθησαν πάσαι αι θύραι και ελύθησαν πάντων τα δεσμά.

and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison-house were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened; and every one’s bands were loosed.

27 Εξυπνήσας δε ο δεσμοφύλαξ και ιδών ανεωγμένας τας θύρας της φυλακής, έσυρε μάχαιραν και έμελλε να θανατώση εαυτόν, νομίζων ότι έφυγον οι δέσμιοι.

And the jailor, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.

28 Πλην ο Παύλος έκραξε μετά φωνής μεγάλης, λέγων· Μη πράξης μηδέν κακόν εις σεαυτόν· διότι πάντες είμεθα εδώ.

But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

29 Ζητήσας δε φώτα εισεπήδησε, και έντρομος γενόμενος έπεσεν έμπροσθεν του Παύλου και του Σίλα,

And he called for lights and sprang in, and, trembling for fear, fell down before Paul and Silas,

30 και εκβαλών αυτούς έξω, είπε· Κύριοι, τι πρέπει να κάμω διά να σωθώ;

and brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

31 Οι δε είπον· Πίστευσον εις τον Κύριον Ιησούν Χριστόν, και θέλεις σωθή, συ και ο οίκός σου.

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.

32 Και ελάλησαν προς αυτόν τον λόγον του Κυρίου και προς πάντας τους εν τη οικία αυτού.

And they spake the word of the Lord unto him, with all that were in his house.

33 Και παραλαβών αυτούς εν εκείνη τη ώρα της νυκτός, έλουσε τας πληγάς αυτών και εβαπτίσθη ευθύς αυτός και πάντες οι αυτού,

And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, immediately.

34 και αναβιβάσας αυτούς εις τον οίκον αυτού παρέθηκε τράπεζαν, και ευφράνθη πανοικί πιστεύσας εις το Θεόν.

And he brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his house, having believed in God.

35 Αφού δε έγεινεν ημέρα, έστειλαν οι στρατηγοί τους ραβδούχους, λέγοντες· Απόλυσον τους ανθρώπους εκείνους.

But when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.

36 Και ο δεσμοφύλαξ απήγγειλε τους λόγους τούτους προς τον Παύλον, λέγων ότι οι στρατηγοί έστειλαν διά να απολυθήτε· τώρα λοιπόν εξέλθετε και υπάγετε εν ειρήνη.

And the jailor reported the words to Paul, [saying], The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore come forth, and go in peace.

37 Αλλ' ο Παύλος είπε προς αυτούς· Αφού έδειραν ημάς δημοσία χωρίς να καταδικασθώμεν, ανθρώπους Ρωμαίους όντας, έβαλον εις φυλακήν· και τώρα μας εκβάλλουσι κρυφίως; ουχί βεβαίως, αλλ' αυτοί ας έλθωσι και ας μας εκβάλωσιν.

But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men that are Romans, and have cast us into prison; and do they now cast us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and bring us out.

38 Ανήγγειλαν δε προς τους στρατηγούς οι ραβδούχοι τους λόγους τούτους· και εφοβήθησαν ακούσαντες ότι είναι Ρωμαίοι,

And the serjeants reported these words unto the magistrates: and they feared when they heard that they were Romans;

39 και ελθόντες παρεκάλεσαν αυτούς, και αφού εξέβαλον, παρεκάλουν αυτούς να εξέλθωσιν εκ της πόλεως.

and they came and besought them; and when they had brought them out, they asked them to go away from the city.

40 Οι δε εξελθόντες εκ της φυλακής, υπήγον εις τον οίκον της Λυδίας, και ιδόντες τους αδελφούς, παρηγόρησαν αυτούς και ανεχώρησαν.

And they went out of the prison, and entered into [the house of] Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
