Psalm 8

1 Dem Sangmeister auf der Githith. Ein Psalm Davids. Jehovah, unser Herr, wie herrlich ist Dein Name auf der ganzen Erde, Der Du Deine Majestät hast gegeben über die Himmel.

[For the Chief Musician; on an instrument of Gath. A Psalm by David.] LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. You have put your glory upon the heavens.

2 Aus dem Munde der Kindlein und der Säuglinge hast Du Dir Stärke gegründet, um Deiner Dränger willen, daß der Feind und der Rachgierige zu Ende komme!

From the lips of children and infants you have established praise, because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.

3 Wenn Deine Himmel ich sehe, Deiner Finger Werk, Mond und Gestirne, die Du bereitet hast:

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have set in place;

4 Was ist der Mensch, daß seiner Du gedenkst? Und des Menschen Sohn, daß Du ihn heimsuchst?

what is man, that you think of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

5 Ein wenig lässest Du ihm zu einem Engel mangeln und krönest ihn mit Herrlichkeit und Ehre.

For you have made him a little lower than the angels. You have crowned him with glory and honor,

6 Du machst ihn zum Herrscher über Deiner Hände Werk, alles hast Du unter seine Füße gelegt.

and you made him ruler over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet:

7 Kleinvieh und Rinder, alle von ihnen, und auch das Vieh des Feldes.

all sheep and cattle, and also the wild animals,

8 Den Vogel der Himmel und des Meeres Fische, was der Meere Pfade durchzieht.

the birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

9 Jehovah, unser Herr, wie herrlich ist Dein Name auf der ganzen Erde.

LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.
