Epheser 4

1 So ermahne ich, der Gefangene im Herrn, euch, daß ihr möget wandeln würdig des Berufs, dazu ihr berufen seid,

I, the prisoner of the LORD, then call on you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,

2 Mit aller Demut und Sanftmut, mit Geduld, daß ihr einander in Liebe vertraget,

with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, bearing with one another in love,

3 Und euch befleißigt, zu erhalten die Einigkeit des Geistes durch das Band des Friedens.

being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace;

4 Ein Leib und ein Geist, wie ihr auch berufen seid in einerlei Hoffnung eurer Berufung;

one body and one Spirit, according as you were also called in one hope of your calling;

5 Ein Herr, ein Glaube, eine Taufe;

one Lord, one faith, one immersion,

6 Ein Gott und Vater aller, Der da ist über euch alle und durch euch alle und in euch allen.

one God and Father of all, who [is] over all, and through all, and in you all,

7 Einem jeglichen unter uns aber ist die Gnade nach dem Maß von Christus Gabe gegeben.

and to each one of you was given grace, according to the measure of the gift of Christ,

8 Darum spricht Er: Er ist aufgefahren in die Höhe und hat gefangen geführt die Gefangenen, und den Menschen Geschenke gegeben.

for this reason, it says, “Having gone up on high He led captive captivity, and gave gifts to men.”

9 Was heißt aber aufgefahren anderes, als daß Er zuvor in die untersten Teile der Erde hinabgefahren war?

And that, He went up, what is it except that He also went down first into the lower parts of the earth?

10 Er, Der hinabgefahren, ist auch aufgefahren über alle Himmel, auf daß Er alles erfüllete.

He who went down is the same who also went up far above all the heavens, that He may fill all things—

11 Und Er hat die einen zu Aposteln, andere zu Propheten, zu Evangelisten, wieder andere zu Hirten und Lehrern bestellt,

and He gave some [as] apostles, and some [as] prophets, and some [as] proclaimers of good news, and some [as] shepherds and teachers,

12 Auf daß die Heiligen für das Werk des Dienstes zur Erbauung von Christus Leib zugerichtet würden;

to the perfecting of the holy ones, for a work of ministry, for a building up of the body of the Christ,

13 Bis daß wir alle gelangen in der Einheit des Glaubens und in der Erkenntnis des Sohnes Gottes zu männlicher Reife, zum vollen Maße von Christi Leib,

until we may all come to the unity of faith and of the recognition of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to a measure of stature of the fullness of the Christ,

14 Auf daß wir nicht mehr Kinder bleiben, und von jeglichem Wind der Lehre geschaukelt und gewiegt werden durch das betrügliche Spiel der Menschen und die Arglist der Verführung,

that we may no longer be children, being tossed by waves and being carried around by every wind of the teaching, in the cunning of men, in craftiness, to the scheming of leading astray,

15 Sondern wahrhaftig seien in der Liebe und wachsen in allen Stücken an Dem, Der das Haupt ist, Christus;

and [speaking] truth in love, we may increase to Him [in] all things, who is the head—the Christ;

16 Aus Dem der ganze Leib zusammengefügt und verbunden durch alle die Gelenke der Handreichung, nach der einem jeglichen zugeteilten Wirksamkeit, das Wachstum des Leibes vollbringt, zu Seiner Erbauung in Liebe.

from whom the whole body, being fitly joined together and united, through the supply of every joint, according to the working in the measure of each single part, the increase of the body makes for the building up of itself in love.

17 So sage ich nun und ermahne im Herrn, daß ihr nicht mehr wandeln sollt wie die anderen Heiden wandeln, in der Eitelkeit ihres Sinnes,

This, then, I say, and I testify in the LORD: you are no longer to walk, as also the other nations walk, in the vanity of their mind,

18 Die verfinstert sind am Verstand, entfremdet dem Leben aus Gott wegen der in ihnen herrschenden Unwissenheit durch die Verstocktheit ihres Herzens,

being darkened in the understanding, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart,

19 Die in Stumpfsinn sich ergeben der Sinnenlust, und Gewinnsucht und allerlei Unfläterei treiben.

who, having ceased to feel, gave themselves up to the licentiousness, for the working of all uncleanness in greediness;

20 Ihr habt Christus nicht also erlernt;

and you did not so learn the Christ,

21 Wenn anders ihr Ihn gehört und von Ihm gelehrt worden seid, wie in Jesus Wahrheit ist;

if [it] so be [that] you heard Him, and were taught in Him, as truth is in Jesus;

22 Daß ihr ablegen sollt in Hinsicht eures früheren Wandels den alten Menschen, der durch trügerische Lüste sich verdarb;

concerning the former behavior you are to put off the old man, that is corrupt according to the desires of the deceit,

23 Und erneuert werdet nach Geist und Gesinnung;

and to be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

24 Und anzieht den neuen Menschen, der nach Gott geschaffen ist in Rechtschaffenheit und Heiligkeit der Wahrheit.

and to put on the new man, which, according to God, was created in righteousness and kindness of the truth.

25 Darum tut ab die Lüge, und ein jeglicher rede die Wahrheit mit seinem Nächsten, weil wir untereinander Glieder sind.

For this reason, putting away the lying, each speak truth with his neighbor, because we are members of one another;

26 Zürnet ihr, so sündigt nicht. Lasset die Sonne nicht über eurem Zorne untergehen!

be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your wrath,

27 Und gebt dem Teufel nicht Raum in euch.

neither give place to the Devil;

28 Wer gestohlen hat, der stehle nicht mehr, sondern arbeite und schaffe mit den Händen etwas Gutes, auf daß er habe mitzuteilen dem Dürftigen.

whoever is stealing let him no longer steal, but rather let him labor, working the thing that is good with the hands, that he may have to impart to him having need.

29 Laßt kein unnützes Geschwätz aus eurem Munde gehen, sondern wenn irgend etwas gut zur Erbauung und Besserung ist; auf daß es wohltätig sei dem Hörenden.

Let no corrupt word go forth out of your mouth, but what is good to the necessary building up, that it may give grace to the hearers;

30 Und betrübt nicht den Heiligen Geist Gottes, mit dem ihr versiegelt seid auf den Tag der Erlösung.

and do not make the Holy Spirit of God sorrowful, in which you were sealed to [the] day of redemption.

31 Alle Bitterkeit, Leidenschaftlichkeit und Zorn, Geschrei und Lästerung lasset ferne sein von euch, samt aller Bosheit.

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice,

32 Seid vielmehr untereinander freundlich, barmherzig, vergebt einer dem anderen, gleich wie Gott euch vergeben hat in Christus.

and become kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, according as God also forgave you in Christ.
