Apostelgeschichte 6
1 Als in diesen Tagen die Zahl der Jünger sich mehrte, entstand ein Murren unter den griechischen Juden gegen die Hebräer, daß bei der täglichen Handreichung ihre Witwen hintangesetzt würden.
And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
2 Da riefen die Zwölf die Menge der Jünger zusammen und sprachen: Es will sich nicht geziemen, daß wir das Wort Gottes hintansetzen und Tische besorgen.
Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not meet that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
3 Darum, ihr Brüder, sehet euch nach sieben Männern um, die ein gutes Gerücht unter euch haben und voll Heiligen Geistes und Weisheit sind, die wir zu diesem Behufe bestellen mögen.
Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 Wir aber wollen anhalten am Gebet und am Dienste des Wortes.
But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
5 Und die Rede gefiel der ganzen Gemeinde wohl, und sie wählten Stephanus, einen Mann voll Glaubens und Heiligen Geistes, und Philippus und Prochorus, Nikanor und Timon und Parmenas und Nikolaus, einen Proselyten aus Antiochia.
And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
6 Diese stellten sie vor die Apostel, und nachdem sie gebetet hatten, legten sie ihnen die Hände auf.
Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
7 Und das Wort Gottes nahm zu und die Zahl der Jünger mehrte sich sehr in Jerusalem, auch eine große Menge Priester nahm den Glauben an.
And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8 Stephanus aber, voll Gnade und Kraft, tat große Wunder und Zeichen unter dem Volk.
And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
9 Da standen etliche auf aus der Schule der sogenannten Libertiner, Cyrenäer und Alexandriner und derer aus Cilicien und Asien, und stritten mit Stephanus.
Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
10 Und vermochten nicht der Weisheit und dem Geist, womit er redete, zu widerstehen.
And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
11 Sie stifteten dann aber Männer auf, die vorgaben: Wir haben ihn wider Moses und Gott Lästerworte reden hören;
Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
12 Und hetzten das Volk und die Ältesten und die Schriftgelehrten auf, traten hinzu, schleppten ihn fort, und brachten ihn vor den Hohen Rat und stellten falsche Zeugen auf, die aussagten:
And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
13 Dieser Mensch hört nicht auf, wider die heilige Stätte und das Gesetz Lästerworte zu reden.
And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
14 Denn wir hörten ihn sagen: Jesus, der Nazarener da, wird diese Stätte zerstören und die Satzungen ändern, die uns Moses übergeben hat.
For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
15 Und alle, die im Rate saßen, richteten ihre Blicke auf ihn und sahen sein Angesicht, wie eines Engels Angesicht.
And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
