Apostelgeschichte 18
1 Hierauf schied Paulus von Athen und kam nach Korinth;
After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
2 Und fand allda einen Juden, mit Namen Aquila, aus Pontus gebürtig, der kurz zuvor mit seinem Weibe Priscilla aus Italien gekommen war, weil Claudius alle Juden aus Rom ausgewiesen hatte. Zu diesen ging er ein.
And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; ( because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome: ) and came unto them.
3 Und weil er gleichen Handwerks war, blieb er bei ihnen und arbeitete; denn sie waren ihres Handwerks Zeltmacher.
And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
4 Jeden Sabbath aber besprach er sich in der Synagoge mit Juden und Griechen und überzeugte sie.
And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
5 Als aber Silas und Timotheus aus Mazedonien kamen, ward Paulus im Geiste von dem Worte gedrungen, und bezeugte eifrig Jesus Christus vor den Juden.
And when Silas and Timothy were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.
6 Da sie sich ihm aber widersetzten und lästerten, schüttelte er seine Kleider aus und sprach zu ihnen: Euer Blut komme auf euer Haupt! ich bin rein. Von nun an wende ich mich zu den Heiden.
And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.
7 Und er wandte sich von dannen, und kam in das Haus eines Mannes, mit Namen Justus, der gottesfürchtig war und dessen Haus an die Synagoge stieß.
And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man’s house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.
8 Crispus aber, der Vorsteher der Synagoge, glaubte mit seinem ganzen Haus an den Herrn, und viele Korinther, die ihn hörten, wurden gläubig, und ließen sich taufen.
And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
9 Der Herr aber sprach in einem Gesicht in der Nacht zu Paulus: Fürchte dich nicht, sondern rede und schweige nicht!
Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
10 Denn Ich bin mit dir, niemand soll sich an dir vergreifen und dir ein Leid zufügen; denn Ich habe viel Volks in dieser Stadt.
For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.
11 Er blieb daselbst ein Jahr und sechs Monate und lehrte sie das Wort Gottes.
And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
12 Während aber Gallio Statthalter von Achaja war, traten die Juden sämtlich wider Paulus auf und führten ihn vor den Richterstuhl.
And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
13 Und sprachen: Dieser überredet die Leute, dem Gesetz zuwider Gott zu verehren.
Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.
14 Da wollte Paulus den Mund auftun, aber Gallio sprach zu den Juden: Wenn es ein Frevel oder ein schlechtes Bubenstück wäre, ihr Juden, so würde ich billigerweise euch anhören,
And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:
15 Nun es sich aber um Streitfragen über Lehre, Namen und euer Gesetz handelt, mögt ihr selbst zusehen. Ich will darüber nicht zu Gericht sitzen.
But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.
16 Und er trieb sie fort vom Richterstuhl.
And he drave them from the judgment seat.
17 Da ergriffen alle den Synagogenvorsteher Sosthenes, und schlugen ihn vor dem Richterstuhl, und Gallio kümmerte sich nicht darum.
Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.
18 Paulus blieb noch viele Tage dort, und nahm dann Abschied von den Brüdern, und ging zu Schiff nach Syrien, und mit ihm Priscilla und Aquila, der sich in Kenchrea das Haupt scheren ließ; denn er hatte ein Gelübde.
And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.
19 Sie fuhren an das Land nach Ephesus, und dort ließ er sie; er selbst aber ging in die Synagoge, und besprach sich mit den Juden.
And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.
20 Als sie ihn baten, länger bei ihnen zu bleiben, lehnte er es ab,
When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;
21 Und verabschiedete sich von ihnen, indem er sagte: Ich muß durchaus auf das kommende Fest in Jerusalem sein, werde aber, so Gott will, wieder zu euch kommen, und so fuhr er wieder ab von Ephesus.
But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
22 Er fuhr an das Land gen Cäsarea, ging hinauf und grüßte die Gemeinde, und begab sich sodann hinab nach Antiochia.
And when he had landed at Cæsarea, and gone up, and saluted the Assembly, he went down to Antioch.
23 Hier verweilte er einige Zeit, zog dann aus und reiste von Ort zu Ort durch das galatische Land und Phrygien, indem er überall die Jünger bestärkte.
And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
24 Es kam aber ein gewisser Jude, mit Namen Apollos, aus Alexandria gebürtig, ein beredter Mann, mächtig in der Schrift, gen Ephesus.
And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
25 Dieser war in der Lehre des Herrn unterrichtet, redete und lehrte voll Begeisterung treulich vom Herrn, wußte aber nur von der Taufe des Johannes.
This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
26 Dieser redete mit Freimut in der Synagoge. Ihn hörten Aquila und Priscilla, nahmen ihn zu sich und legten ihm noch genauer den Weg Gottes aus.
And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
27 Da er nach Achaja reisen wollte, munterten ihn die Brüder auf und schrieben den Jüngern, daß sie ihn aufnehmen sollten. Als er ankam, half er viel denen, die gläubig geworden durch die Gnade Gottes.
And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:
28 Denn er widerlegte die Juden öffentlich auf das nachdrücklichste, indem er aus der Schrift bewies, daß Jesus der Christ sei.
For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
