2 Samuel 18
1 Und David musterte das Volk, das bei ihm war, und setzte über sie Oberste der Tausende und Oberste der Hunderte.
Then Dauid numbred the people that were with him, and set ouer them captaines of thousands and captaines of hundreths.
2 Und David sandte das Volk, ein Drittel unter der Hand Joabs und ein Drittel unter der Hand Abischais, des Sohnes Zerujahs, Joabs Bruder, und ein Drittel unter der Hand Itthais, des Gathiters, und der König sprach zu dem Volk: Ich werde auch mit euch ausziehen.
And Dauid sent foorth the third part of the people vnder the hand of Ioab, and the thirde part vnder the hand of Abishai Ioabs brother the sonne of Zeruiah: and the other third part vnder the hand of Ittai the Gittite. and the King said vnto the people, I will go with you my selfe also.
3 Und das Volk sprach: Du sollst nicht ausziehen; denn wenn wir fliehen, so werden sie das Herz nicht auf uns setzen, und wenn auch die Hälfte von uns stürbe, so würden sie das Herz nicht auf uns setzen, denn du bist jetzt wie unser zehntausend, und es ist jetzt gut, daß du uns von der Stadt aus beistehen kannst.
But the people answered, Thou shalt not goe foorth: for if we flee away, they will not regarde vs, neither will they passe for vs, though halfe of vs were slaine: but thou art now worth ten thousande of vs: therefore nowe it is better that thou succour vs out of the citie.
4 Und der König sprach zu ihnen: Was gut in euren Augen ist, will ich tun. Und der König stand an die Seite des Tores, und alles Volk zog aus nach Hunderten und nach Tausenden.
Then the King said vnto them, What seemeth you best, that I will doe. So the King stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreths and by thousands.
5 Und der König gebot Joab und Abischai und Itthai und sprach: Handelt mir sachte mit dem Jungen, mit Absalom! Und alles Volk hörte, als der König allen Obersten gebot in der Sache Absaloms.
And the King commanded Ioab and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Entreate the yong man Absalom gently for my sake. and all the people heard whe the King gaue al the captaines charge concerning Absalom.
6 Und das Volk zog hinaus in das Feld, Israel entgegen, und der Streit war in dem Walde Ephraims.
So the people went out into the fielde to meete Israel, and the battell was in the wood of Ephraim:
7 Und das Volk Israels ward allda geschlagen vor den Knechten Davids, und es war allda am selbigen Tage eine große Niederlage, zwanzigtausend Mann.
Where the people of Israel were slaine before the seruants of Dauid: so there was a great slaughter that day, euen of twentie thousande.
8 Und der Streit war allda zerstreut über die Fläche des ganzen Landes, und der Wald fraß mehr vom Volk an jenem Tage, als das Schwert fraß.
For the battel was skattered ouer all the countrey: and the wood deuoured much more people that day, then did the sworde.
9 Und Absalom begegnete den Knechten Davids, und Absalom ritt auf dem Maultier und das Maultier ging hinein unter das dichte Geäst einer großen Eiche, und sein Haupt ward erfaßt in der Eiche und er schwebte zwischen Himmel und Erde, und das Maultier unter ihm lief weg.
Nowe Absalom met the seruants of Dauid, and Absalom rode vpon a mule, and the mule came vnder a great thicke oke: and his head caught holde of the oke, and he was taken vp betweene the heauen and the earth: and the mule that was vnder him went away.
10 Und das sah ein Mann und sagte es Joab an und sprach: Siehe, ich habe Absalom in der Eiche hängen sehen.
And one that sawe it, tolde Ioab, saying, Beholde, I sawe Absalom hanged in an oke.
11 Und Joab sprach zu dem Manne, der es ihm angesagt: Und siehe, du hast ihn gesehen, und warum hast du ihn nicht allda zur Erde geschlagen und an mir wäre es gewesen, dir zehn Silberlinge und einen Gürtel zu geben.
Then Ioab saide vnto the man that tolde him, And hast thou in deede seene? why then diddest thou not there smite him to the grounde, and I woulde haue giuen thee ten shekels of siluer, and a girdle?
12 Und der Mann sprach zu Joab: Und wöge ich tausend Silberlinge auf den Händen, würde ich doch nicht meine Hand wider den Sohn des Königs ausrecken; denn vor unseren Ohren hat der König dir und dem Abischai und dem Itthai geboten und gesagt: Behütet mir, wer es auch sei, den Jungen, den Absalom.
Then the man saide vnto Ioab, Though I should receiue a thousande shekels of siluer in mine hande, yet woulde I not lay mine hande vpon the Kings sonne: for in our hearing the King charged thee, and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Beware, least any touche the yong man Absalom.
13 Hätte ich eine Lüge wider seine Seele getan, so ist kein Wort dem König verhohlen, und du selbst hättest dich wider mich gestellt.
If I had done it, it had bene the danger of my life: for nothing can be hid from the King: yea, thou thy selfe wouldest haue bin against me.
14 Und Joab sprach: Ich will nicht so vor dir warten. Und er nahm drei Schäfte in seine Hand und stieß sie in das Herz Absaloms, während er noch lebte inmitten der Eiche.
Then saide Ioab, I will not thus tary with thee. And he tooke three dartes in his hande, and thrust them through Absalom, while he was yet aliue in the middes of the oke.
15 Und es umstanden ihn zehn Jungen, Joabs Waffenträger, und sie schlugen Absalom und töteten ihn.
And tenne seruants that bare Ioabs armour, compassed about and smote Absalom, and slewe him.
16 Und Joab stieß in die Posaune und das Volk kehrte zurück von der Verfolgung hinter Israel her, denn Joab hielt das Volk zurück.
Then Ioab blewe the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Ioab helde backe the people.
17 Und sie nahmen Absalom und warfen ihn im Wald in die große Grube und richteten einen sehr großen Steinhaufen über ihm auf, und ganz Israel floh, jeder Mann nach seinem Zelt.
And they tooke Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and layed a mightie great heape of stones vpon him: and all Israel fled euery one to his tent.
18 Absalom aber hatte noch bei seinem Leben eine Denksäule genommen und für sich errichtet, die im Talgrunde des Königs ist; denn er sprach: Ich habe keinen Sohn, der meinen Namen im Gedächtnis erhielte, und nannte die Denksäule nach seinem Namen. Und so heißt sie noch ´die Hand Absaloms` bis auf diesen Tag.
Nowe Absalom in his life time had taken and reared him vp a pillar, which is in the kings dale: for he saide, I haue no sonne to keepe my name in remembrance. and he called the pillar after his owne name, and it is called vnto this day, Absaloms place.
19 Und Achimaaz, Zadoks Sohn, sprach: Laß mich doch laufen und dem Könige verkünden, daß Jehovah ihm von der Hand seiner Feinde Recht verschafft.
Then said Ahimaaz the sonne of Zadok, I pray thee, let me runne, and beare the King tidings that the Lord hath deliuered him out of the hande of his enemies.
20 Und Joab sprach zu ihm: Du bist kein Mann der Kunde an diesem Tage; bringe Kunde an einem anderen Tage, aber an diesem Tage sollst du keine Kunde bringen, denn des Königs Sohn ist tot.
And Ioab said vnto him, Thou shalt not be the messenger to day, but thou shalt beare tidings another time, but to day thou shalt beare none: for the Kings sonne is dead.
21 Aber zu dem Chuschiten sprach Joab: Geh, sage dem König an, was du gesehen hast. Und der Chuschite verbeugte sich vor Joab und lief.
Then said Ioab to Cushi, Goe, tel the king, what thou hast seene. And Cushi bowed himselfe vnto Ioab, and ran.
22 Achimaaz aber, der Sohn Zadoks, fuhr fort und sprach zu Joab: Sei dem, wie ihm wolle, laß mich doch auch dem Chuschiten nachlaufen. Und Joab sprach: Für was willst du laufen, mein Sohn? Und gehst du hin, du findest keinen Botenlohn.
Then saide Ahimaaz the sonne of Zadok againe to Ioab, What, I pray thee, if I also runne after Cushi? And Ioab said, Wherefore now wilt thou runne, my sonne, seeing that thou hast no tidings to bring?
23 Sei dem, wie ihm wolle, laß mich laufen. Und er sprach zu ihm: Laufe. Und Achimaaz lief auf dem Wege der Ebene und kam an dem Chuschiten vorüber.
Yet what if I runne? Then he saide vnto him, Runne. So Ahimaaz ranne by the way of the plaine, and ouerwent Cushi.
24 David aber saß zwischen den zwei Toren, und der Wächter ging auf das Dach des Tores, auf die Mauer und erhob seine Augen und sah, und siehe, ein Mann kam allein gelaufen.
Now Dauid sate betweene the two gates. And the watchman went to the top of the gate vpon the wall, and lift vp his eyes, and sawe, and beholde, a man came running alone.
25 Und der Wächter rief und sagte es dem König an, und der König sprach: Ist er allein, so ist Kunde in seinem Munde. Und er ging daher und näherte sich.
And the watchman cryed, and tolde ye king. And the King said, If he be alone, he bringeth tidings. And he came apace, and drew neere.
26 Und der Wächter sah einen anderen Mann laufen, und der Wächter rief dem Torwart zu und sprach: Siehe, ein Mann läuft allein. Und der König sprach: Auch der bringt Kunde.
And the watchman saw another man running, and the watchman called vnto the porter, and said, Behold, another man runneth alone. And the King said, He also bringeth tidings.
27 Und der Wächter sprach: Ich sehe den Lauf des ersten wie den Lauf von Achimaaz, dem Sohne Zadoks. Und der König sprach: Der Mann ist gut und kommt mit guter Kunde.
And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the formost is like the running of Ahimaaz the sonne of Zadok. Then the King said, He is a good man, and commeth with good tidings.
28 Und Achimaaz rief und sprach zu dem Könige: Friede! und er fiel auf sein Antlitz vor dem Könige zur Erde und sprach: Gesegnet sei Jehovah, dein Gott, der die Männer, die ihre Hand wider meinen Herrn, den König, erhoben, überantwortet hat.
And Ahimaaz called, and sayde vnto the King, Peace be with thee: and he fell downe to the earth vpon his face before the King, and saide, Blessed be the Lord thy God, who hath shut vp the men that lift vp their handes against my lorde the King.
29 Und der König sprach: Ist es Frieden mit dem Jungen, mit dem Absalom? Und Achimaaz sprach: Ich sah ein großes Getümmel, da Joab des Königs Knecht und deinen Knecht sandte, und ich weiß nicht, was es war.
And the King saide, Is the yong man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Ioab sent the Kings seruant, and me thy seruant, I sawe a great tumult, but I knewe not what.
30 Und der König sprach: Komme herum und stelle dich hierher. Und er ging herum und stand da.
And the King said vnto him, Turne aside, and stand here. so he turned aside and stoode still.
31 Und siehe, der Chuschite kam und der Chuschite sprach: Mein Herr, der König, lasse sich verkündigen, daß Jehovah dir diesen Tag hat Recht verschafft von der Hand aller, die wider dich sind aufgestanden.
And beholde, Cushi came, and Cushi saide, Tidings, my lorde the King: for the Lord hath deliuered thee this day out of the hande of all that rose against thee.
32 Und der König sprach zu dem Chuschiten: Ist Frieden mit dem Jungen, mit dem Absalom? Der Chuschite aber sprach: Möge es wie mit dem Jungen sein mit den Feinden meines Herrn Königs, und allen, die wider dich aufstehen, dir Böses zu tun.
Then the King saide vnto Cushi, Is the yong man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lorde the King, and all that rise against thee to doe thee hurt, be as that yong man is.
33 Und der König zitterte und stieg hinauf auf den Söller des Tores und weinte; und so sprach er im Gehen: Mein Sohn Absalom! Mein Sohn, mein Sohn, Absalom! O, wäre ich doch an deiner Stelle gestorben, Absalom, mein Sohn, mein Sohn!
And the King was mooued, and went vp to the chamber ouer the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my sonne Absalom, my sonne, my sonne Absalom: woulde God I had dyed for thee, O Absalom, my sonne, my sonne.
