1 Timotheus 4
1 Der Geist sagt ausdrücklich, daß in späteren Zeiten etliche vom Glauben abfallen und Irrgeistern und Lehren der Teufel anhangen werden,
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Mittelst der Heuchelei von Lügenrednern, die in ihrem eigenen Gewissen gebrandmarkt sind,
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Die verbieten ehelich zu werden und gewisse Speisen zu genießen, die doch Gott geschaffen hat, daß sie mit Danksagung genossen werden von den Gläubigen und von denen, so die Wahrheit erkannt haben.
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4 Denn alles, was Gott erschaffen hat, ist gut, und nichts verwerflich, so es mit Danksagung empfangen wird;
For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5 Denn es wird geheiligt durch das Wort Gottes und Gebet.
For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
6 Wenn du den Brüdern solches vorhältst, so wirst du ein guter Diener Jesu Christi sein, auferzogen in den Worten des Glaubens und der rechten Lehre, der du gefolgt bist.
If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
7 Habe nichts zu schaffen mit ungeistlichen Altweiberfabeln, übe dich selbst aber in der Gottseligkeit.
But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
8 Die leibliche Übung ist wenig nütze, aber die Gottseligkeit ist zu allen Dingen nütze und hat die Verheißung dieses und des zukünftigen Lebens.
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
9 Dies ist gewißlich wahr, und ein teuer, wertes Wort.
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
10 Denn dafür mühen wir uns und lassen uns schmähen, daß wir auf den lebendigen Gott gehofft, Welcher ist der Heiland aller Menschen, besonders der Gläubigen.
For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
11 Solches gebiete und lehre.
These things command and teach.
12 Niemand müsse deine Jugend verachten; sondern werde ein Vorbild der Gläubigen in der Lehre, im Wandel, in der Liebe, im Geist, im Glauben, in der Keuschheit.
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Halte an mit Lesen, Ermahnen, mit Lehren, bis ich komme.
Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Laß nicht unbenützt die Gabe in dir, die dir gegeben ist, für Weissagung mit Handauflegung der Ältesten.
Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15 Dies lasse dir angelegen sein, dabei bleibe, auf daß dein Fortschritt in allen Dingen sichtbar werde.
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
16 Habe Acht auf dich selbst, und auf die Lehre! Verbleibe dabei; denn wenn du solches tust, wirst du dir selbst und denen, die dich hören, zum Heile werden.
Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
