1 Petrus 3

1 Desgleichen sollen die Weiber ihren Männern untertan sein, auf daß auch die, so noch nicht an das Wort glauben, durch der Weiber Wandel ohne Wort gewonnen werden,

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

2 Wenn sie auf euren keuschen, gottesfürchtigen Wandel sehen.

While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

3 Darum sei ihr Schmuck nicht der äußere, bestehend in Haarflechten, im Anlegen von Goldgeschmeide, oder in Gewändern,

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4 Sondern der verborgene Mensch des Herzens, in unvergänglichem Wesen, mit sanftem und stillem Geiste, der köstlich ist vor den Augen Gottes.

But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

5 Denn also haben sich vor Zeiten die heiligen Weiber geschmückt, die ihre Hoffnung auf Gott setzten und ihren Männern untertan waren,

For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

6 Wie Sarah Abraham untertan war und ihn Herr nannte, deren Töchter ihr geworden seid, so ihr wohl tut und euch vor keinem Schrecknisse fürchtet.

Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

7 Desgleichen ihr Männer, geht mit ihnen verständig um, als mit dem schwächeren Werkzeug, und beweist ihnen Ehre als Miterben der Gnade des Lebens, auf daß euer Gebet Erhörung finde.

Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

8 Seid überhaupt allesamt gleichen Sinnes, teilnehmend, brüderlich, barmherzig und wohlwollend.

Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

9 Vergeltet nicht Böses mit Bösem, nicht Scheltwort mit Scheltwort, segnet vielmehr und seid eingedenk, daß ihr dazu berufen seid, daß ihr Segen ererbet.

Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

10 Denn wer des Lebens froh sein und gute Tage sehen will, der bewahre seine Zunge vor Bösem und seine Lippen, daß sie nichts Trügliches reden.

For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

11 Er wende sich ab vom Bösen und tue Gutes, suche Frieden und jage ihm nach.

Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.

12 Denn die Augen des Herrn merken auf die Gerechten, und Seine Ohren auf ihr Gebet; das Angesicht des Herrn wendet sich wider die, so Böses tun.

For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

13 Und wer ist, der euch Übles tun könnte, so ihr dem Guten nachkommt?

And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

14 Und ob ihr auch leidet um der Gerechtigkeit willen, so seid ihr doch selig; fürchtet euch aber nicht vor dem, womit sie euch schrecken wollen, und seid unverzagt.

But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

15 Christus den Herrn aber haltet heilig in euren Herzen; seid allezeit bereit, jedem Rede zu stehen, der von euch Grund fordert für die Hoffnung, die in euch ist,

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

16 Und das mit Sanftmut und Ehrfurcht vor Gott, indem ihr ein gutes Gewissen habt, daß sie, die von euch Übles reden als von Übeltätern, darob zuschanden werden, daß sie euren guten Wandel in Christus geschmäht haben,

Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

17 Denn es ist besser, so es Gottes Wille ist, daß ihr leidet ob dem Gutestun, denn ob dem Übeltun.

For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

18 Weil auch Christus einmal für unsere Sünden gelitten hat, der Gerechte für die Ungerechten, auf daß Er uns zu Gott brächte, und ist getötet worden dem Leibe nach, und lebendig gemacht nach dem Geiste,

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

19 In welchem Er auch hingegangen ist und den Geistern im Gefängnis gepredigt hat,

By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

20 Die vordem ungläubig waren, da Gottes Langmut harrte in den Tagen Noachs, als man die Arche zurichtete, in die wenige, das heißt nur acht

Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

21 Welches nun auch euch selig macht im Gegenbild der Taufe, nicht als die Abwaschung des Unrats am Fleische, sondern als der Bund eines guten Gewissens mit Gott durch die Auferstehung Jesu Christi;

The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us ( not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, ) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

22 Der zur Rechten Gottes ist, nachdem Er in den Himmel aufgefahren, wo die Engel, Gewalten und Kräfte Ihm untertänig sind.

Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
