1 Ich will aber, daß ihr wisset, welch großen Kampf ich habe für euch und für die in Laodizea und für alle, die mich nicht von Angesicht im Fleische gesehen haben,
For I would that all of you knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
2 damit ihre Herzen ermahnt, in Liebe zusammengeschlossen und mit völliger Gewißheit bereichert werden, zur Erkenntnis des Geheimnisses Gottes, [welches ist] Christus,
That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in (agape) love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3 in dem alle Schätze der Weisheit und der Erkenntnis verborgen sind.
In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4 Das sage ich aber, damit euch niemand durch Überredungskünste zu Trugschlüssen verleite.
And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
5 Denn, wenn ich auch dem Fleische nach abwesend bin, so bin ich doch im Geiste bei euch und sehe mit Freuden eure Ordnung und die Festigkeit eures Glaubens an Christus.
For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the (pneuma) spirit, rejoicing and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.
6 Wie ihr nun Christus Jesus, den Herrn, angenommen habt, so wandelt in ihm,
As all of you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk all of you in him:
7 gewurzelt und auferbaut in ihm und befestigt im Glauben, wie ihr gelehrt worden seid, und darin überfließend in Danksagung.
Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as all of you have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Sehet zu, daß euch niemand beraube durch die Philosophie und leeren Betrug, nach der Überlieferung der Menschen, nach den Grundsätzen der Welt und nicht nach Christus.
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 Denn in ihm wohnt die ganze Fülle der Gottheit leibhaftig;
For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
10 und ihr habt alles völlig in ihm, welcher das Haupt jeder Herrschaft und Gewalt ist.
And all of you are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In ihm seid ihr auch beschnitten mit einer Beschneidung, die ohne Hände geschehen ist, durch das Ablegen des fleischlichen Leibes, in der Beschneidung Christi,
In whom also all of you are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 indem ihr mit ihm begraben seid in der Taufe, in welchem ihr auch mitauferstanden seid durch den Glauben an die Kraftwirkung Gottes, der ihn von den Toten auferweckt hat.
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also all of you are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who has raised him from the dead.
13 Auch euch, die ihr tot waret durch die Übertretungen und den unbeschnittenen Zustand eures Fleisches, hat er mit ihm lebendig gemacht, da er euch alle Übertretungen vergab,
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, has he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 dadurch, daß er die gegen uns bestehende Schuldschrift, welche durch Satzungen uns entgegen war, auslöschte und sie aus der Mitte tat, indem er sie ans Kreuz heftete.
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 Als er so die Herrschaften und Gewalten auszog, stellte er sie öffentlich an den Pranger und triumphierte über sie an demselben.
And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16 So soll euch nun niemand richten wegen Speise oder Trank, oder wegen eines Festes oder Neumonds oder Sabbats,
Let no man therefore judge you in food, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 welche Dinge doch nur ein Schatten derer sind, die kommen sollten, wovon aber Christus das Wesen hat.
Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
18 Niemand soll euch um den Kampfpreis bringen, indem er sich in Demut und Engelsdienst gefällt und sich in Sachen einläßt, die er nicht gesehen hat, ohne Grund aufgeblasen ist von seinem fleischlichen Sinn,
Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19 wobei er sich nicht an das Haupt hält, aus welchem der ganze Leib, vermittels der Gelenke und Sehnen unterstützt und zusammengehalten, zu der von Gott bestimmten Größe heranwächst.
And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increases with the increase of God.
20 Wenn ihr mit Christus den Grundsätzen der Welt abgestorben seid, was lasset ihr euch Satzungen auferlegen, als lebtet ihr noch in der Welt?
Wherefore if all of you be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are all of you subject to ordinances,
21 zum Beispiel: «Rühre das nicht an, koste jenes nicht, befasse dich nicht mit dem!»
(Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22 was alles durch den Gebrauch der Vernichtung anheimfällt.
Which all are to perish with the using; ) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
23 Es sind nur Gebote und Lehren von Menschen, haben freilich einen Schein von Weisheit in selbstgewähltem Gottesdienst und Leibeskasteiung, sind jedoch wertlos und dienen zur Befriedigung des Fleisches.
Which things have indeed a (logos) show of wisdom religious outlook, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
